~ The weekend was lazy and relaxed and absolutely perfect.

~ I've been in a mood to cook. I think it has something to do with the cooler temperatures. I've been making a different soup at least once a week. Last week I also made gumbo, and it turned out delicious. Today I whipped up some baked garlic chicken and cheesy creamed spinach, both of which were also quite tasty!

~ I'm finally almost all caught up with Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. I really love how she keeps layering her mythology so that each book is fresh and interesting. I just started Acheron. And while I'm really looking forward to reading Ash's story, it's so sad. I'm finding it difficult to read more than a few pages before I need a break to think about something happy. 728 pages with happy breaks...this may take a while.

~ Thanksgiving this year will be in Superior at my great aunt's. My great aunt has been very sick and no one really expects her to be around next year. So the entire extended clan (probably close to 70 people in all) will be getting together on Thursday. You have no idea how terrifying obnoxious loud annoying chaotic AWESOME we can be when we're all under one roof! It'll be epic! And possibly emotionally scarring. *laughs*

~ Dear Cardinals: Please remember that the point of an on-side kick is to RETAIN possession of the ball. Unimpressed, ME. In better football news, though, Matt Cassel had one hell of a day. As did Matt Ryan and the Falcons. Nicely done, Matts! \o/

~ In decidedly NO GOOD news, my neck is stiff and sore and very painful! Ouch! I think the culprit is likely all the time spent on the laptop, but I don't really see a solution for that other than just completely ignoring my work for a few days. What I could really use is a massage, but I will probably have to settle for a heating pad and some ibuprofen. *sadface*
I went to Ikea this afternoon and managed to find the perfect home office work space for under $100! \o/ Which means that tomorrow I can start organizing my life and finding my work-zen again! I am highly pleased about the prospect of having something other than moving boxes and the sofa from which to get my work done!

Also, nothing is funnier than a six year old boy loudly declaring to his parent's about their latest shopping decision, "Me and my ferret do not agree!" Grammar issues aside, it was the funniest damn thing I heard all day. And, the absence of any actual ferret aside, the borrowed expression has proved to be applicable in an unimaginable number of situations. *laughs*

To add to the hilarity of the Ikea shopping experience, there was, for reasons that still escape me, a couple ballroom dancing in the middle of the store. Yeah. I just don't even know. They seemed to have planned the dancing. You know, as opposed to just being moved in the moment to rumba! Because they had an iPod and speakers at the ready. And they had moved some chairs to clear a dancing space. And the lady was wearing sparkly, three-inch dancing shoes. And they were doing the tango!!! In the middle of Ikea!!! *laughs*

Anyway, surreal shopping experiences aside, the really important news on this Saturday is that I saw Quantum of Solace last night and it was FANTASTIC!!! I won't get into spoilery details; I'll just say that, while it didn't have the deeply resonating emotional impact that Casino Royale did for me, it was, none the less, completely emotionally satisfying. In addition to striking the right emotional chords, it was A COMPLETELY KICK ASS BOND FLICK! Incredible fight scenes, awesome car chases, and enough intrigue to spin you 'round in circles. Also, because this IS important, Daniel Craig is sex on two legs!

I also really loved the title track and I thought y'all might too: Another Way To Die by Jack White and Alicia Keyes. (ETA: New download link with the full version of the song. I have no idea what happened the first time. *facepalm*)

Now me and this bottle of wine are going to resume catching up on The Sarah Conor Chronicles, Sons of Anarchy, and maybe even some Brotherhood!!!
Good things about today:

1. Successfully completing more than 75% of my "To Do" list, with both plans and time to get that number to 90% before the day is through. I feel most productive!

2. Another kick-ass (namely, mine) workout with Trainer!Boy that included getting to beat the shit outta things in an awesome boxing session. I feel strong and fierce!

3. A yummy and healthy post-workout snack of low-fat chocolate milk. With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] editorzon for the tip! I feel satisfied!

4. Grooving to a great new music mix that perfectly fits my mood. I am remembering to breathe.

5. Learning that there is an ostensibly good New Orleans style cajun restaurant right up the street from me!!! You better believe I'll be checking out Chez Monieux this weekend! I miss New Orleans, but I'm very excited about the prospect of good gumbo!

