World Cup: What the hell is that annoying buzzing noise??? I drives me insane! No, like, really, I will go on a murderous rampage if I have to continue listening to that brain piercing droning. So, unless I want to cut my soccer fannishness short only 2 days into World Cup play, I think I'll have to start making prodigious use of the mute button. But in less grumptastic World Cup musings, dear gods, Tim Howard, thank you for gracing my television screen with your unbelievable hotness today. You can definitely stay. *g*

Reading: I'm reading Josh Lanyon's "The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks." I continue to love his characters like Dean loves pie! They are quirky and insightful and smart and interesting and flawed and just completely CHARMING!

Feathers: In addition to several gorgeous feather necklaces and hair accessories, made by the lovely and talented Chantala, I now also have a completely fabulous blue and black feather boa! *laughs* It is both awesome and ridiculous! I now need someplace equally awesome and ridiculous to wear said feather boa!

Workout: My trainer kicked my ass today and I'll probably be terribly sore tomorrow, but for now I just feel the good kinda tired.

That about covers my Saturday. It's been relaxing and lovely. Just as Saturdays should be.
I cancelled the trip to L.A. this weekend. While I have my voice back, or at least a gruffer version of my voice back, the hacking cough and burning lungs are still pretty much making me miserable. Traveling was just going to take energy I did not have. So, I'm staying home and working on the whole getting better thing. I'm bummed that I won't get to see my girls, but I refuse to start the long weekend with a pity party.

*sparkling harder*

:: I have tons of new books to read, including Lynn Flewelling's latest Nightrunner book, The White Road. Spending the weekend with Alec and Seregil is not a bad thing at all!

:: Today was Rianna's last day of first grade (holy smokes she's growing up so fast!). They got to wear anything they wanted to school for their last day. Rianna chose to wear a sparkly dress AND a feather boa!!! *loves*

:: I have fresh pineapple to eat later and I'm on the hunt for the perfect watermelon this weekend! Yummy summer fruit!

:: Since I was already planning on leaving work early today I came home anyway and I think I'm going to indulge in an afternoon nap!

:: I have NO plans for the weekend! The next three days are a blank canvass that I can fill any way I want to. *revels in the possibilities*

What are your plans for the holiday weekend? *curious*
:: I watched For Love of the Game last night (LATE last night), while I was doing my last minute trial prep. I love that movie so much!!! No matter how many times I watch it, I still WEEP through the last third of the show! It just so perfectly captures everything I love about baseball. *sigh* So good. And it's apparently cathartic as well, because I felt far less stressed after my movie-induced cry.

:: Today wasn't quite the train wreck I was expecting it to be. But the best news of all is that my only two weeks, only two weeks... mantra will soon be only one week, only one week.... Yay!!!

:: My D'backs are off to a really rough start. They've managed to win only one out of three in their first three series at home. They're in San Fransisco tomorrow night and I'm really hoping the change of scenery will do them good. Please do not be breaking my heart this season, boys!

:: In significantly more awesome baseball news, Orlando Hudson hit for the cycle! Ian Kinsler did too! AND went 6 for 6!!! That's some phenomenal baseball!!!

:: I'm reading Hood and so far I'm really liking it!

:: New Bones tonight!!! I've really started to love this show! I may have to do some catch-up watching of past seasons this summer.

:: I get [livejournal.com profile] editorzon on Sunday!!! There shall be drinking, and talking, and laughing, and all manner of shenanigans! Good times!
[livejournal.com profile] wendy sent me some surprise!happy day thoughts this morning, and I think they worked, because today turned out much more pleasant than I was expecting. The craptastic morning in court that I was anticipating was certainly busy but went much smoother than I had thought it would.

Then I indulged in a MUCH needed nap this afternoon, and I felt about 200% less crabby after ward. Yay for sleep! Plus, my back which has been a ball of painful spasms all week, has felt really good today. Yay for painlessness!

I also received a whole bunch of books that I recently ordered from Amazon, including the first two books of the King Raven Trilogy. New books make me happy!!! \o/

I spent the afternoon getting quite a bit of work done, while I enjoyed the free MLB Extra Innings baseball coverage that's gracing my t.v. this week. I got to watch the Rangers take the Indians, and there was just SO MUCH PRETTY involved in that baseball game! Ian Kinsler was on fire, man. And, Grady mustered the power of the dimples for a very nice two run homer in the 3rd. Josh was HOT as only Josh can be. And, while Salty wasn't playing, he was lookin' mighty fine just sitting in the dugout! *g* And, proving why I could never buy the Extra Innings subscription and still expect to have any sort of life that wasn't watching baseball, I also watched the Padres pull off a nice win over the Dodgers. *laughs* Man, if I had all this baseball on my screen all the time, I'd never get anything done!

Speaking of baseball, as we do 'round these parts, I'm taking Rianna to her first game of the season tomorrow night. It'll be a family night at the ballpark, with me, my brother, my mom, Rianna and even Rhyan, who is sure to terrorize anyone sitting near us! *laughs*

And since there will be more baseball tomorrow, I thought I should post my pictures from the Home Opener )

Happy List

Feb. 24th, 2009 04:34 pm
I've been stressed out and in a piss-poor mood for days now, and, quite frankly, I'm tired of my own bullshit. So, as I do, I'm making me a happy list!

:: It is most good to be back on relatively solid financial ground again. Also, as part of my plan to sustain that state, I've finally finished updating my resume! Bring on the awesome job opportunities! *hopes*

:: Spring training games start tomorrow!!! Baseball!!!! *twirls* Which means that I'll have [livejournal.com profile] _lisalisa_ and [livejournal.com profile] azewewish here for a whole fun-filled baseball weekend in less than 2 weeks!!! Yay!

