In sum:

Work = CRAY. ZEE.

Home = Crowded.

Me = Losing it!

Dear gods, I feel as if I'm hanging on to my sanity by the very tips of my fingernails. At any given moment today it felt as if just one more thing was going to push me right over into a meltdown. Somehow, although there were too many one more things to even count, I didn't (a) kill anyone, (b) scream, or (c) cry. So, really, I have to call that a win.

In MUCH better news, though, Muse announced a second Arizona show, this one in Tucson on Sunday, April 11th, two days after their Phoenix show, headlining a one day music festival that's also going to include 30 Seconds to Mars, the Silversun Pickups, and Switchfoot! Awesome lineup! Needless to say, I will be in Tucson on April 11th! Muse!!! Twice!!! Pure awesomeness!!! (As an aside, though, what the hell is with still not having an L.A. show??? *boggles*)

And, also of the (extreme) good, assuming of course that I manage to survive this week, on Saturday I'm seeing ADAM LAMBERT IN CONCERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *flails madly* I've been so overwhelmed this week, that I haven't even been able to flail properly over this. But, OMFG, less than 72 hours!!! That's going to be my motivation for making it through this hellish week: a weekend at a casino/resort, getting to hang with [livejournal.com profile] coolwhipdiva and [livejournal.com profile] _lisalisa_, lots and lots of alcohol, and rocking the hell out with the ever fierce, ever glittery Adam Lambert! Exciting!
Work has totally been interfering with my internet time this week. Unacceptable. But while busy, things are still really good. We're really putting together a good plan for growing the criminal defense practice; I've got some really challenging litigation cases on my plate; I'm getting to work with and learn from some of the best litigators in the state. And I may even be doing a t.v. spot soon for an "ask the expert" type show on one of the Spanish language stations, but I don't have any of the details yet. Yikes! Sometimes, though, I feel like such a fraud, as if I'm mostly just faking my way through my professional life. I know this really isn't true, but the feeling of "oh, hell, I don't know what I'm doing" is often just below the surface of competency. One of my early mentors once said that this feeling never really goes away, and that it, in fact, helped to keep him sharp, always on his toes. I don't know whether that's true, and I'd rather think that eventually I'll start believing that I know what I'm doing, because I really do, but some days, man, are just duct taped together with a constant mantra of "fake it 'til you make it."

In less weighty musings, can I just say how pleased I am that my D'backs have actually been playing some baseball lately? Mark Reynolds has been freakin' on fire all through this clusterfuck of a season. I'm so happy to see him actually play to his potential. And Conor Jackson is finally starting a rehab stint. Poor baby has been so sick and I'm not sure if he'll be able to salvage anything of this season, but I'm glad to see he's finally on the mend. I may never forgive A.J. the Faux Manager for yanking Chris' starter position, but he did well in calling up Trent Oeltjen from Reno. This kid is amazing! Five games in the bigs and he's got 3 home runs, a handful of stolen bases, spectacular plays in the outfield, 5 RBIs, and a SMILE THAT WILL LIGHT UP YOUR WORLD! )

He's had this big, goofy grin on his face since he was called up. Adorable! And he's got this ridiculously sexy Australian accent! Mmmm, yeah, he can totally stay! *g*

Let's see, what else? Oh, yeah, I finally got caught up on Merlin. Talk about pretty boys who can totally stay! That show is completely ridiculous, but the eye candy is just irresistible!

Since we're on the topic of ridiculously pretty boys (as we often are around here *g*), I'll go ahead and confess that I've been completely charmed by Cheeks (Adam's ex, for those not in the glittery know). Seriously, that boy is too pretty for this world! Add smarts and a sharp sense of humor, and, really, how can you not be charmed???

Hm. This post is sort of all over the place, isn't it? Well, let's keep that up and end with this: OMG ONLY TWO DAYS UNTIL VACATION!!!!!! *flails* I have a million things to do still, but on Friday I get to hit the road for L.A. and an awesome-filled weekend with my girls! I cannot wait!
So, someone (*cough*[livejournal.com profile] azewewish*cough*) wanted me to post about something other than Adam Lambert. Seriously. What is wrong with some people? *shakes head*

Apparently, "LIFE IS GOOD," lacked sufficient details to be considered a substantive post. I thought it was both accurate and succinct. But, whatever. Here, for my friends who are less entranced by the shiny boy than I am, are some of the accompanying details:

:: Work is still going really, really well. Three months in and I'm still firmly convinced that this was the right move for me. Bossman is giving me a ton of responsibility and, based on what he's said, is really wanting me to take a prominent role in the growth and sustainability of the practice. We've just launched a new marketing campaign featuring yours truly and the other senior attorney in the office. What's really cool is that we're the only firm in the Valley who features female attorneys in our marketing. I'm really proud of this.