6. These are officially my new favorite bras. I just received my last order that includes this one, this one, and this one and I love them all!

And one link of amusement: Election night hook-ups! Doin' it for Obama! *laughs* I do, however, highly approve of celebrating the electoral results with more sex! Hell, I highly approve of celebrating anything with more sex!
A few bulleted notes on the day:

  • Any Monday that starts with the freedom to sleep in is a good Monday, indeed!

  • I did manage to put a new workout mix together. Many thanks for your input -- it was helpful! Check out the new super workout playlist. )

I really like it. Unfortunately, my iPod decided to weirdly lock up right before Trainer!Boy was set to arrive, so I didn't get to workout to the new mix today.

I'm still interested in hearing what is your never fail workout music. Tell me, flist, what would you NEED to add to this playlist?

  • The workout with Trainer!Boy was all kinds of awesome. He righteously kicked my ass -- as he's paid to do. *g* And the weather today was gorgeous, so we were able to take much of the workout outside. It felt really good to work out hard, and I'm actually looking forward to the sore muscles!

  • I've decided that I don't want to practice law. (I know. This is BIG, and most certainly deserves more than a bullet point. For now, though, this will have to do.) I'm not looking to make a career change immediately, but within the next 2 to 5 years I want to transition out of the practice of law and into one of several possible related areas. More to come, as I figure it out.

  • The Nieces were over yesterday and we watched Tinker Bell. It was adorable! *is five* Finally a Disney movie that celebrates individuality and skill, with nary a prince in sight to save the day! Plus, it was pretty, and colorful, and fun!

Speaking of movies, the decidedly grown up Quantum of Solace opens on Friday and I CAN'T WAIT!!! *bounces*

  • I made Chicken Tortilla Soup for dinner and it was DELICIOUS!!! Either I was especially hungry or this was the best batch of soup I've ever made. All I know is that it was incredibly yummy! Mmmm.

  • The Cardinals really should not be losing to the 49ers. There is no excuse for this. *glares*

  • With regard to a couple of different situations, I'm reminding myself that I can only do what I can do. I feel good about my openness, my communication, my integrity, and my willingness to work toward making things right and maintaining connection. Beyond that, I have to be willing to detach from any particular outcome and be at peace with the choices that others make. I'm trying to be zen. Most of the time I'm succeeding. But, one thing I am successfully remembering to do is to BREATHE. :)
- Rahm Emanuel has accepted the position as Obama's chief-of-staff. People, Josh Lyman just got promoted! My West Wing fantasy administration is becoming a reality and I couldn't be more pleased!!!

- Speaking of President Obama (Hee! That's never going to get old!), the transition website is up at change.gov.

- I've got a pot roast in the crock pot for dinner and my house smells delicious. Yum.

- I know I just got back from vacation. But still, I'm rather excited about a four day weekend! (Since the courts are closed on Tuesday, I made sure not to schedule any meetings for Monday, giving me four days off! Excellent!)

- Jerrod Niemann is putting together a new CD. You can hear a few of the songs he's been working on over at Judge Jerrod and the Hung Jury. If anyone wants any of the songs, let me know.

- Boys are confusing.

- [livejournal.com profile] wendy shared an awesome music mix today. "Change is Now," music spliced together with bits of Obama's speeches -- I love it! I'm too lazy to re-upload myself, though, so instead I'll link you to Wendy's entry here.
I overslept today. Thankfully I didn't have to be in court this morning. But it did take far more coffee than usual to get me functional.

Also, there was apparently an uninvited guest in my bed last night. I'm fairly certain there was a spider-creature making itself at home in my bed and on my body as I have a row of about six bites across my stomach and several more on my legs. I am itchy and most displeased! :(

And to add to today's displeasure, I seem to have tweaked the left side of my back. I did nothing to logically warrant this kind of pain! Crap. It even hurts to breathe. And turning my upper body is entirely out of the question. *looks for heating pad*

Bug bites and back spasms not with standing, I have a hefty "to do" list to get through today, that includes wrapping up several work projects before my trip.

Which brings me to the happy portion of this post: TWO DAYS UNTIL NEW ORLEANS!!! Man, am I ever looking forward to this trip. Six days in New Orleans with awesome friends, great music, and as much alcohol as we can manage! Good times indeed!

