:: Darren Criss. Wet and shirtless. Those pictures have totes been my happy place all week.

:: My newest musical obsession is Jessie J. I love her voice! If you haven't yet, check her out. "Do It Like A Dude" and "Price Tag" to get you started on the Jessie J love!

Also, I'd love to know who does her make-up. She always looks AMAZING.

:: I finally scored the Naked Palette from Urban Decay!!! That damn thing has been sold out for approximately forever! But they're available right now directly from Urban Decay, so, you know, go get it!!! (It's also entirely possible that I'm the only one who is ridiculously excited about this. If so, feel free to ignore my make-up related flailing. *g*)

:: I think it's appropriate to re-flail about [livejournal.com profile] coolwhipdiva's awesome ticket mojo in scoring us VIP M&G tickets to the San Diego Glee Live! show because those things sold like hotcakes and are completely sold out before the general sale even starts tomorrow! But we have tickets!!!! *re-flail* :D

:: Speaking of awesome live music, Bruno Mars is touring this summer with Janelle Monae. (Tour dates.) Bruno Mars was absolutely fantastic live when I saw him at Martini Ranch a few months back; and I've heard nothing but amazing things about Janelle Monae's live performances. This should be one hell of a show.

:: Sunday is 1n10's Fresh Brunch!!! Good times for a good cause! There are some amazing Adam-related items up for auction (a Adam fan basket full of great stuff, a Lee Cherry framed picture signed by both Lee and Adam, a signed photo and calendar donated by Adam's mom) -- let me know if you're interested in making an on-line bid and I'll get you the info.

Yay! Fun Friday indeed! Tell me about the fun things in your Friday!

(P.S.: I waiting for news on a job. Everyone keep your fingers crossed that it's GOOD news!)
I made a big, yummy pot of chicken tortilla soup yesterday. It's one of my favorite things and for some inexplicable reason, I hadn't made it in a very long time. So I was floundering trying to remember how to do it. But I did! And it is delicious and nutritious and very low in fat and chalk full of good-for-you veggies! [livejournal.com profile] editorzon mentioned that she'd like the recipe, so I thought I'd put it here in case anyone else was interested in soup goodness (and also so that I'll be able to find it next time I forget!).

Chicken Tortilla Soup of Delicious Goodness!!! )

So, now that I'm in the cooking mood, I want to try new things! Tell me, what is your favorite or current favorite yummy thing to cook? Fill my comments with deliciousness!!! Nom nom nom!
I've basically failed at all things holiday-ish this year. I'm taking my nieces to Disneyland next week as their Christmas gift, so that meant relatively little holiday gift shopping, which meant no gift wrapping or pretty bows or shiny packages under the tree. I managed to get a tree up and decorated, but like I said, not many shiny packages to put under it. But I still haven't baked a damn cookie. I never did manage to get my holiday cards out.

But even though I haven't done all the holiday things I normally do, doesn't mean that I'm not feeling it, because I am. This year has been full of really high highs and dreadfully low lows, but, in the end, I do know that I'm incredibly blessed. I have a beautiful family who loves me unconditionally; I have the most amazing circle of friends who inspire me to be the best version of me possible; I have a wonderfully healthy body and mind; I have a whole array of interests, people, and things in this world that delight and inspire me. I have SO MUCH. And I am truly grateful for the abundance of love and laughter in my life.

All of that is to say this: I'd like to be able to share some of my abundance and in the process do something to let y'all know how much I love and appreciate you being a part of the love and laughter and delightfulness that fills my life! So, if it's your will, I'd like to know one or two (or more!) causes or organizations that you support from which I can pick one to make a small donation in your name.* I don't know how much the gift will be -- it may be $5, it may be $25, it may be more, but I do promise to give something to those causes/organizations that are most important to you. Neither can I promise that all of the donations will be made before Christmas, but I will promise that I will make a donation of some kind to your charity of choice in your name at some point in 2011. When I do, I will link you to the confirmation in your comment here. :D

Also, if you'd like to do the same, here are some of the organizations that I support:

The Trevor Project
Aunt Rita's Foundation (supports Phoenix area AIDS Services Organizations) or AIDS Project Los Angeles
Donor's Choose
Heifer International

Now it's your turn! Tell me what organizations/causes are near and dear to your heart! Help me spread the love! ♥

Whatever you celebrate this season, may your holiday be full of the gifts of love in all its forms!