:: A huge factor in the LIFE IS GOOD situation is that I can definitively say that right now I have the best work/life balance that I've ever had since I started practicing law. I cannot begin to tell you how AWESOME that is! Definitely a big part of what I was going for when I chose "harmony" as my word for this year.

:: The Trainer is still regularly kicking my ass, and I sort of love it. The boxing is SO cathartic, and, now that I think about it, probably a factor in the great sense of balance I'm enjoying right now. I'm still looking to add in some dance or some regularity with Nia into my routine, but, one step at a time, you know? Also on the health and wellness front, I decided I needed a little more mindfulness in my nutritional choices, so I rejoined Weight Watchers -- two weeks and 4 pounds down! Go me!

:: The summer is at the miserably hot stage around here (I am SO over 115 degree days), but at least it's moving quickly. July is almost over. Geesh! When did that happen??? August is going to be a whirlwind. I'm heading to L.A. mid-August for a birthday weekend with my L.A. girls and then some vacay time with my family in San Diego. The following weekend [livejournal.com profile] hewet_ka_ptah will be here for some birthday celebrations. And then the weekend after that...well, let's just say that there are some glittery shenanigans afoot and I'm ridiculously excited about it! *g* Labor Day weekend (technically September, but it feels like part of the whirlwind), I'm heading back to L.A. to catch NIN in concert. Eeee!!! So many Good Times ahead! In between all that, I've got a birthday, a trial to prepare for, several family things planned, and, you know, LIFE to attend to. Whew. That's a crazy month coming up!

:: Since this is the extended Life is Good post, we shall not speak of The Boy, who flaked like a bad case of dandruff. Whatever, man. You gotta bring a helluva lot more than he seemed to have in order to keep my interest. Moving on. Life IS good, after all. *g*

:: We're also not going to speak of the RAGE that I feel over the D'backs' Faux Manager's decision to start Miguel Montero instead of Chris Snyder behind the plate. What the ever loving fuck??? Sure, Miguel's had a hot streak at bat, but, call me crazy, but isn't it kind of important for your catcher to be able to make the throw to second? Or call a smart game so that your depleted pitching staff doesn't run up its pitch count in less than six innings? Or, you know, have ANY defensive value at all? Argh! I, just...RAGE!!!!!

*deep breaths* Life is good, life is good, life is good.... Ok. That's better.

So, now that y'all got some of the deets, I wanna know what's good in your life too! Share with me, bbs!

Also, I'd like to point out that there is no mention of one Glittery Alien from the Planet Fierce in this post. You happy now, [livejournal.com profile] azewewish? :P
Why do weekends only last 2 days? Really, how is it that we have not figured out to make 3 days weekends standard? It's the 21st freaking century, we should have at a minimum evolved to 3-day weekends. I'm just sayin'.

So, while too damn short, the weekend was still a good one.

I got two killer workouts in with the trainer, on Friday then again on Sunday. He righteously kicked my ass with something like a bazillion squats and lunges and then boxing until I couldn't lift my arms. Good times, man. He suggested hot/cold showers to mitigate against the soreness, which are basically what they sound like, one or two minutes as hot as you can stand the water and then one or two minutes of cold water. The blood moving to the surface and back to your core as the temperature changes is supposed to flush out your muscles and promote faster recovery. Since I woke up feeling as if I had been hit by a truck, I decided to try the hot/cold thing. It turns out that hot/cold showers are a torture method worthy of being added to Dick Cheney's repertoire. Dear gods, that was a whole hell of a lot of NOT FUN. But, it is a very effective form of torture as I'm not nearly as sore as I expected to be! \o/

Saturday was for baseball!!! It turned out to be a great game, with my D'backs pulling out a win over the Marlins. Their success ratio is much higher when I'm actually at the game. Given their record this season, I obviously have slacked in my duty as a fan by not attending enough home games. *shakes head* But, in any case, good times at the ballpark on Saturday! It was Chris Snyder bobble head night, so now I have my bb on my shelf and this makes me exceedingly gleeful!!! Chris is still on the DL, but he did spend a good deal of the game being hot at the top of the dugout steps. We were about five rows behind the dugout, so I practically had Chris right in front of my face! Distracting!!! It also turned out to be Tony Clark's last appearance on the D'backs starting lineup, as he was released yesterday. Tony! I'm gonna miss your tall, dark, bald HOTASSNESS!!! *sadface* I'll get pictures up of Chris and Tony and the rest of the boys later tonight. Oh, boys, please try to get your shit together for the second half. Ever hopeful, Me.

