hodgepodge

Jul. 6th, 2010 03:21 pm
I had a lovely holiday weekend. I drove down to Tucson for the 4th and spent the day splashing around in the pool, eating yummy food, and drinking delicious adult beverages with the familia. I also got a much needed hair cut from my cousin, who set up the back porch as an outdoor salon and styled and cut just about everyone's hair, all while wearing a bikini and high heels. She has an excellent rack so I think that this would make for a very lucrative business idea! Hell, I'm her cousin and so not interested in her rack in any prurient sense, and still tipped her well for the value added service. *g*

I was offline all weekend, so I'm probably behind on everyone and everything. If something terribly exciting and/or important happened in your life in the past five days, please do let me know.

Otherwise, it's occurred to me that there are a variety of assorted things that I've yet to ramble about here, so I think I'll do that now.

:: Last Thursday the D'backs (finally!) fired A.J. Hinch as Manager and GM Josh Byrnes. If you've not picked up on my deep and abiding hatred for A.J. you've just not been paying attention. I literally let out a whoop of joy when I got the text about the firings. A.J. should never have been managing a major league team and we shouldn't be keeping around a GM who thought that hiring him was a good idea. So, yeah, I'm pretty damn happy that they're both gone. I think Kurt Gibson was the right choice for interim manager and I'm curious to see what the franchise decides to do going forward. No matter what they do, I don't think it's possible to make a worse choice than A.J. Of course, getting rid of the faux-manager and the idiot GM in no way is going to solve all of this team's problems. Let's face it, we're a fucking mess. But it's certainly a good start, and I'm glad to see the D'backs ownership finally make that move.

:: I'm not sure what it is with me and technology lately, but the Electronic Gods seem to be angry with me. First it was my laptop that had a complete meltdown. Almost $200 and two weeks later, and it's finally back and in working order. Then today I discover that my iPod has apparently suffered some type of stroke. It's still playing, but my screen is completely out and the menu function doesn't work; so I can only play what I was playing when it was last working properly. Now y'all know that I love Adam Lambert like WHOA, but I'm thinking that at some point soon I'll want to listen to something else. I found a used, but functional iPod on eBay at a relatively cheap price that I'm hoping will hold me over until I potentially get an iPhone next year. But, seriously, what do I need to do to get back in the Electronic Gods' good favor again???

Speaking of electronic gadgets, though, I did order that Flip video camera and it should be arriving this week -- here's hoping it's resistant to this electronics curse I'm suffering under.

:: I got caught up on Friday Night Lights yesterday, and, really, I don't think it's possible for me to love this show any more. Coach Taylor continues to be one of my favorite male characters on t.v. right now. Also, Coach Taylor soaking wet on the sidelines is a beautiful thing! And the Riggins brothers continue to be well intentioned but incredibly stupid and I don't know what it says about me that I obviously have a soft spot for that kind of thing! And I want to be Mrs. T when I grow up. Seriously, she's just awesome in every way. And I'm really liking the diversity in the new characters and I'm enjoying the layers that are slowly being added to these new faces. In short, I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

:: Another show that I'm really diggin' is Drop Dead Diva. It's pure fluff, but it's enjoyable fluff. And I love that the main character is plus size, and yet the show isn't treating her or her story lines as if "plus size" is the only or even the main defining characteristic.

:: IN FOUR DAYS I WILL BE GETTING MY GLAM NATION ON!!!!! Louisville this weekend! So exciting!!! *throws glitter*
First of all, why are they so damn short??? You'd think we would have evolved to a regular three-day weekend now. Someone should really get on that.

Anyway, the weekend was full of sports craziness. Like Edwin Jackson's bizarre no-hitter on Friday -- he pitched like utter crap for the first 4 innings, walked 8, and threw almost 150 pitches, and still managed a no-hitter. Against the Rays! Craziness! Insane pitching year aside, it WAS good to finally win a road series. Jeez, D'backs, we might want to try to do this a little more often. Just a thought.

And then there was the horrible World Cup ref-ing. I'm not sure if the bad calls were dispositive, as both England and Mexico didn't really play to win. But, damn, if I can tell they're bad calls -- and I admittedly don't know much more about the game other than the very basics and "oh, pretty boys!" -- then you know it's pretty damn bad officiating. *shakes head* I did enjoy teasing my mom about her crush on Maradona, though. I don't get it, but she obviously had a thing for short Latin me with a tendency toward dramatics and abuse of the Tres Flores hair products. *laughs*

Since I didn't have a computer this weekend, I read (Nora Roberts' "Black Hills") and managed to watch some of the t.v. languishing on my DVR. I got caught up with the Leverage premier, but I didn't watch last night's episode. Hardison is still my favorite geek on TV! *loves* I watched a few of the Supernatural season 5 episodes that I have to watch. I'm still nowhere near done with the season, so I'm still reserving both judgment and discussion. I still need to catch up with Friday Night Lights and Drop Dead Diva, but at least I made a small dent in my unwatched t.v. cache. *g*

Speaking of my laptop, though, my Computer Guy says he should have it back to me by tomorrow. *crosses fingers* I'm still leaning heavily toward a Mac, but I'd really prefer to put that purchase off until next year, so hopefully my laptop still has a little of life left in it.