* I do reserve the right to ask you to give me other options if I find I cannot support the causes/organizations you've chosen. But with my flist, I doubt this will be an issue.
[livejournal.com profile] zoniduck and I went to see Bruno Mars last night at Martini Ranch, and he was AH-MAY-ZING! Not only is he adorable and wee and has a smile that just kind makes you swoon, but he's just a phenomenal musician backed up by a whole stage full of phenomenal musicians. Seriously, these boys were jammin'. Plus, he's just completely charismatic. I was charmed. *g*

The venue was about the size of my living room and was literally packed to the rafters. Seriously, people were standing on tables and packed wall to wall. And he only played about a 60 minute set. But he completely killed it and had everyone eating out of his hand. He could have easily played another 2 hours and had everyone enthralled.

And I just loved their sound. I have his CD and I really like it, but I think I loved his sound even more live (which, really, isn't something I can say about most artists). It was just really full and layered and funky in a totally cool, make you want to sway and dance kinda way.

His set included some of my favorites from "Doo-Wops and Hooligans," like The Other Side, Count On Me, The Lazy Song, Grenade, and, of course, Just The Way You Are. And he did some of his big collabs, like Billionaire and Nothin' On You, on which he had an amazing arrangement that started all stripped down and acoustic and then built up into full tempo. I loved it! He also did this crazy-ass mash-up of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean and the Whitestipe's Seven Nation Army which my brain still tells me would never work, but which totally did!

I didn't have my camera with me, so I wasn't able to take any pictures but here are a few vids I found online of last night's show )

Bottom line, Bruno Mars killed it! He sounds even more amazing live than in the studio. If he's gonna be anywhere near you, do yourself a favor and go see him!

And, 'cause I'm feeling AMAAAAAZING just the way I am *g*, I've got goodies for y'all. (But, really, buy the album; it is solid good music all the way through.)

So, I can't be he only one who has pretty much had this on repeat all week, right?

This has SO been my happy place all week, and I can't wait to see where the show goes with this storyline tonight!

I've also been ready pretty much every Kurt/Blaine fic written, and, lucky for you, I've waded through it all to bring you the gems! (Haha, nothing like a new pairing or new fandom to bring out all the bad fic, right?!) But, no worries, all of these are FABULOUS!

Kurt/Blaine fic gems! )

Also, have some more HAPPY: Glee Cast's TEENAGE DREAM.
>> #teamfeelingood )

>> [livejournal.com profile] wendy's post of Awesome Exactly as You Are tunes!!! Lot's of fabulous, empowering music there! Go add your favorite I Am Awesome song to the list!

>> Decluttering!!! I'm cleaning out closets and corners and getting ready to sell all the extraneous stuff in my life tomorrow in a yard sale. Yay!

>> Pinkbert! )

>> Darren Criss and the Glee Cast's version of Teenage Dream!!! Happy place! *twirls* Also, [livejournal.com profile] kurt_blaine for all your Kurt/Blaine fannish needs. You're welcome. *g*

Who else is #teamfeelingood with me today? Tell me what's fabulous about your Friday! *beams*
Happy Valentines Day!!! I hope everyone had a lovely day celebrating love in all its many forms.

My day started with lovely Valentine's Day wishes from Texas Boy. I still have no idea what to make of him or us, but I'm still enjoying the hell out of the ride. *g*

Then I spent the afternoon at the park where there were wedding vows and family hugs and a gorgeous sunny day to enjoy. (My cousin, Yesenia, and her long-time boyfriend, Ben, decided to make things official. In her very romantic way of putting it, they decided to "just say the words" and asked the family there to witness it. She should get a job with Hallmark, right? *laughs*)

After that I came home and made delicious spaghetti for dinner and dark chocolate brownies for dessert! So very yummy! I also watched The Secret Life of Bees, which I enjoyed. I haven't read the book, so I have no way to know how it compares. But I thought the movie was good. Also, even as a beekeeper, Queen Latifa is beautiful!