So, let's see what else? This week is going to be busy. Lots happening at work. Plus, the Boss Man just asked if I wouldn't mind being featured in the firm's marketing materials. Naturally I agreed -- what better job security can you ask for than to be the face of the firm? But it means a photo session tomorrow, and before that a trip to the salon for some professional help in the hair and makeup department. And that's all on top of the actual work that has to get done this week! Insanity!

I also want to get back to Nia this week, since they moved it to a slightly later time slot so that I can get there after work now. Excellent! And I discovered this dance studio that's very close to where I live that I really want to try out. Check this out. Doesn't that look cool? Pole-dancing! Burlesque dance class! Bellydance! Yoga fusion! I'm so excited to check this place out! I should be able to get out there on Thursday night. Yay! And tonight I'm going back to Weight Watchers. Time to be more mindful of my nutritional decisions. *firm nod*

So, basically, my plan for the week is to cram as much in as possible! Go me! \o/

And, look at that...I made it through an entire post without talking about Adam Lambert. *g*
Today was a ridiculously long day. Seriously, meetings that are going to last 4 1/2 hours should come with a warning so that I can pack snacks (and extra coffee, lots of coffee!). I'm wiped. So this will be short. Short lists! Because lists make me feel better. :)

The suck:
- meetings that last 4 1/2 hours
- the headache that resulted from a tragic lack of caffeine during said meeting
- the unfortunate state of my "to do" list after a day spent mostly in meetings
- my bb, Chris Snyder placed on the DL *sadface*

The awesome:
- still really diggin' my job
- gorgeous rainbow arching across the sky on my drive home
- conversations with good friends
- making plans with [livejournal.com profile] azewewish to see Down in L.A. in August...Philip!!!!!!!!!!
- Spa Day this weekend -- I cannot even adequately explain how desperate I am for a pedicure.
- looking forward to a weekend in Ojai celebrating J's fabulousness
- this! )
This is a pleasant Monday morning, despite the fact that there is seemingly not enough caffeine in the world to make me feel fully awake. I've had twice my normal caffeine intake and I still feel as if my brain is wrapped in a fog. Weekend road trips wreck havoc on my ability to function come Monday.

Despite the OMGSOSLEEPY-ness of this morning, the day is a good one and the weekend was fun. Got to spend some time with the extended Familia, and it was for the most part blessedly drama-free. Also got to spend some time with [livejournal.com profile] hewet_ka_ptah and that was fabulous. There was lots of yummy good food, and lazy-times in the pool, and silliness with The Awesome Nieces, and it was good.

This week is already crazy-busy, but I'm still enjoying the Awesome New Job enough that I don't even mind the craziness! I'm sure that'll pass soon enough, but for now I don't even have work-related bitchiness to report. *beams*

I also just picked up tickets for me and [livejournal.com profile] azewewish for the D'backs/Braves series later this month, so the plan for an awesome baseball weekend in the near future is making me happier than normal for a Monday morning!

I'm debating whether or not to go to Texas for Memorial Day weekend. On the one hand, I've already got my plane ticket. On the other hand...well, "the other hand" is an annoyance that I'd rather not stain this otherwise pleasant Monday with...but I just don't know what to do! *ponders*

I'm also not going to sully this good day with my thoughts on new D'backs manager Hinch's announcement that Chris Snyder and Miguel Montero are going to be splitting catching duties. I'm sure y'all can guess what I think of this, right?

Moving on. It's a good Monday, people! I'm going to go grab something for lunch and then be a busy bee this afternoon! How 'bout y'all? What's your Monday looking like?
Wow. This week just flew by. It was good though. Or mostly good. Let's discuss the good first, shall we?