But, what I am considering buying sooner rather than later is a Flip video cam. Does anyone have one? Since I have The Nieces living with me right now, I think it would be fun to have an easy video recorder to capture their antics. Plus, I'm thinking it would be good to have for all the traveling/concert-going I'll be doing this summer. Thoughts on the Flip?

So here's some of what I've been doing with all this daylight:

1. Being ridiculously entertained by Ninja!Chris: )
He is freakin' ADORABLE!!!

2. Also being all kinds of impressed with Matthew Morrison's soccer skilz! )

3. Enjoying the pretty boys hugging!!!

Photobucket

I'm not posting the gifs from last week's concerts because they fuck up my page, but let me just say that the fanservice in this fandom is EPIC! Thank you, Adam and Tommy, for your touchy-feely awesomeness!!!

4. Being a little annoyed that I missed the Leverage season premier last night. My DVR was only set up to record one hour, so I missed the first half. Does anyone know when/if they'll be re-airing it?

5. Looking forward to tonight's D'backs/Yankees baseball game!!!

What are y'all doing with the longest day of the year?
1. Cramps suck the joy right out of my day. DNW. And there is apparently not enough ibuprofen in the world to make them go away today. Owie!

2. NOOOOO!!!! The D'backs traded Conor Jackson to the A's for a RHP that, unless he's the second coming of Christ, is not going to have enough miracle in him to fix the complete clusterfuck that is our bullpen. My annoyance with our front office knows no bounds right now. *glares* Mostly though, I'M GONNA MISS CONNOR'S PRETTY FAAAAACE!!! *sadface*

3. Adam Lambert is coming to my neighborhood!!!!! Almost quite literally. He's playing the Marquee Theater in Tempe on August 1st. You damn well better know that I'll be there. *g* It's a GA show, and if [livejournal.com profile] azewewish and I can elbow are way to within a few feet of the stage for a Down show, Glamberts stand no chance against me! *evil cackle* 5 cities, 7 Glam Nation shows, plus Gaga. July is going to be the best month ever! Or, you know, it will completely kill me. Either way, I cannot wait!

4. If you haven't seen Adam's music video for 'If I Had You,' GO NOW! Makes me wanna dance under the moon! What? Just me? Sorry for your life if you've never done this!!! *g*

5. How to silence the annoying buzzing noise so you can watch the World Cup without wanting to kill someone. I've not tried this yet and it looks a good deal more complicated than the mute button, but it might be worth the trouble in order to get commentary to a sport I only really watch for the hot guys. *g*

6. I did an upper body workout yesterday and today I can barely lift my pen. I may have overdone it. :(

7. There's apparently race!fail in SPN fandom again. I don't know many of the details, but it has me thinking about how characters of color are written in general that I'll probably put up in a separate post later because I'd love to have a discussion with all the smart people, and particularly all the smart writers, on my flist about it. But, if you have thoughts on or links to the current kerfluffle, I welcome the edumacation!

ETA: A few more things:
8. Adam has announced a show in New Orleans!!!!! September 12! GLAM NATION IN NOLA!!!! Fuck yeah! I haven't been to New Orleans since October before last, so this definitely calls for at least a long weekend of shenanigans in that most awesome of cities! Who's with me???

9. Goddamn Matthew Morrison. *bites lip*

(More of that gorgeous photo shoot here.)
Dear D'backs: You're freakin' KILLING me! Please to be getting your shit together. Until such time as you do, I'm afraid I can no longer speak to you.

Dear Facebook: I can't decide if your insistence on connecting me with old high school friends makes me feel really old or makes me feel really good because they all look really old. Seriously, some of them look as if they've dragged their way through the last 20 years ON THEIR FACE! Since I get to decide, I think I shall choose the later. *preens* In any case, thanks for the amusement!

Dear Glee: You are AWESOME!!! That is all.

Dear Glam Nation Tour: I LOVE YOU!!! You're rumored to be some sort of "turn of century New Orleans meets classic rock" that "starts w/ seduction, journeys into the unknown then heartbreak, honesty and ends w/ celebration, joy, love." I have NO idea what the hell that means! *g* But I can't wait to rock out with your awesome, glittery, glamtastic goodness!*

Dear Glam Nation Tour Organizers: Where the hell is my L.A. date, fuckers??? And while we're at it, give me Phoenix and New Orleans too! I have to plan my LIFE around this tour, dammit!

* For those of you playing along at home, the current tally is 4 Glam Nation stops: Denver, Costa Mesa (twice) and San Diego. (!!!!!!) I am still considering Louisville. And, goddammit, I need dates for L.A., Phoenix, and New Orleans! And, yes, I will be self-surrendering to glam rehab at the end of the summer. *g*
Man, it's gorgeous outside. I wish I could drag my stacks of files outside to enjoy the sunshine. I should take advantage of the beautiful weather while it lasts, because it won't be long now before I'm complaining about Arizona's hellish summer heat. Sadly I'm stuck in my office looking at the lovely day happening outside my window.