And now I discover delightful anonymous love here. Thank you. Really. Those words, and the love behind them, made my heart swell and literally brought tears to my eyes. Seriously, I cannot adequately express how amazingly blessed I feel each day with the abundance of love and friendship that fills my world. *loves and loves*

Also, in the spirit of celebrating love in all its forms, I hereby adopt this Love Letter To My Body as my own. Dear Body: Yes, that. All of it. In Love and Gratitude, Me.

Finally, my Valentine to all of you, some random "love" tunes! Enjoy!

*blows kisses*
I wish it would either decide to rain or not, because these yo-yo changes in barometric pressure are giving me a headache that hasn't let up since yesterday. I am greatly displeased about this. Somewhat relatedly, there has simply not been enough coffee in my life today! I keep hoping coffee will take care of the headache, but so far it hasn't even managed to clear away the morning brain fog. *grumps*

Yesterday was a complete laze-fest. I did nothing but read and watch t.v. all day! Go me! \o/ I finished reading Lynn Flewelling's Tamir Trilogy and it was fantastic! I really loved the way she delved into some really interesting gender issues in this series. Fascinating.

I also watched the Pro Bowl and Larry Fitzgerald was fantastic! His smile makes me SMILE!!!

And I watched the Grammys, where Jennifer Hudson was fantastic. I don't care that she's a product of the American Idol machine; I love her! I also really loved the last-minute Justin Timberlake, Al Green and Keith Urban number and Lil Wayne's tribute to New Orleans with Robin Thicke, Allen Toussaint and Terence Blanchard. Some great performances!

Not great, IMO, was saddling Stevie Wonder with those Jonas kids. And one of them yelling out, "show me what you got, Stevie." Really? Are you kidding me, child??? I would have liked to have seen Stevie slap him across his bushy-haired head!

But since we're on the topic of music, last week [livejournal.com profile] stormcloude gave me the letter M in that I-give-you-a-letter-you-give-us-some-music meme that was going around. So here's some music brought to you by the letter M. )

In baseball news, Alex Rodriguez has apparently admitted to steroid use. The truth was definitely the prudent choice here, Mr. Rodriguez. In better baseball news, though, PITCHERS AND CATCHERS REPORT THIS WEEK!!!!!!!! There shall be another installment of "The Hot Men of MLB" later today to celebrate. *g*

So yesterday's trial didn't happen after all. After a frantic morning of last minute negotiations and motions and wrangling with a hysterical and unreasonable client, we were about to start picking a jury when the prosecutor decided that he didn't want to send a sheriff's deputy to pick up his extremely uncooperative victim and haul her to the court to testify, so instead he dismissed the charges. Sometimes the criminal justice system just spins itself in circles until until everyone on board this crazy ride is ready to throw up. *shakes head* Anyway. At least Ms. Crazypants is no longer my problem to deal with. This is definitely of the good.

Also of the good:

- I have a few things I need to get done tomorrow and then I'll consider myself on vacation until the 23rd!!!

- I've also finished all of my holiday shopping! I need to put some things together and wrap some packages, but I'm otherwise done. (I've also decided that I'm not going to stress about not having any decorations up yet. If it happens before next Wednesday, great. If not, I'm not going to worry about it.)

- I plan on doing some holiday baking tomorrow. Mmmm...cookies!!!

- On Friday I drive to California for a long weekend at Disneyland!!! I am perhaps more excited about this than my niece, Rianna. :D And, in addition to the Happiest Place on Earth, I get the added bonus of seeing most of my Hookers and catching a Steve show!!! It shall be a very good weekend!