First, the Awesome New Job is still AWESOME! I'm digging into to some really interesting cases, with all the responsibility and autonomy that I was promised. I'm getting to know my co-workers and my initial impression that these are folks who I'll like working with is holding true. We have lunch together as a firm on Fridays, and last night after work we all hung around having a beer! So, while everyone is expected to work hard (I didn't leave the office before 7 this week), everyone also works together and gets along, and I still think this was the perfect move for me! Yay!

Second, Supernatural rocked my world this week! I don't even want to talk about it until after the finale, but I'm so glad that the creative team aren't pulling any punches so far.

Third in the "good" column, I just had a kick ass workout with The Trainer Man. With being sick last week, and the new job this week, I hadn't had a training session in going on two weeks. Now that I have a better idea of what my schedule is going to look like, I'm hoping to bump things up to two sessions a week soon. Getting my LIFE back on a semi-predictable schedule makes me happy!

Finally, of the good, I'm getting ready to head down to Tucson for a Mothers' Day Shindig with La Familia! Yummy food, copious amounts of margaritas, and fun times by the pool! PLUS, I'll also get to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] hewet_ka_ptah who I haven't seen in approximately an eternity! Good times!!!

Of the not so good this week is the complete clusterfuck that is the D'backs front office and the new coaching team. *shakes head* Firing Bob Melvin was bad enough, although somewhat understandable given the crappy start the team has had this season. I still think, though, that given the success he's had with this very same team the past two seasons, they owed it to him to at least give him to the All-Star break to see if he could turn things around. But whatever. The team sucks, someone has to go. I get that. What I completely don't get is their decision to replace Bo-Mel with A.J. Hinkle who has ZERO managerial experience AT ANY LEVEL (but who does happen to be BFFs with GM Josh Byrnes). Even more incomprehensible, is that they thought it was a good idea to give this completely untried, inexperienced, newbie A THREE YEAR CONTRACT!!! WTF???? It's one thing if you want to shake things up, try something new, get some fresh blood in with an unconventional managerial choice; it's a whole other thing to tie your experiment down to a three year agreement! Seriously, I can't even begin to wrap my head around this. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks Josh Byrnes has lost his mind. That Dilbert-speak? How is that supposed to translate to better baseball??? Seriously, man, the mind just boggles.

I'm not even going to get into the Manny fiasco. Inexcusable, man. Completely inexcusable.

So, apparently all my bad news this week centered around baseball. *laughs* In good baseball news, though, I was at the Awesome New Job exactly 2 1/2 days before I had convinced everyone that a firm field trip to a home game was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY in the near future! With the D'backs crazy schedule, it looks as if won't happen until the Astros series in June. But, YAY! MOAR BASEBALL!!! ([livejournal.com profile] editorzon is right: no one is safe from the Baseball Borg!)

Anyway, I hope everyone is having a good weekend. Much happiness and love to all the moms on my flist! *mwah*
:: First day on the New Job went well. Time flew in a flurry of new and interesting cases and before I could even remember to refill my coffee cup, I had worked through almost 10 hours. I don't plan on making the working-straight-through-lunch-and-right-on-into-dinner thing a habit, but it was fun to dive into the challenge of new legal issues.

:: Plus the Boss Man brings donuts in the morning and grinds beans for coffee several times a day. I think I'm gonna like working there!

:: Adding to the shininess of the day was a closet full of a new and awesome work wardrobe to choose from this morning! I think I can safely say that I looked FABULOUS today! *g*

:: The creeping crud from last week is mostly gone now. Feeling good cannot be overrated! \o/

Miscellany

Apr. 7th, 2009 06:13 pm
:: OMG people! Work is killing me this week! Doesn't it know that I've already mentally checked out and just want to get on with this damn job search??? Why must it continue to harangue me??? *cries*

:: In happier work-related ramblings, though, I was able to negotiate a really good result for a client today; he was very pleased and grateful and it was just SATISFYING. Go me! \o/

:: Also of the good, I have an interview this Friday with a small firm that looks promising. *fingers crossed*

:: NBC is moving Kings to Saturdays. This does not bode well for the survival of the show. This displeases me greatly because Kings is all that is awesome and fabulous!

:: I get to watch my Diamondbacks play in just 10 minutes! *glee* The Opening Day glow has not worn off. I'm still giddy over the start of the season!