But even though I can't play in it, the sunshiney awesomeness happening outside has me in a great mood! Or maybe that's the coffee I had this morning in an otherwise coffee-less couple of weeks? In any event, I AM HAPPY! And, because I'm awesome like that, I'm gonna share my happy mood with y'all. *beams*

Happy Thing The First: Strawberries! Yummy ripe strawberries! I've got a whole little basket full of them to munch on throughout the day and they taste like the sunshine outside my window. Delish!

Happy Thing The Second: Shoes! Shiny new shoes! I just got these and I love them! I also got two other pairs for work that are quite lovely. But, OMG, I love that first pair so much!

Happy Thing The Third: Baseball! Well, specifically, Chris Snyder!!! I'm not talking to my D'backs until they crawl their way back over .500, but my bb Chris is another story. He's smokin' hot with his bat right now (3-run HR yesterday!) and I'm so incredibly proud of him. And, seriously, if they start talking about trading him again, I will NOT be responsible for my actions. But we're talking happy, so, CHRIS!!! *loves*

Happy Thing The Fourth: Awesome music happenings! While I'm still more than a little frustrated that they haven't announced Adam's full tour schedule, tickets for his second OC show go on pre-sale tomorrow. And more Adam is always a good thing! Also, in case anyone missed the memo, Adam is cute. Just ask Rhyan who crawled next to me last night and demanded to watch Adam videos and then informed me that "A-lam is cute!" *g* Even though she's just two, she certainly knows her cute.

A-lam IS cute! )

Yup, definitely cute. Or, you know, FUCKING GORGEOUS! But if the two year old comes out with "A-lam is fucking gorgeous!" her parents may not be happy with me. So, we'll just stick with "A-lam is cute." *g*

Speaking of the pretty, dear gods, Adam's bassist Tommy is ridiculously pretty! )

The happy-making musical happenings continue: I also scored tickets to see Kris Allen when he opens for Barenaked Ladies here in July! Pocket Idol!!! I'm kind of ridiculously excited about finally getting to see him perform live!

And since they added a second Glee Live show, I was able to get tickets for me and my mom as her Mothers' Day present. GLEE!!! So very happy-making!

And more! [livejournal.com profile] without_me was able to score tickets for us to see The Wall in November! Yay!

*breathes* OMG so much awesome music in my future!!!

And if all that wasn't enough musical awesomeness, today Trent Reznor announced the release of a new song with his new band How To Destroy Angels and it's hauntingly beautiful! I didn't even realize he was making new music, but apparently he is, and it's amazing!

ETA: More How To Destroy Angels! )

Happy Thing The Fifth: ME!!! *beams* I'm gonna brag on myself for a moment. Because I can. *g* And also because these are definitely part of the happy. First, my online food journal informed me today that I've logged on for 65 days in a row. That means that for the past 65 days I've been eating mindfully. For the past 65 days I've made conscious, deliberate decisions about what to feed my body; for the most part those have been healthy choices, but even when they haven't been, I've been aware of them and accountable for them. That right there is success! Second, I don't think I've mentioned this here, but last Friday I had my one year review. Holy cow, it's been a year! But, more importantly, it's been a damn good year! My review was positively glowing and came with a very nice raise and plans for long-term success and reward here. Job satisfaction is definitely happy-making!
After four days the caffeine withdrawal headache seems to finally be losing steam. I'm going ahead and claiming my victory now! \0/ (This does mean I can have coffee on Saturday morning, right? *g*)

The (awesomely caffeinated) weekend is just around the corner. I've got tickets to Sunday's D'backs game. This will be my first game of the season and on one hand I'm SO excited about getting back to the ball park and seeing my boys and BASEBALL!!!! On the other, dear gods, my D'backs are just a hot mess right now. Well, that's not entirely fair, they aren't all falling apart. The offense is clicking a hell of a lot better this season and they've done an amazing job battling back from early deficits. Now, if only the bullpen can figure out how NOT to blow a freakin' lead in the 9th, that would be just awesome. So frustrating! Dear Mr. Closer, giving up the lead with 5 runs in the 9th is NOT IN YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION!!!

*deep breath* Ok. So, how 'bout we talk about things that don't make me want to tear out my hair in frustration? Like the fact that I scored a ticket to Adam's show in Orange County in July!!!!!! We will NOT discuss how much I had to pay for said ticket. Nor will we discuss my insane willingness to fly to California for a mid-week concert and then have to fly right back the next day because that's also the same weekend that I have Lady Gaga tickets! *laughs* But, just imagine the sheer amount of GLITTERY FABULOUSNESS that week is going to involve with Adam on Wednesday and Lady Gaga on Saturday!!!! Is it possible to OD on glittery fabulousness? Oh, well. I'm willing to risk it! *g*

I have approximately 40 dozen fics to rec, but I think I'll do that in a separate post.

I also haven't seen the Madonna Glee episode yet, so I have to delay my flail over that until this weekend. I haven't checked, but I'm assuming my DVR cut off the last scene too, so I'm waiting until it re-airs on Friday to see it.

I feel like eating watermelon. Someone please carry the watermelon! *g*
My list of accomplishments for the weekend is unfortunately much shorter than I would like it to be, but on the plus side, there was a mind blowing Muse concert, some much needed lounging about, time to do some reading, a kick-my-butt-into-next-week workout with The Trainer, and at least some marginal progress on the To Do List. I'm calling it a win!