I also have a bit of holiday cheer for y'all: Lady Antebellum's Baby, It's Cold Outside. Enjoy!
Well, not a cry exactly. More like a heartfelt request for my flist's kind assistance. *g*

My cousin's daughter, Sophia, is four years old and brilliant. She is also on the autism spectrum, so she has some specialized needs. An important part of her daily routine is music. So, for Christmas, I'm making her several mix CD's of some of her favorite music genres. I've got the jazz, classical, and Spanish-language tunes covered, but I somehow don't have as much Celtic music as I thought I did. And she loves Celtic music. No, seriously, this is her FAVORITE. She can even sing along to the Gaelic songs, even though she doesn't actually speak Gaelic! She just mimics it perfectly!

So, my cry for help heartfelt request is for Celtic music! I'll take whatever you have because somehow all mine is gone. *puppy eyes* And Sophia will love you forever and maybe even sing a song for you! *beams*
:: I bought gas today for under $2 ($1.99 a gallon, to be precise). It was very exciting!!!

:: I have tickets to see Coldplay next Wednesday, but I'm not sure whether I'm going to go. It's on the other side of the world in Glendale. Plus it's the night before Thanksgiving and I'm sure I'll have tons of stuff to do. On the other hand, it's Coldplay. I'm torn.

:: I continue to love Sons of Anarchy. This week's episode blew me away! ) This show just brings it every week, and I can't wait to see what they do with next week's season finale.

:: As for Supernatural... )In short, I'm still really enjoying season 4 and I'm going to miss the Winchester boys and Castiel, The Hotass Angel of the Lord. *clings*

:: Back in March during South by Southwest, a local music blogger recommended a new (or at least new to me) musician who she had heard play in Austin. I bookmarked his information, but it wasn't until today that I sat down to listen to his music. And I LOVED IT! His name is Ford Turrell, and he's fantastic. He's got this great smokey voice, lyrics that resonate, and just a real organic quality to his music.

Here are a few of my favorite tracks from his debut CD:
- Let You Down
- Ghost of Goodbye
- Roll Away the Stone

And, if you like what you heard, the full CD: Ford Turrell (.zip file, 65MB).

:: So. The weekend. What are y'all doing? I wanna hear all about your fabulous weekend plans!!!
I went to Ikea this afternoon and managed to find the perfect home office work space for under $100! \o/ Which means that tomorrow I can start organizing my life and finding my work-zen again! I am highly pleased about the prospect of having something other than moving boxes and the sofa from which to get my work done!

Also, nothing is funnier than a six year old boy loudly declaring to his parent's about their latest shopping decision, "Me and my ferret do not agree!" Grammar issues aside, it was the funniest damn thing I heard all day. And, the absence of any actual ferret aside, the borrowed expression has proved to be applicable in an unimaginable number of situations. *laughs*

To add to the hilarity of the Ikea shopping experience, there was, for reasons that still escape me, a couple ballroom dancing in the middle of the store. Yeah. I just don't even know. They seemed to have planned the dancing. You know, as opposed to just being moved in the moment to rumba! Because they had an iPod and speakers at the ready. And they had moved some chairs to clear a dancing space. And the lady was wearing sparkly, three-inch dancing shoes. And they were doing the tango!!! In the middle of Ikea!!! *laughs*

Anyway, surreal shopping experiences aside, the really important news on this Saturday is that I saw Quantum of Solace last night and it was FANTASTIC!!! I won't get into spoilery details; I'll just say that, while it didn't have the deeply resonating emotional impact that Casino Royale did for me, it was, none the less, completely emotionally satisfying. In addition to striking the right emotional chords, it was A COMPLETELY KICK ASS BOND FLICK! Incredible fight scenes, awesome car chases, and enough intrigue to spin you 'round in circles. Also, because this IS important, Daniel Craig is sex on two legs!

I also really loved the title track and I thought y'all might too: Another Way To Die by Jack White and Alicia Keyes. (ETA: New download link with the full version of the song. I have no idea what happened the first time. *facepalm*)

Now me and this bottle of wine are going to resume catching up on The Sarah Conor Chronicles, Sons of Anarchy, and maybe even some Brotherhood!!!

Friday!