:: Speaking of baseball (and I'll likely be doing a lot of that until October), how 'bout a baseball fans friending meme? MOAR BASEBALL!!! MOAR BASEBALL FANS!!! There is no bad here, people!!!

Baseball friending meme!
Why can't days like today come with a pause button? Seriously, all I need is 15 minutes to catch my breath and come up with a plan for getting through the rest of this day. But instead this day just keeps coming right at me without even slowing down as it runs right over my sanity.

I just took a good look at my schedule, and even though I KNEW this, I hadn't really taken the time to actually process the fact that I will be starting a new trial EVERY MONDAY for the next 3, possibly 4, weeks!!! Egads!

So, yes, stress thy name is ME!!! Which is why it was a good thing to spend my lunch hour working out with the new trainer!boy. Putting on the boxing gloves and just whaling on the pads does wonders for my disposition! Perhaps I have some anger issues. Or maybe the thwap of the gloves making solid contact just appeals to some sadistic corner of my heart. I'm not sure what it is, I just know that I'm a happier person once I get to hit things! *evil grin*

Let's see, what else? Last night I made a delicious pot of gumbo for dinner, and this time I didn't screw up the roux, so it's all thick and yummy and even better as left overs! Mmmmm...can it be dinner time, now? Also, my house still smells like smoke from my mom's book burning adventures the other day. Every time we use the microwave, the smell just gets horrific all over again. Anyone know how to get burned book smell out of the microwave? (Because I'm sure this kind of thing happens to you ALL the time!)

In baseball news (because baseball news is important to my LIFE!) I watched most of Alex Rodriguez's press conference today. Now, we all know that I'm not really a Yankees fan, nor am I really an A-Rod fan, but I do have to say that he managed to earn some respect from me today with his candor. As my grandmother would say, te valiste, Señor Rodriguez, bien hecho. And, whatever goes down in the clubhouse, well done to his teammates for standing with him. Now, can we all report on something else this Spring Training, please? *hopes*

In VERY EXCITING news, President Obama will be less than 2 miles from my house tomorrow morning!!!!!!!! *flails* In much less exciting I news, I will be in court rather than basking in his awesomeness. *sadface* I kid you not, the school that he's speaking at tomorrow morning is less than 2 miles down the road. He will be so close!!! And I, sadly, will be so far away. Life is so unfair!!! *woe*

Well, I guess I took my 15 minutes anyway. Unfortunately, instead of coming up with a plan for the rest of the day, I instead screwed around on LJ. Go me!
Today I was reminded that I do not, in fact, know what it's like to be a black man accused of a crime and tangled up in our seemingly endless and too often unjust criminal justice system. The reminder left me feeling more helpless than I've felt in a long time. And yet, while it's true that there's no way for me to understand, I'm trying to remind myself that what I can do is my best to be an effective advocate. Sometimes, though, work manages to suck the hope right out of my day.

In significantly less bleak news, my schoolgirl crush on President Obama continues unabated. Seriously, whenever I think I can't love him any more, someone goes and posts a picture like this: )

I prefer to think of my unabashed fangirling of our President as patriotic enthusiasm, though. *g*

And, a quick note to local flisters: Super Bowl Party!!! Whether wearing Cardinals red or waving your Terrible Towels, y'all are invited. Ping me if you need an address.
This week has been INSANELY busy. But I can't complain too much because part of the insanity is that I'm trying to get ahead of a couple of projects since I'll be jumping this crazytrain next week for five days in Austin! OMG I can't wait!!!

In other craziness, I burned a huge pot of gumbo last night and this makes me very sad. :( I blame it on the mediocre pot I was using rather than my inattentiveness, but whatever, my gumbo was RUINED. *woe* And as if that weren't bad enough, my house still smells like smoke. Blech.

I have a question for the baseball fans on my flist. Hypothetically, if you were to make a list, possibly with accompanying photographic exhibits, of the Hottest Men of MLB -- (What? It's not as if these lists don't already exist in our heads!) -- who would make your list?

Speaking of hot men (as we do around these parts), not of the baseball playing variety:

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the Comedian may just be the death of me. )

It was worth sitting through the People Choice Awards if only to see Shemar Moore looking incredibly sexy in glasses. )
I made significant progress in organizing MY LIFE today. Well, not my entire life. But my work life is quite a bit more organized. There is still quite a ways to go, and, more than digging through the pit of chaos that is my home office, I need to work on developing PROCESSES for staying organized (without a secretary - organization was so much simpler when I had a support staff *sighs*). But the fact that tonight I can see significant portions of my desk and that most of my files are neatly labeled and that the piles of paperwork have been sorted and that I have sticky notes (bright pink ones!) on all the files indicating the next case management steps MAKES ME EXCEEDINGLY HAPPY!