Among the weekend highlights: I GOT TICKETS FOR THE LADY GAGA SHOW IN JULY!!!! *twirls* Floor tickets sold out within minutes, so I ended up on StubHub. My credit card took a beating, but I was determined to get those damn tickets! *g* (By the way, if anyone is interested in going, I may have a few extra tickets available. Let me know!) Lady Gaga!!! It's going to be insane! I cannot wait!

Speaking of awesome music-related happenings, it looks as if I'll be in L.A. the weekend of May 8th to see MY GIRLS *smishes* and to catch Ely Rise's Birthday Creepshow!!! Exciting! Thank you [livejournal.com profile] coolwhipdiva! I am so ridiculously looking forward to hearing Ferras live!!! (And also might have made an mildly embarrassing high pitched noise when he re-tweeted my news about going. *facepalm*) I haven't even looked at the rest of the lineup, but I'm sure it will be fabulous! There's more info and tickets HERE.

In baseball news, I am pleased with how the D'backs have started the season. Brandon Webb craziness aside (seriously, Webby, you're mind-fucking yourself -- stop that already!), it's good to see them getting things done offensively. Speaking of finally showing an offensive game, the D'backs are currently leading the Pirates 15-4!!! That's what I'm talkin' about!

And, while an injury is never good news, Miguel Montero managed to fuck up his knee in yesterday's game so this means Chris is back behind the bag!!! So much YES to this! AND he hit his first home run this afternoon! Go Chris! (With the added bonus of this serving as a rather pointed eff-you to Faux-Mgr Hinch for benching him in favor of Miguel's bat!!! *evil laugh*) I'm hoping to be able to get out to the ballpark at the end of the month for their series against the Cardinals and Phillies and I'm super excited that I'll be able to see my bb Chris playing!!! *happy dances*

And then there's THIS. )

*swallows tongue* Jfc, Adam. Kill us why don't you.

Also, I have recs! Lot's of awesome recs! There's even some Jensen in here for my Supernatural peeps. *tempts*

For Your Entertainment )

Ok. I'm off now to make the most of what's left of this Sunday. I hope everyone's weekends have been made of just as much awesome as mine!
The betterness continues, which is exceedingly happy-making because I was quite done with feeling the like undiluted misery. It's also happy-making because it means that I will be taking my measurably less-sick self over to Mill Avenue after work to catch The Daylights show!!! Exciting indeed!

I know I'm late with the flaily-ness, but OMG WHITE COLLAR!!!!!!!! The season finale was so good! Neal and Peter and Elizabeth continue to be made of so much awesomeness, I can hardly take it! And, GAH, that last scene KILLED me! Oh, boys! *loves and loves* I'm so far behind on life, do we know if it's been renewed for a second season? Please someone tell me there will be more Neal and Peter and Elizabeth in my future!!!

Speaking of things which are awesome, have y'all seen these smokin' hot pics of Alexander Skarsgard in the L.A. Times Magazine??? Jfc. How is it possible that he seems to just get hotter and hotter??? Eventually you'd think that he'd max out the sexiness quotient, but that day has obviously not arrived.

Before I get back to my seemingly endless To Do list, let's talk about baseball for a minute. First the good: it is fantastic to see that Conor Jackson is back and looking healthy and strong again, after going down hard almost all last season with a nasty case of Valley Fever. I missed his hotass self on the field and I'm very happy that he's back! Also of the good, my bb Chris Snyder hit a home run in today's game! He's going to have to battle for game time, so this makes me more happy than it probably would if we didn't have an idiot for a manager who doesn't seem to understand the importance of a smart defensive catcher. Annnnyway. Yay, Chris! :) Of the not so good: Brandon Webb. He's likely to start the season on the DL. This is very much No Bueno! Been there, done that, had the craptastic season to prove it. We do not a repeat, thankyouverymuch. So frustrating! Especially since it seems to be more of mental thing at this point rather than a physical impairment. Dear Brandon, please to be getting your shit together. Sooner rather than later would be most helpful.

Alrighty then. Aren't y'all glad baseball is back??? Yeah, I knew you missed my baseball related ramblings. *g*
I was just looking at the Cactus League Spring Training schedule. Hush. It was a completely legitimate use of work time since it was for planning a firm outing in March to a ball game. But it made me realize that BASEBALL TIEMS are nearly here!!! *bounces* So, my baseball peeps, are we doing a Spring Training Baseball Weekend this year? *hopes* Anyone else wanna join me for some baseball in March?

Speaking of baseball, the Diamondbacks are having their annual Fan Fest thingy on Saturday (yes, I'm pretty sure "thingy" is in the official name). I thought about taking Rianna and Rhyan because they'd get a kick out of running around on the field, but now I'm reconsidering. Mostly because Rhyan has been so sick I doubt she'd be up for running around the field on Saturday, but also because the D'backs have announced the players who will be appearing on Saturday and they don't include Chris Snyder!!!! This fills me with so much rage!!! I hate that our faux manager has decided to play Miguel over Chris mostly because I suspect it has a lot to do with the fact that Chris was Bob Melvin's boy. Seriously, Miguel could not find second base on a throw from home if his very life depended on it! Yeah, he got hot at the plate last season, and I get that we need the offense, but sonovabitch can we at least recognize that we need a catcher who can call a smart game and be at least marginally solid defensively??? So. Much. RAGE!!!