:: I've been reading Kushiel's Scion. It has been several years since I read the first three books of the Kushiel's Legacy series, and while it took me a little while to sink back into it, I'm really enjoying the book and being back in this world again, and I'm especially enjoying seeing it all fresh through Imriel's narration. I only wish I didn't have buckets of work to do so that I could spend all day reading.

:: In fannish related happiness, tonight is the season finale of Leverage. That show is pure JOY! Also, it seems that Supernatural has gotten the go-ahead for a fifth season!!! More Winchester boys! This too is pure JOY!!!

:: I made red beans and rice and blackened chicken for dinner last night and it was DELICIOUS!!! I'm really enjoying cooking more and eating out less. I like bringing a meal together, trying new recipes, or, even better, creating new recipes. Cooking is FUN! But today I'm stumped. I've got chicken defrosting and I have NO idea what to do with it. Help me flist! What shall I do with my chicken?
I wish it would either decide to rain or not, because these yo-yo changes in barometric pressure are giving me a headache that hasn't let up since yesterday. I am greatly displeased about this. Somewhat relatedly, there has simply not been enough coffee in my life today! I keep hoping coffee will take care of the headache, but so far it hasn't even managed to clear away the morning brain fog. *grumps*

Yesterday was a complete laze-fest. I did nothing but read and watch t.v. all day! Go me! \o/ I finished reading Lynn Flewelling's Tamir Trilogy and it was fantastic! I really loved the way she delved into some really interesting gender issues in this series. Fascinating.

I also watched the Pro Bowl and Larry Fitzgerald was fantastic! His smile makes me SMILE!!!

And I watched the Grammys, where Jennifer Hudson was fantastic. I don't care that she's a product of the American Idol machine; I love her! I also really loved the last-minute Justin Timberlake, Al Green and Keith Urban number and Lil Wayne's tribute to New Orleans with Robin Thicke, Allen Toussaint and Terence Blanchard. Some great performances!

Not great, IMO, was saddling Stevie Wonder with those Jonas kids. And one of them yelling out, "show me what you got, Stevie." Really? Are you kidding me, child??? I would have liked to have seen Stevie slap him across his bushy-haired head!

But since we're on the topic of music, last week [livejournal.com profile] stormcloude gave me the letter M in that I-give-you-a-letter-you-give-us-some-music meme that was going around. So here's some music brought to you by the letter M. )

In baseball news, Alex Rodriguez has apparently admitted to steroid use. The truth was definitely the prudent choice here, Mr. Rodriguez. In better baseball news, though, PITCHERS AND CATCHERS REPORT THIS WEEK!!!!!!!! There shall be another installment of "The Hot Men of MLB" later today to celebrate. *g*
:: I thought this idea was pretty cool. (It's called The Mayfly Project and it's a challenge to sum up the year just past in exactly 24 words.) Brevity, it turns out, is challenging. But, here it is; 2008 in 24 words:

Rianna five; Rhyan born. New Orleans!!! Great friends – Good times! BASEBALL!!! Work dissatisfaction. Lots of travel. More sex! Connections made; relationships ended. Obama! Zestful.

:: NFL playoffs start tomorrow!!! I'm ridiculously excited about going to my first NFL game! *bounces* Speaking of football related awesomeness, there are some great icons of this year's playoff teams here.

:: I try and almost always fail at keeping track of the books I read each year. Which is why I was very excited to discover Goodreads. This site may be yesterday's news to the rest of the world, but it's shiny and new to me! I'm not sure if I'm actually going to invest the time to input my entire library, but what I would like to do with it this year is use it to track what I read and to get reading recommendations from others. So, if you're on Goodreads and would be willing to share what you're reading, friend me! *beams*
In an effort to continue doing my part to contaminate my flist with happiness, I bring you today's Happy List! *beams*

1. I didn't have any court hearings today, which meant I got to sleep in to the entirely decadent hour of 8 a.m. It was luscious!

2. Leverage continues to be made of awesome! I wasn't sure whether the awesomeness would be sustainable beyond the pilot episode, but last night's show did not disappoint. It's caper-ific! With awesomely snarky characters, witty banter, interesting storylines, and plenty o' eye candy! I approve!!!

3. Speaking of happeh-makin' t.v. shows, I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I recorded, watched, and enjoyed all three episodes of TNT's The Librarian series. *facepalm* I know! I don't even have an excuse for this. Noah Wyle has never done anything for me. But for some reason I found these shows to be charming! Completely RIDICULOUS, but charming none the less.

4. I have a "To Do" list approximately 3 miles long (which is NOT the happy part). But I have been making impressive progress on it which is definitely happeh-making! I feel accomplished!

5. When I'm not tearing through my To Do list, I'm reading Nora Roberts' "The Pagan Stone," the third book in her Sign of Seven Trilogy and I'm enjoying it immensely!
- Court this morning was brutal. On the upside, however, Mr. Super Hot Security Guard was back on the job today. I don't know where he's been for the past month, but I was glad to have the eye candy back!

- I finally got around to reading Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight." I'm almost done and while I've found it marginally entertaining, my overall opinion is one of ambivalence. Am I missing something? Does the series get dramatically better? Are there particularly amazing actors lined up to play these characters? Why all the frenzy over the books and the movie? Someone clue me in!

- I'll be heading to L.A. in a few hours! Yay! Hookers!!! Birthday celebrations!!! Baseball!!! Wanted!!! George Michael!!! GOOD TIMES!!! Speaking of both George Michael and birthday celebrations, today is his 45th birthday. Happy Birthday, George!!!