You know what else is making me exceedingly happy tonight? Chris Snyder will be with the D'backs for at least the next three years!!! CHRIS!!! *so much love* And he's mine a Diamondback until at least 2011! *glee*

And since we're on the topic of all things awesome, I will be going to the Cardinals/Falcons playoff game on Saturday!!! Playoffs are a rare thing for the Cardinals. As I told my brother, we may be in our 50s the next time this opportunity rolls around again. *laughs* So I'm pretty damn excited to be going to the game. It should be fun!

Also awesome: I will be meeting [livejournal.com profile] ladymairwen for lunch tomorrow and a good ol' gab session. Yay! After that I have a client meeting before I call it a New Year's holiday. My New Year's celebration shall consist of fancy desserts from AJ's, and Chinese food delivery, and a bottle or so of wine, and lazying about in PJs watching movies until the New Year! Perfection! How will you be ringing in the new year?

Misc.

Dec. 17th, 2008 09:01 pm
So yesterday's trial didn't happen after all. After a frantic morning of last minute negotiations and motions and wrangling with a hysterical and unreasonable client, we were about to start picking a jury when the prosecutor decided that he didn't want to send a sheriff's deputy to pick up his extremely uncooperative victim and haul her to the court to testify, so instead he dismissed the charges. Sometimes the criminal justice system just spins itself in circles until until everyone on board this crazy ride is ready to throw up. *shakes head* Anyway. At least Ms. Crazypants is no longer my problem to deal with. This is definitely of the good.

Also of the good:

- I have a few things I need to get done tomorrow and then I'll consider myself on vacation until the 23rd!!!

- I've also finished all of my holiday shopping! I need to put some things together and wrap some packages, but I'm otherwise done. (I've also decided that I'm not going to stress about not having any decorations up yet. If it happens before next Wednesday, great. If not, I'm not going to worry about it.)

- I plan on doing some holiday baking tomorrow. Mmmm...cookies!!!

- On Friday I drive to California for a long weekend at Disneyland!!! I am perhaps more excited about this than my niece, Rianna. :D And, in addition to the Happiest Place on Earth, I get the added bonus of seeing most of my Hookers and catching a Steve show!!! It shall be a very good weekend!

I also have a bit of holiday cheer for y'all: Lady Antebellum's Baby, It's Cold Outside. Enjoy!
Dear gods this day started way too early. I have a motion that I need to file today, before noon as I have an afternoon court hearing, and last night I just ran out of steam sometime after midnight. So I was up again this morning before 6 to finish it. There really isn't enough coffee in the world to make me feel awake enough to deal with this day. *cries*

The motion, though, is coming along nicely. I have just one section that I need to tweak a bit, then a final review before I send it off on the electronic highway for filing. It is, if I may say so myself, a damn fine example of legal writing and persuasive argument. I, quite obviously, rock! *g*

After court today I plan to make a bit more progress on the holiday shopping front, as I will be knee deep in trial prep for most of the weekend. I also need to get caught up on laundry and life in general as next weekend I'll be heading to California with Niece Child the Eldest for a weekend at Disneyland. How is it that December is flying by so quickly??? *boggles*

Any how, I hope y'all are enjoying the hell out of Friday. I especially hope that [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster is enjoying the hell out of this Friday because this one happens to be her birthday!!! Happiest of birthdays, PT! I hope the day is full of the things that make you happy and that the year ahead brings lots of love and laughter your way! *mwah*
- Court this morning was inordinately quick and hassle-free. I approve!

- Since I was done with court so early, I stopped by my local Democratic headquarters and spent the rest of the morning making calls. It was fun to see the range of people there this morning volunteering. And while most calls on a Monday morning go unanswered, I did have really good conversations with about a dozen different people. I'll definitely be working phone banks again the weekend before the election.

- As I was being incredibly productive, I also got some grocery shopping done today. For the record: the fresh made tzatziki and red pepper hummus from Fresh & Easy grocery stores are DELICIOUS!!! Better even than Trader Joe's. Mmmmm.