*breathes* Ok, I need to think about happy and amusing things now. Like how there was a Jason Taylor look-alike attorney in court this morning who was completely rocking the shit outa the suit he was wearing and who was completely distracting me from what I was supposed to be doing! *bites lip* Or like the fact that we are going to a drag show on Saturday because apparently nothing says Happy Valentines Day like pretty boys in dresses! *g*

Speaking of pretty boys in women's clothing, did y'all see these AMAZING pictures of Adam's pretty little bassist, Tommy, from their vacation in Cabo?

First, yes, apparently Adam takes his "straight" bassist on vacation with him. Either Tommy's straight is of the incredibly bendy variety, or Adam's decided that he needs a pet straight boy. Either way, their antics fill me with GLEE!

Second, yes, Tommy is in fact rocking a white lace corset and a black tutu. And a parasol. On a boat. In Cabo. Because this all MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!!!! *laughs*

Third, Tommy IS in fact a very, very pretty boy:

Oh, boys! Never stop being THIS awesome!
This week at work totally kicked my ass. But as of Monday we have a law clerk starting who will be entirely at my disposal, to get discovery on my large litigation cases organized and to do all my research/writing projects. Basically, a minion! *rubs hands together* Also, there's a very good chance that the case scheduled to go to trial on the 21st will settle. Which means I will get two weeks of my life back, and I will be significantly less stressed. All of this is good news!

And despite the fact that work is currently kicking my ass, I feel as if I'm sufficiently settled in that I can start thinking about adjunct teaching positions. The Boss Man is totally supportive of this plan, and I think it would be good both for me and for the continued branding efforts of the firm for me to start building up some academic credentials. So, that's what I'm going to do. *nods* 'Cause, you know, a part-time teaching job on top of a 50+ hour work week sounds like a great plan. :P

I woke up ridiculously early today to go pick up produce from the co-op I recently joined. Dude. That was A LOT of fruits and veggies! For $15 I got a huge basket of locally grown fruit and another of vegetables -- easily twice that value if bought at the store. An economically and environmentally sound choice! This pleases me. :)

Probably a significantly less economically sound decision would be season tickets to the Diamondbacks' 2010 season. But, OMG, WANT!!! *grabby hands* I went out to the ballpark yesterday, for a brief tour and to meet with one of the sales folks. In addition to getting to hang out and watch BP, I also found the PERFECT seats. Sadly, I don't have almost $6000 lying around at the moment. It might be do-able though, if I could split the season 3 or 4 ways. Anyone on my flist interested in something like that? *hopes*

So, what's everyone doing today? I have a workout with the trainer this afternoon. I had to cancel our mid-week session, due to the aforementioned work-related ass-kicking, so I'm looking forward to today's workout. Then tonight I'm joining some of the girls from work for the Ricardo Arjona concert. Good times!
So, someone (*cough*[livejournal.com profile] azewewish*cough*) wanted me to post about something other than Adam Lambert. Seriously. What is wrong with some people? *shakes head*

Apparently, "LIFE IS GOOD," lacked sufficient details to be considered a substantive post. I thought it was both accurate and succinct. But, whatever. Here, for my friends who are less entranced by the shiny boy than I am, are some of the accompanying details:

:: Work is still going really, really well. Three months in and I'm still firmly convinced that this was the right move for me. Bossman is giving me a ton of responsibility and, based on what he's said, is really wanting me to take a prominent role in the growth and sustainability of the practice. We've just launched a new marketing campaign featuring yours truly and the other senior attorney in the office. What's really cool is that we're the only firm in the Valley who features female attorneys in our marketing. I'm really proud of this.

:: A huge factor in the LIFE IS GOOD situation is that I can definitively say that right now I have the best work/life balance that I've ever had since I started practicing law. I cannot begin to tell you how AWESOME that is! Definitely a big part of what I was going for when I chose "harmony" as my word for this year.

:: The Trainer is still regularly kicking my ass, and I sort of love it. The boxing is SO cathartic, and, now that I think about it, probably a factor in the great sense of balance I'm enjoying right now. I'm still looking to add in some dance or some regularity with Nia into my routine, but, one step at a time, you know? Also on the health and wellness front, I decided I needed a little more mindfulness in my nutritional choices, so I rejoined Weight Watchers -- two weeks and 4 pounds down! Go me!

:: The summer is at the miserably hot stage around here (I am SO over 115 degree days), but at least it's moving quickly. July is almost over. Geesh! When did that happen??? August is going to be a whirlwind. I'm heading to L.A. mid-August for a birthday weekend with my L.A. girls and then some vacay time with my family in San Diego. The following weekend [livejournal.com profile] hewet_ka_ptah will be here for some birthday celebrations. And then the weekend after that...well, let's just say that there are some glittery shenanigans afoot and I'm ridiculously excited about it! *g* Labor Day weekend (technically September, but it feels like part of the whirlwind), I'm heading back to L.A. to catch NIN in concert. Eeee!!! So many Good Times ahead! In between all that, I've got a birthday, a trial to prepare for, several family things planned, and, you know, LIFE to attend to. Whew. That's a crazy month coming up!