Nov. 14th, 2008 02:05 pm
Despite this being a short work-week for me, it has seemed especially long and sluggish! I'm more than happy to see Friday roll around. I have a few more hours of work to get done, and then I'm off to see Quantum of Solace. I can't wait!!!

This weekend is going to be all about catching up with stuff around the house, trying my hand at making gumbo, and catching up with all the t.v. I'm still behind on. A low key weekend sounds perfectly wonderful to me!

I did watch Supernatural last night. (And this would be your friendly neighborhood spoiler warning.) )

And, just because, the first three songs on today's random music shuffle:

Jason Mraz (feat. Raul Midon): Keep On Hoping (Live)
Gavin Degraw: Let's Get It On
Joss Stone: Fell In Love With A Boy

I hope everyone is having a fabulous Friday!
There are protests against Proposition 8 (and similar measures in other states) planned nation-wide this Saturday, November 15. Find one near you: Join The Impact.

Speaking of Proposition 8, I was disappointed (read: annoyed and angered) at the immediate finger pointing toward the increased numbers of black and Latino voters, blaming them for the passage of Prop. 8. I was digging up facts to post my own rant about this, but [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon has already said everything I was thinking and she's helpfully linked to stats that clearly show how full of shit this argument really is. As I'm generally lazy, instead of writing out my own rant, I'll just point y'all to what she said (it's smart and right on point) and use all the time I just saved uploading music! It's a win-win!

Here you go. The first dozen songs on today's random music shuffle:

Lady Antebellum: Can't Take My Eyes Off You
Jason Manns: Breathe In Breathe Out
Steve Carlson: Be My Baby
Anna Nalick: Breathe (2AM)
Corinne Bailey Rae: Breathless
James Otto: Just Got Started Lovin' You
George Michael: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Prince: Somewhere Here On Earth
Norah Jones: I've Got To See You Again
Katie Melua: Shy Boy
Cowboy Mouth: Crazy 'Bout Ya
Neko Case: Things That Scare Me
- Ever the optimist, today I purchased tickets for the two NLDS home games. What? A two game deficit with six left to play isn't insurmountable. It can totally happen. *crosses fingers and thinks good baseball thoughts*

- Speaking of baseball, the D'backs finish up the regular season at home this weekend, so it's a BASEBALL WEEKEND for me!!! On Friday night the whole family is going to the game and on Sunday I've got tickets for my favorite super-awesome-practically-in-the-dugout seats! \o/

- This afternoon I went to take a look at the sketch that the tattoo artist came up with. OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!! It's so much cooler than I could have ever imagined. I have my appointment for Thursday evening. Exciting! *bounces*

- Some music for you, just because:

Christian Kane's new song, which will be on his CD whenever the hell that comes out: Whiskey In Mind

David Cook's new single, scheduled to be released later this month: Light On

- ETA: Ok, so, Heroes. As I was already DVRing The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I had to choose between watching Heroes or the D'backs game. Unsurprisingly, I'm sure, I chose baseball. *g* So, who watched it? What did you think? Should I even bother? (I absolutely HATED season 2, so it has to have improved DRAMATICALLY for me to even give a damn.)

Lady A

Sep. 12th, 2008 11:48 am
While it was an absolute NIGHTMARE getting to the show (I got lost TWICE and got caught in the worst dust storm to pass through the Valley in years -- I literally could NOT see more than two feet in front of the car!), the Lady Antebellum show last night was great! It was a small venue, but the crowd was really into the music, the energy was great, and Lady A just rocked the hell outa' it! I really love the trio's sound -- definitely country but with a good dose of rock mixed in, well-penned lyrics and amazing harmonies.

Lady Antebellum (Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood):

A few more pics of Lady A. )

And because I'm all for spreading the Lady A love, here are a few of my favorites from their debut album:

Love Don't Live Here Anymore
Lookin' For A Good Time
All We'd Ever Need

My cousin Yesenia went with me, it was my birthday present to her. She had a great time too and I really enjoyed being able to spend some time with her, so it was totally worth the nightmare trip out to the wilds of Queen Creek!