Speaking of good times, it sounds as if everyone had just that at WinCon last weekend. Awesome! I hear that next year's WinCon will be in Denver. Denver! I'd love to visit Denver. I just might have to go. *nods*

What else? Oh, yes. Mongol is now out on DVD. I absolutely LOVED this movie and I can't wait until my DVD arrives so that I can watch it again!
- Congratulations to National League Champions the Philadelphia Phillies!!! *pops champagne and throws confetti* Also, I think I'm smitten with Shane Victorino. He was miked in yesterday's game and he's just adorable and funny and self-effacing and, well, ADORABLE! *g*

- OMG!!! ONE WEEK FROM TODAY WE WILL BE IN NEW ORLEANS!!!!!!! *spazzes* I have approximately two million things to do before then, including a mile-long work related "to do" list. But, I don't care because in exactly 7 days there shall be musical merry-making, drunken revelries, and all sorts of fun-filled shenanigans!!!

- Fuck you very much Senator McCain and your air quote disdain for women's health. (At this point of the debate my rage was maxed out, so I watched baseball and the adorable Shane Victorino instead.)

- I'm getting my hair cut this evening! Not a moment too soon. *studies split ends*

- Today I'm celebrating a slightly belated Love Your Body Day. What is Love Your Body Day? )

So, today I'm going to love my body exactly as it is. Today, because I love my body, I'm going to care for it by feeding it nutritional and delicious food, by being active, by giving it the rest it needs, and by treating it to loving and pampering care. Today I'm going to think and speak well about my body. Who's gonna join me in loving your bodies today? *beams*
Thing 1: It's Friday!!! Superfluous, I know. But, still, Fridays always deserve several exclamation points. Most especially Fridays before a three-day weekend!!!

Thing 2: Last night's Supernatural episode. )

Thing 3: How AWESOME was Game 1 between the Phillies and the Dodgers??? Very, I say -- very awesome! Also awesome is wrapping up my day early so that I can watch Game 2, which, by the way, the Phillies just took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Go Phillies!!! \o/

Thing 4: I found a super-cute top today for my New Orleans trip -- for only $7.50!!! Bargain!

Thing 5: Speaking of Thing 4...ONLY 13 DAYS UNTIL NEW ORLEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I can hardly wait!!!

Thing 6: Way to go Connecticut Supreme Court!!! It's always a GOOD DAY when equal rights for ALL comes out the victor!
- I'm in L.A.!
- [livejournal.com profile] coolwhipdiva's guest room is still made of awesome, as is she. *mwah*
- It's very likely that she and [livejournal.com profile] azewewish won me over to the Torchwood camp by judiciously showing me all the pretty boy kissing scenes!
- I helped Brenda get moved into New Casa Hooker yesterday - I am a master packer and bed-assembler, while [livejournal.com profile] glendaglamazon rocks the power tools! Go us! \o/
- We found excellent Mexican restaurant in her new neighborhood.
- The calabacitas at said restaurant were DELICIOUS, as were the well-earned margaritas!
- I spent a relaxing morning, chatting with J, drinking coffee, and working on a few projects.
- Now I'm off for a late lunch with [livejournal.com profile] amara_m.
- Later is what Brenda is terming an "Unpacking Party," with pizza and alcohol and time with some of my most favorite women on the planet!
I'm really supposed to be working, but I seem to have misplaced my motivation. So how 'bout some quick bullet points on the day?

  • I'm feeling good better almost human today! I think I am finally gaining the upper hand on the plague! \o/

  • Monday's aren't so bad when they start with a good amount of flirting with Mr. Hot Court Security Man. There may have been slightly unprofessional comments about his wand involved. What??? That persnickety security machine BEEPS at me every. damn. day. Which, you know, is not so bad if I get to be, ahem, wanded by Mr. Hot Court Security Man. *g*

  • I'm implementing a new policy for my law practice, and I think I need to print it on my business cards, just so that it's clear: If I have at any time fucked you, please do not be asking me to handle your divorce. Thank you for your consideration. The Management. Seriously. This comes up more often than I had ever anticipated. Three times in the past six months. WTF. o_o

  • HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!!! Everyone realizes that no one in Mexico, outside of Puebla, actually celebrates this day, right? Irrelevant historical and cultural details aside, I'm going to have dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant with the familia. There shall be yummy food and plenty of margaritas!!! Mmmmm...margaritas.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday!!!
It's supposed to be the lusty month of May, right? Yeah. Not so much with lusty, ribald, celebratory feeling 'round these parts. Whatever it is that came and took up residence in my lungs last Friday has completely kicked my ass and made me it's coughing, hacking, OMG-I-can't-breathe-and-would-really-like-to-just-DIE-now-please bitch. I managed about a half day's worth of work yesterday before I just couldn't and today I somehow dragged my ass out of bed and to court and then to the office for what amounted to almost a full day's worth of work. But then I came home and was just wiped. the. fuck. out. There was nappage and then I whipped up a yummy batch of spaghetti for dinner. And now I'm on the couch, waiting for Supernatural to start, and firmly planning on not doing anything else that requires any effort for at least the next 15 hours or so.

So, no May Poles for me. But despite the plague, there are still good things happening in my world.

First, there's the aforementioned NEW EPISODE OF SUPERNATURAL tonight!!! *bounces* I didn't bitch aloud (mostly because I was busy fending off DEATH), but I was less than enamored of last week's show. I mean. It was ok. But after waiting forever for a new episode, I was expecting a hell of a lot more than just MEH. So, tonight I'm fully expecting our show to kick ass! *nods*

Second, plague or no plague, tomorrow there shall be BASEBALL!!!!!!!! [livejournal.com profile] technosage and I have tickets to see the D-Backs take on the Mets and kick some ass of their own, as they do. OMGYAY!!! Baseball! And hotdogs! And beer! And ogling of the hotass Conor Jackson! And ALLIE!!!!!!! Good times, people. Damn good times.

Third, I've been mentally spending my tax refund and economic stimulus check all week, even though only one of them has actually graced my bank account. I'm thinking it's time I jump fully into the technological age and buy a Blackberry or some such device. Who's got one? What do you have? Do you love it? What do I need to know before buying one? Am I going to regret being forever tethered to my email or will this be the best thing ever? Advise me, oh wise ones.

I've also, possibly, got my eye on a charity auction for VIP tickets to see NIN at the Voodoo Experience in New Orleans this Fall. (OMG how awesome would that be???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) And, perhaps, I'm considering splurging on floor level tickets to see George Michael. Maybe. (Anyone want to join me? *tempts*) Obviously, there shall be NO practical investment or debt reduction or some such nonsense.

Fourth,...um. Well I really don't have a fourth. But I do have Winchester boys in five minutes. So I'm outa here! Blessed Beltane, peoples! Or Happy May Day! Or just enjoy the impending Spring! Whatever floats your boat. I wish y'all lot of sex (or at least porn!) and ribald merry makin'! *mwah*
How is it March already? Seriously. Where the hell did February go? Even with an extra day thrown in there, the month just flew by.

Anyway. March it is, I suppose. March around these parts means beautiful weather, so I can't complain too much about that. And it means Spring Training! Which in turns means that I will have [livejournal.com profile] azewewish and [livejournal.com profile] _lisalisa_ (ETA: AND [livejournal.com profile] technosage!) here next weekend for a weekend of baseball and barbecues and good friends and good times!!! \o/

This weekend, however, isn't nearly as exciting as that. There's some serious spring cleaning on the agenda for tomorrow. Today, I had my hair cut and colored. It now looks shiny and bouncy!!! After the salon I did a bit of shopping, I found some great deals on some really cute tops, bought a kick ass red bra, and spent way too much money at Sephora. Fun times! Then I took advantage of this gorgeous weather and had lunch outside -- enjoying a yummy spinach and fruit salad, while sitting outside on a nearly perfect March day is an awesome way to spend an afternoon.

Unfortunately, the awesome factor diminished significantly once I got home, just in time to hear two hoodlums kicking in a huge chunk of my back wall. I always wanted a big ass hole there so that I could enjoy the street traffic without the obstruction of a privacy wall. NOT. The jackasses ran, of course.