:: Since this is the extended Life is Good post, we shall not speak of The Boy, who flaked like a bad case of dandruff. Whatever, man. You gotta bring a helluva lot more than he seemed to have in order to keep my interest. Moving on. Life IS good, after all. *g*

:: We're also not going to speak of the RAGE that I feel over the D'backs' Faux Manager's decision to start Miguel Montero instead of Chris Snyder behind the plate. What the ever loving fuck??? Sure, Miguel's had a hot streak at bat, but, call me crazy, but isn't it kind of important for your catcher to be able to make the throw to second? Or call a smart game so that your depleted pitching staff doesn't run up its pitch count in less than six innings? Or, you know, have ANY defensive value at all? Argh! I, just...RAGE!!!!!

*deep breaths* Life is good, life is good, life is good.... Ok. That's better.

So, now that y'all got some of the deets, I wanna know what's good in your life too! Share with me, bbs!

Also, I'd like to point out that there is no mention of one Glittery Alien from the Planet Fierce in this post. You happy now, [livejournal.com profile] azewewish? :P
Why do weekends only last 2 days? Really, how is it that we have not figured out to make 3 days weekends standard? It's the 21st freaking century, we should have at a minimum evolved to 3-day weekends. I'm just sayin'.

So, while too damn short, the weekend was still a good one.

I got two killer workouts in with the trainer, on Friday then again on Sunday. He righteously kicked my ass with something like a bazillion squats and lunges and then boxing until I couldn't lift my arms. Good times, man. He suggested hot/cold showers to mitigate against the soreness, which are basically what they sound like, one or two minutes as hot as you can stand the water and then one or two minutes of cold water. The blood moving to the surface and back to your core as the temperature changes is supposed to flush out your muscles and promote faster recovery. Since I woke up feeling as if I had been hit by a truck, I decided to try the hot/cold thing. It turns out that hot/cold showers are a torture method worthy of being added to Dick Cheney's repertoire. Dear gods, that was a whole hell of a lot of NOT FUN. But, it is a very effective form of torture as I'm not nearly as sore as I expected to be! \o/

Saturday was for baseball!!! It turned out to be a great game, with my D'backs pulling out a win over the Marlins. Their success ratio is much higher when I'm actually at the game. Given their record this season, I obviously have slacked in my duty as a fan by not attending enough home games. *shakes head* But, in any case, good times at the ballpark on Saturday! It was Chris Snyder bobble head night, so now I have my bb on my shelf and this makes me exceedingly gleeful!!! Chris is still on the DL, but he did spend a good deal of the game being hot at the top of the dugout steps. We were about five rows behind the dugout, so I practically had Chris right in front of my face! Distracting!!! It also turned out to be Tony Clark's last appearance on the D'backs starting lineup, as he was released yesterday. Tony! I'm gonna miss your tall, dark, bald HOTASSNESS!!! *sadface* I'll get pictures up of Chris and Tony and the rest of the boys later tonight. Oh, boys, please try to get your shit together for the second half. Ever hopeful, Me.

So, let's see what else? This week is going to be busy. Lots happening at work. Plus, the Boss Man just asked if I wouldn't mind being featured in the firm's marketing materials. Naturally I agreed -- what better job security can you ask for than to be the face of the firm? But it means a photo session tomorrow, and before that a trip to the salon for some professional help in the hair and makeup department. And that's all on top of the actual work that has to get done this week! Insanity!

I also want to get back to Nia this week, since they moved it to a slightly later time slot so that I can get there after work now. Excellent! And I discovered this dance studio that's very close to where I live that I really want to try out. Check this out. Doesn't that look cool? Pole-dancing! Burlesque dance class! Bellydance! Yoga fusion! I'm so excited to check this place out! I should be able to get out there on Thursday night. Yay! And tonight I'm going back to Weight Watchers. Time to be more mindful of my nutritional decisions. *firm nod*

So, basically, my plan for the week is to cram as much in as possible! Go me! \o/

And, look at that...I made it through an entire post without talking about Adam Lambert. *g*
|1| Friday I went to the D'backs/Astros game with some folks from work. My boys won! Good times!

|2| Also on Friday we got a keg refrigerator for the office. *laughs* I love my job!!!

|3| I had to drive out to Lake Havasu City yesterday for a client meeting. Seven hours of driving there and back for an hour and a half meeting. So I've really only had half a weekend. Ugh.

|4| In addition to completely killing my Saturday, yesterday's client meeting also resulted in a speeding ticket from BumFuckNoWhere, Arizona. I'm seriously unimpressed with my Saturday.

|5| I managed to fuck up my shoulder and neck. Ow!!! And the worst part is, I don't even know what I did! *facepalm* I had a session with The Trainer today; he came over and we worked on stretching it out, but I still couldn't manage to get through a work out. It's ibuprofen and the heating pad for me today. Gods I feel old.