- But because it is Monday, there is a measure of suckitude. I won't go in to it except to say that sometimes some of my clients make me want to howl a banshee-like scream of pure rage! Why do I do this again???

- In better news, The Nieces are due here any minute. This evening shall be full of crazy girl-child shenanigans and many squishy hugs! ♥

- Also, I'LL BE IN NEW ORLEANS ON THURSDAY!!!!! *flails*
Yesterday: In one word, MISERABLE. It was Office Moving Day -- a billion and three degrees, furniture that weighed slightly more than a fuckton, and my loser cousin bailing on me with the moving help, which meant that it was just me and my brother doing the heavy lifting. And, for reference, the loser cousin who bailed? That would be the same loser cousin who's criminal case I'm currently handling, for FREE. *hates* The only positive thing about yesterday? A very YUMMY mango smoothie for breakfast lunch dinner the only damn thing I had time to eat all day.

Today: Longest freakin' Monday in recent history of bad Mondays. Ugh. I can do without the 4 a.m. start times and the scheduled end-to-end days, thank you very much. But I did manage to squeeze in about 3 days worth of work in to today, including settling or almost settling five cases. I rock! \o/

Tomorrow: High potential for AWESOMENESS. I get [livejournal.com profile] annkiri here for an overnight pit stop some time in the afternoon. BECCA!!! And then we'll head over to the ballpark for the Diamondbacks/Padres game. BASEBALL!!! Tomorrow will definitely not suck. *g*

In other news:

- The work mess is still not unfucked. I'm hoping to have more answers tomorrow. *crosses fingers*

+ I just received a FABULOUS gift basket from [livejournal.com profile] erianne1 filled with homemade soap, bath stuffs, lotion, lip balm and candle! It all smells yummy and I can't wait to dig in! Thank you, Angi!!! ♥

- Either the air conditioner or the fan or maybe both in my Trooper seem to be crapping out. The timing couldn't possibly be worse. I'm afraid to even imagine what this is going to cost. *stabbity*

+ My mom is AWESOME!!! For many reasons, but more recently because she's buying me my airline ticket to New Orleans for my birthday! New Orleans is still a go!!! \o/

+/- Generation Kill is still some of the best television I've seen! But next week is the last episode and I'm kind of sad about that.
Dear gods. This week has dragged on SO slowly. Work is progressing at a good pace and I've been able to get quite a bit done, but for whatever reason this week has seemed so sluggish. I did catch a bit of a break work-wise today by being relieved of duty with regard to a particularly problematic client. Which also means that I get my October back instead of it being consumed by what was going to be a long (at least 3 weeks) and likely horrifying trial.

And despite the slow pace, tomorrow is in fact Thursday, which, importantly in my part of the world, means the start to an awesome baseball weekend!!! \o/ I've got tickets to all four games of the Diamondbacks' series against the Braves and I'm SO looking forward to the time at the ball park! I'm hoping to get done with court and jail visits and the piles of paperwork on my desk early enough tomorrow to make it in time for batting practice.

Other tidbits for this forever-long week include:

- Generation Kill fic is slowly starting to make it's way to my flist. This is exceedingly happy making!!! Possibly my favorite so far: Home, Fick/Colbert (set after the events on the show) by [livejournal.com profile] wrenette.

- While football normally doesn't make a significant blip on my sports radar until after October, Sports Center is telling me that Brett Favre has been traded to the Jets. Hrm. That's really all I have to say about that. Hrm.

- Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be playing a closeted gay man in Ang Lee's "Taking Woodstock." With Liev Schreiber as a transvestite! And Emile Hirsch! The amount of AWESOMENESS in this one announcement is, well, AWESOME!!!

- Strangely, the venue where Christian Kane (and, apparently, Steve Carlson) will be opening next week for country artist Chris Cagle has stopped selling tickets for the show. The site says only "Sale Stopped." Yesterday when I checked availability they seemed to have plenty of open seats, so I'm not really sure what the "stopped sale" means. I'm telling you, this whole thing is wrought with strangeness. *boggles*

- 20 days until my birthday!!! I'm of the firm belief that one ought to celebrate their own entrance into this world for not just a day but for their entire birth month. *nods* So, I'm officially on Birthday Month Revelry!!! \o/

- The workout with Trainer!Boy today included a good deal of boxing. It was one hell of a workout, but, man, did it ever feel good. Beating the shit outa something is better than therapy! *is fierce*
This day has been insane. I was scheduled in five different courtrooms this morning! I finally managed to hit them all, but I didn't get out of court until nearly noon, just in time to grab my recorder and some coffee before dashing off to an interview. I've finally managed to make it to the office, and I have reams of paperwork to work through, but first I'm giving the Excedrin I just popped a few minutes to work on this damn headache.