The only positive to this whole incident is that the officer who came to take the report was REALLY FUCKING HOT!!! Hi, hello, Officer Bair, you can come to my house any time! In uniform please, if you would be so kind.
- I made a client cry today. This is indicative of how my entire day went. Long before we hit noon I really wanted to call a do-over. I am so very glad that tomorrow is Friday.

- Let's face it, this is not L.A., and us Phoenicians are just not used to having film crews taking over our city. There's been a crew filming gods only know what in downtown all week, closing down streets, taking over parking lots. This is highly disruptive to my daily existence. They can go away any time now, kthx.

- I bought an awesome, commercial grade treadmill today. I'll be picking it up tomorrow. And then I'll have no excuse not to get up off my ass on a regular basis and do some cardio. \o/ Also, I'm "auditioning" new trainers. Trainer!Boy just doesn't have time in his schedule any more, and I've not clicked with any of the other trainers at the gym. It's also possible that my standard for trainers is completely skewed because of EPHT. *g* While I don't have any illusion that I'll get lucky enough to land a crazy hot stripper/porn star/trainer, I am hoping to find someone I can work with outside of the gym, either at home or at whatever facility they use, at least a couple of times a week. *crosses fingers*

- I turned on the television tonight and happened to catch Riley Smith's C.S.I. episode. Hi, Riley! :)

- I'm still working my way through One Tree Hill. So, color me boggled when Pete Wentz shows up on my screen half way through season 3. Cooking. And making out with Peyton. And sharing eyeliner moments with the girls. *looks askance at the screen* Why is bandom intruding on my Chad Michael Murray fannish glee???

- My mom recently bought a juicer and she's been going a little crazy juicing everything. Today she made me a pear/apple/orange/carrot/celery concoction that was unexpectedly delicious. Apparently the juice possibilities are endless.

- Down posted a new picture today from the New Orleans show. Philip is looking especially HOTASS in this one. )
- Mom's surgery went well. She's resting and, other than feeling tired, is doing all right.

- My flist is FANTABULOUS! Thank you all for all your good thoughts, prayers, and just general wonderfulness. I'm most blessed to have y'all in my life. *hugs*

- The Winchester brothers plus creepy fairy tales equals WIN! I'll try to get to an actual reaction-type post tomorrow. But, in sum, I LOVE THIS SHOW!

- Today is a very special day because today is the day that the lovely [livejournal.com profile] sabrinagb graced this world with her gorgeous smile and sweet spirit. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SABRINA!!! I'm so glad to have met you! In the short time I've known you, you've brought so much brightness and laughter and joy to my world! I hope your day was fabulous and I can't wait to deliver a huge birthday hug in person on Sunday! *smishlovehugs*

- OMG I'm so exhausted! This week has just taken everything outa me. Tomorrow morning I have to be in court for a sentencing and then I have to go see a client in jail, but as soon as I've accomplished both those things, I'm declaring this craptastic week over and starting on the weekend.

- Speaking of weekends, this weekend (Sunday, actually) I get to go to L.A., spend some quality time with the Hookers, watch some football, and enjoy some great music courtesy of Steve, Jason and several others!!! Can it be Sunday now, please?
This day has been the longest Wednesday ever. I had to get up disturbingly early in order to be at court first thing. Then I spent the rest of the day bouncing from jail to jail visiting clients. I think I hit every holding facility in the county except for two (which I get to visit on Friday). \o/

Jail visitation days just take it out of me. You have to wait forever as you jump through a million security hoops; the local sheriff doesn't believe in appropriate air conditioning for his charges even though we live in hell, so the jails are oppressively hot; and it's just depressing to spend the entire day within cement walls, talking to people who are generally hopeless, and being escorted around by staff who is almost always surly. Also, for the record, NO ONE who isn't either Jensen Ackles or Jared Padalecki looks good in inmate garb. I'm just sayin'. So, yes. A very long day. And it'll be even longer yet, as I've just now made it back to the office to tackle a couple hour's worth of paper work.

So, in an attempt to drag myself back into a good mood after a long and craptastic day, I'm making a Happy List.

The Happy. )

So, flist o'mine, what is your Happy on this Hump Day?

ETA: Pictorial assistance added for those of you unfamiliar with the hotness musical talent of Alejandro Fernandez. And also because these make me HAPPY.