|6| Apparenlty, I have a twitter. Follow me! Resistance is obviously futile. *beams* So, um, let me know if you're there so that I can follow the minutia of your day too! Also, tell me who I should be following -- if my phone is going to buzz all day long I might as well be really entertained!

|7| You're probably thankful surprised that this entry is devoid of any mention of Adam Lambert. Not to worry! I've got a picspam coming up soon! I know you're as excited as I am!!!
My weekend was completely hijacked by The Elder Niece Child. I had planned on taking her to see Up last night and we did and it was fantastic. But then she decided she wanted a sleep over. Which we did, and considering she was nearly asleep by the time we got home from the movies, it was far less exhausting than a sleep over with a 6 year old can normally be. But then we woke up this morning and she announced that she needed pen and paper in order to MAKE A LIST OF THINGS TO DO TODAY!!! On the one hand, HILARIOUS, because this child SO shares my DNA. On the other hand, her list effectively pronounced the demise of my Sunday "to do" list. So, instead of laundry and grocery shopping and a car wash and oil change and lazing about reading Adam/Kris fic, my Sunday was spent at the McDonald's play area, and going for ice cream, and then hitting up the bookstore (see what I mean about the shared DNA???), and then, and then, and THEN. She had a whole LIST full of "and thens"!!!

Now the weekend is practically over, and I'm just getting started with that laundry and my "to do" list went woefully undone.

But, thankfully, Adam Lambert is still FABULOUS and makes everything better! )

Also, rumor has it that Adam's Rolling Stone cover will involve nothing more than Adam's fabulousness, a strategically placed snake, and an apple. Please, gods, let this be true!!!

And, finally, Kris is so wee! )

Wait! Baseball post script! First, dear D'backs bullpen, if you can please stop blowing huge leads in late innings I might be able to love you again. Until then, you will continue to receive my disdain. Second, though, way to go boys for sticking in there and finally putting up the W after 18 innings!!! \o/ Dear gods, I thought that game would never end.
Saturday? Hm. How did that happen? The week was sort of crazy-busy. I spent it wading through court hearings, and meetings, and motions, and trying not to miss deadlines on cases that have gone unattended for way too long before I got them, and, yeah, just BUSY. So this morning I got up in a panic because I thought I was late for work. And, then I realized it was Saturday. *sigh*

So, I spent my morning enjoying several cups of coffee (mmm...) and reading Kris/Adam fic (mmm...). And now I'm getting ready to get my ass kicked by The Trainer. He's really stepped up the boxing in our workouts, which I love! But after Wednesday's workout my arms were so sore that putting on a bra was a challenge! *laughs* Seriously, though, the boxing is so cathartic. I think maybe I should be worried that I have so much anger that apparently needs venting.

Anyway, before I get on with what is apparently my Saturday (YAY!), I thought I'd mention a few things of GREAT IMPORT about this past week.

1. Randy Johnson got his 300th win!!! On Thursday, Randy became the 24th pitcher to notch 300 wins. I am still a little sad that it couldn't happen in a D'backs jersey, but I'm so happy for Randy. Way to go, Randy!

2. We won't speak of that series against the Dodgers, but my D'backs were looking good last night in San Diego. They were playing timely small ball, which they haven't done in a while, so it was very good to see. Also, Justin Upton is really playing well, offensively AND defensively, which is also very good to see! Please to be keeping this up, boys!

3. I got my tickets for the American Idols Tour!!! Eeeee!!! The fabulousness of Adam Lambert and his adorable Pocket Idol are in my future! *bounces*

4. Also, Sam Worthington happened. )

5. Oh, yeah. That Adam Lambert dude? And the other one? Kris or something? I read a few fics that had something to do with them. *handwave* Here are my favorites from this week:

  • faire le linge by [livejournal.com profile] colorofsmoke (NC-17). Cross-dressing. Ridiculously hot. *bites lip* No, really. I don't even think I would have named cross-dressing as a particular kink of mine until I read this.

  • Borrowed and Blue by [livejournal.com profile] miss_begonia (PG-13). Poignant and beautiful. Saturated with emotion. I'll confess: I cried. Seriously, I normally don't do that, but this was just so well done and it just strikes the perfect emotional chords. So good.
- Any day that the D'backs beat the Dodgers is a good one. It's especially good when said win snaps a 7 game losing streak at Dodger Stadium. Now, um, if we could work on inching a bit closer to .500 I'd feel a lot better about life.

- Conor Jackson is making his acting debut this week in an episode of 'General Hospital'!!! The hilarity of this cannot be overstated! Conor, who's been too damn sick to play any baseball of late, will be earning his lunch as an actor in a soap opera! *laughs*

- President Obama has declared June to be LGBT Pride Month!!! I ♥ our President so hard!!!

- As is everything Adam related, pictures of him out on the town with his boy are ridiculously happy-making!

The weekend was awesome! There was lots of good baseball and all around good times! I would have rather have seen my D'backs actually win the series, but I'll make due with the series split, especially given the phenomenal come from behind win in extra innings yesterday! Plus, having a whole lotta really hot baseball players to ogle is a really fine distraction when the play isn't going your way on the field. *g* I have approximately a billion pictures from Saturday's and Sunday's games that I'm hoping to get downloaded soon (I did mention the really hot and completely distracting baseball players, right?).