So, yeah. Definitely a Monday.

The weekend, however, was made of rest and relaxation, with lots of baseball, reading, Generation Kill and nothing more taxing than a family birthday party and a few loads of laundry. Just the kind of weekend I needed!

Speaking of Generation Kill, if you aren't watching it, you really should be. The show is phenomenal. I don't think I exaggerate when I say it's the same caliber of military show as was Black Hawk Down. Interesting characters and character dynamics. Gritty storytelling. Realistic dialog. Just all around good stuff. Plus? Really hot men in military uniform. Or, even better, shirtless!!! What's not to love? See what I mean? This is Sgt. Brad Colbert and his lovely back tattoo!!! )

Which brings me to Alexander Skarsgåd, the Swedish actor who plays Colbert. Isn't he just pretty? )

He really needs to be on my t.v. screen more often. And, apparently he will be as he's landed a recurring role in HBO's "True Blood". *laughs* Man, I had absolutely NO desire to see this show. In fact, the viral marketing campaign was really getting on my nerves. But, now? I don't know. I just might have to check it out.

And since my tangents have already included shirtless military men, hot Swedish boys and vampires, allow me to go one more: Marcus (of the Divine Rod of Light) has retired his dancing thong and will no longer be performing with the Hollywood Men. Apparently, gettin' naked for money is an "old habit" that he must leave behind in order to pursue his new purpose in life, coaching. *laughs and laughs*

Let's see. What else? Despite a really Monday-ish Monday, the rest of the week looks good. Work, of course, will be work. But later in the week there will be lots and lots of baseball!!! I'm dragging my mom with me to Thursday night's game against the Braves, then [livejournal.com profile] azewewish will be in town for the rest of the series. Yay!!! I can't wait!

I'm also back on a regular schedule with Trainer!Boy. He thoroughly kicked my ass on Friday and I felt it all weekend. He'll be back this evening for more ass-kicking. But after a few weeks off due to a crazy travel schedule, it feels good to be back on track.

Now that the headache seems to be dulling, I better get to this pile of paperwork. Why, though, is it still Monday??? *whines*
- HAPPY BIRTHDAY, [livejournal.com profile] idiosyncratic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope the year ahead brings lots of happiness your way, baby! *mwah*

- My clients are idiots. This is reconfirmed on an almost daily basis. Most of them deserve exactly what they get. A few of them are despicable in every way and I wouldn't let them near anyone I held dear. But some of them? Some of them really break my heart. I know. I'm a sap.

- The All-Star Game yesterday was a great one. Excellent pitching. Some fabulous defensive plays. Really fun to watch. But I'd sort of like to see the National League win, you know, like once every decade or so! *shakes head*

- After the late finish of the All-Star game last night, I stayed up even later watching George Michael: A Different Story. I had to watch it on my laptop because I'm an idiot and didn't realize I was buying a Region 2 DVD. But even on my tiny laptop screen it was awesome and made me love George even more!!! *draws sparkly hearts*

- I get [livejournal.com profile] editorzon later today!!! *bounces* I'm so excited! And tomorrow we're catching a midnight showing of The Dark Knight!!!! *bounces more*

- I really want to watch "Generation Kill." I also want to be able to keep up with "Brotherhood" next season. I think this means I need to get both HBO and Showtime. Soon. Like this afternoon.

- There's lots of baseball lined up this weekend. On Friday night I'm taking the familia out to the game -- my mom, my brother, my SIL, Rianna and Rhyan. Rhyan will be taking in her first baseball game at 4 months!!! And Rianna is very excited both that she gets to wear her new game shirt and that there will be fireworks after game. I'm just hoping the Diamondbacks can remember that they did have an offensive game once upon a time. On Saturday [livejournal.com profile] technosage and I will be taking in the second game of the Dbacks/Dodgers series. There will be Bob Melvin bobble heads involved! *glee*

- Next week is Comic Con!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