But since I was feeling pangs of withdrawal from not having any fierce and glittery Adam Lambert or his adorable Pocket Idol in my otherwise awesome weekend, I spent some time reading all fic I had tabbed. For the record, there's some really bad fic out there. Y'all, however, don't have to worry about that, because instead of making your eyes bleed with all the clichéd, poorly characterized, first person (OMG why???? *cries*) dreck that I just waded through, I'm highlighting the good stuff. You're welcome. *g*

  • Zen by [livejournal.com profile] astolat (Kris/Adam, adult). Sleepy sex FTW!

  • Never Find Nobody by [livejournal.com profile] wearemany (Kris/Adam, Adam/Brad, NC-17). The sex here is Adam/Brad and it's crazy hot, but what makes this fic really great is the emotional resonance. It's wistful and a little sad, and just really good.

  • Shadows Held the World in Place by [livejournal.com profile] ruby_fruit (Adam/Brad, NC-17). Cross-dressing! Handcuffs! Seriously, do I have to say anything else??? It's ridiculously hot. *bites lip*

  • The Weight of the World (Is Love), Angels or Machines, Mad or Chill, and In Thoughts Constructs by [livejournal.com profile] ruby_fruit (Kris/Adam, 4-part series, NC-17).

  • Beer Break by [livejournal.com profile] pixel_0 (Gen, American Idol RPS/Supernatural crossover, PG-13). Yeah, you read that right. It's basically Dean fanboying Adam and bonding with him over Zeppelin. It's hilariously awesome!

  • endgame by [livejournal.com profile] conditionelle (Gen, PG). This is Kris and Adam BFFs fic. But it's so much more than that too. It is stunningly beautiful. It's lyrical and lush and strikes all the right emotional chords. It's one of the best things I've read in this fandom.
Oh, sweet crackers with jam, this day just refuses to end! Which means that the longest week in recent memory is STILL NOT OVER! Gah!

On the bright side (there's always a bright side), I only have about an hour's worth of work to do before I go to the airport to pick up [livejournal.com profile] azewewish!!! *bounces* There shall be BASEBALL this weekend!!! And awesome good times with my girl!!! And margaritas!!! (There are always margaritas.) *g*

We have tickets to Saturday's and Sunday's games between my D'backs and her Braves, and I'm hoping that these boys play some good ball because my baseball-lovin' heart cannot take any more sucktasticness! In between the baseball times, we shall get up to no good, as we do. *g* AND! I shall drive her insane with my incessant babble about the undeniable fabulousness of one Adam Lambert and his adorable Pocket Idol! She will hate me and I can't wait! *laughs maniacally*

So, that's what my weekend looks like. How 'bout y'all? Tell me about the no good you're gettin' up to this weekend. :)
I had huge list of things to do today that included very important tasks like doing laundry (I need clean clothes to wear to work tomorrow!), cleaning my house ([livejournal.com profile] azewewish is visiting next weekend and I thought it might be nice to get rid of my filth first), and going to the grocery store (not only because I need to eat, but because I'm out of toilet paper -- the horror!).

Instead of doing any of these things, I spent the day re-watching all of Adam's and Kris's AI performances, looking through YouTube videos of Adam's pre-idol fabulousness, and reading Kris/Adam fic! Go me!!! \o/

My lack of productivity, however, means that you don't have to wade through all the bad (really bad) Kris/Adam fic out there. Instead, in an attempt to feel as if I've accomplished something on my day off, I'll rec you the good ones!

In no particular order:

:: Winner Takes All (adult) by [livejournal.com profile] astolat. It's Adam/Kris, but mostly Adam/EVERYONE, which is exactly as it should be -- that boy is PURE SEX and should be gettin' it on with everyone, all the time.

:: Way Down Inside by [livejournal.com profile] wearemany. This is wistful and just lovely.

:: No Boundaries (PG) by [livejournal.com profile] miss_begonia. This is Kris and Adam, post-finale BFF-iness and it's just PERFECT.

:: Bed of Roses (PG-13) by [livejournal.com profile] cathalin. The guys have some things to work out. A post-finale friendship fic involving a bed, some hard truths, and an inordinate amount of talking. And did I mention the touching?

:: That Dizzy Edge (NC-17) by [livejournal.com profile] idwyt_nome. D/s and just ridiculously HOT!

:: hot on your heels (NC-17) by [livejournal.com profile] arabella_hope. I had no idea the application of eye-liner could be so DAMN HOT! *bites lip*

Also, [livejournal.com profile] kradam_news!!! Go. Join! So you too can be up to date on all the Kris/Adam awesomeness!!! Or, you know, so I won't feel as if I'm the only one who's completely lost my mind! *g*

But in case you think I've gone completely insane, I did watch the D'backs/Padres game today. Bastards blew a 6 run lead in the 8th. I am not impressed, boys! Not impressed at all! I am, however, very excited that next Saturday is Stephen Drew bobble head day! A Baby Drew bobble head!!! This is very happeh-makin'!!!
