In the last few days my news and Twitter feeds have been tragically full of news about gay teens taking their lives after suffering anti-gay bullying at school. This breaks my heart. But the fact is that this isn't news; not in the sense that it is a new or recent phenomenon. I guess I can take some comfort in the mere fact that these boys' tragic stories did actually make my news feed. Maybe as a society we are becoming more aware of the problem? *hopes*

I hate that feeling of sad hopelessness that I get whenever I read about the Seths and the Ashers and the Tylers of our world. I'm a doer. I want to DO something. But other than to do my best to be a better human being and to teach those other/younger human beings within my circle of influence to be better human beings, it often seems as if there's damn little I can do. But then I remember that sometimes the best thing I can do is to empower others to DO. So today I took some of that sad hopelessness and channeled it into something more positive by donating to the Trevor Project. You can even text TREVOR to 85944 to make a $5 donation. It's doing something. More, it's enabling those better equipped to do something.

I know things are difficult economically for a lot of people -- believe me, I know. But if you can find even $5 to spare -- heck, that's a latte! -- I encourage you to donate. In memory of Seth, Asher, and Tyler and all of the other young men and women who have felt so alone and misunderstood and unloved and unsupported that they couldn't see a way out, make sure that they have a safe-haven to go to, so that someone can remind them that it will get better. We can all help to make it better.

Also, if you haven't, check out Dan Savage's It Gets Better project on YouTube. Messages of hope. There can never be too many of those.
I'm sure I had things to say about today (is it Friday yet?), and life (still awesome!), and work (crazy busy!), and the master of the 80s teen flick passing away (RIP), and the first Latina Supreme Court Justice being confirmed (OMG YAY!), and my D'backs sweeping the Pirates, winning 7 of their last 8 and finally playing some damn BASEBALL (hot new Australian OF can definitely stay!).

But, instead, I've been distracted by the glitter. And, awesome person that I am, I'm sharing the sparkly with y'all!

First sparkly thing: [livejournal.com profile] phabella posted the most glitterific Adam (and Brad!) picspam ever! It's Adam! Covered in glitter and feathers and sparkly shit! Wearing fishnets! And generally looking fierce and awesome and completely debauched! AMAZINGLY HOT!

Second sparkly thing: Here in Secret Harmonies by [livejournal.com profile] miss_begonia (Kris/Adam, R, Harry Potter AU!!!). This is quite possibly the most DELIGHTFUL thing I've ever read! I couldn't even begin to express how awesome this is! There are wizards, and magic, and singing, and glittery spells, and tiny messenger unicorns!!! Simply DELIGHTFUL!!! Just, go read. No, really. Go read now. I'll wait.

Shiny things are happy making! *beams*

Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett.

What a tragic day for the world of entertainment.
1. Was it just me or was this like the longest Tuesday ever??? Jeezus this day just dragged on forever. It probably didn't help that I was running on about 3 hours of sleep, had a massive migraine going, and really only wanted to be home reading Kris/Adam fic and watching video of their interviews. But seriously this day was like 3 weeks long. *sigh*

3. While we're on the topic: The Epic KrAdam Bromance Guide for Idiots. Go on. Click it. The sheer awesomeness and glee contained in that one post cannot be textually rendered!!! I dare you not to be completely charmed by these boys!

4. Now while that post is brimming with awesomeness, it is admittedly a bit Kris-centric. So, let me balance out the scales a bit with some additional Adam love. I'm not sure if I can properly describe the fabulousness of one Adam Lambert. Seriously. This boy is fuckin' FIERCE. He says shit like "I'm gonna top you like whipped cream on IHOP pancakes"!!! Now I KNOW that you bitches can appreciate a man who speaks these kinds of endearments! *g* (Speaking of, this REALLY needs to be on an icon!)

Additional pictorial evidence of Adam's fabulousness. )

5. I know that we're all horribly disappointed by today's California Supreme Court ruling on the validity of Prop. 8. I've read the opinion and I could probably talk about what I think of the legal reasoning behind the decision. But, really, do we need more legalese blah blah blah at this point? I don't think so. At least I don't. What I'd like instead is a little damn hope. So, here. Have a song that made me cry the first time I heard him perform it:

Adam Lambert covers Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come (studio version)

Be good to each other people. *mwah*
Thing 1: It's Friday!!! Superfluous, I know. But, still, Fridays always deserve several exclamation points. Most especially Fridays before a three-day weekend!!!

Thing 2: Last night's Supernatural episode. )

Thing 3: How AWESOME was Game 1 between the Phillies and the Dodgers??? Very, I say -- very awesome! Also awesome is wrapping up my day early so that I can watch Game 2, which, by the way, the Phillies just took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Go Phillies!!! \o/

Thing 4: I found a super-cute top today for my New Orleans trip -- for only $7.50!!! Bargain!

Thing 5: Speaking of Thing 4...ONLY 13 DAYS UNTIL NEW ORLEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I can hardly wait!!!

Thing 6: Way to go Connecticut Supreme Court!!! It's always a GOOD DAY when equal rights for ALL comes out the victor!
Tim Russert, host of Meet the Press, died today of a heart attack.

Sad news, indeed. The upcoming election won't be the same without him at the helm of Meet the Press.
Sadly, I have nothing appropriately scary or creepy to accompany today's date. Unless you include work which is still looming in scary proportions, but while my clients are criminals, only a few of them are truly creepy. So that kinda fails for a Friday the 13th tie in as well.

But it IS the reason I've been MIA this week. *grumblebitchcomplain* Of the good, though, is that in an effort to save on gas, I've been driving into the office less and instead working from home. Which has the added benefit of allowing me to watch my Diamondbacks' afternoon games!

Speaking of baseball, I'll be heading to the ball park this evening to watch the D-Backs take on the Royals for some inter-league play. I'm really looking forward to it because it's been just too long since I've had me some BASEBALL!

Also of note on this weekend's agenda: I've got tickets to see a local production of Reefer Madness tomorrow. I'm mostly going because Trainer!Boy has the lead and if I don't he'll probably make me do a bazillion squats next week. It's a self preservation thing. Although it has been getting good press and might actually be funny and entertaining. We shall see.

I've also been making my travel plans for the rest of June and July. By some brilliant feat of planning, or the exact opposite of that, I am traveling to either L.A. or San Diego or both EVERY OTHER WEEK between the end of June and the middle of July! *facepalm* In between all that traveling? I'm doing two trials and preparing for a three week trial staring in August. Yeah. July should be very interesting.

Also interesting? The news that Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Alex Kozinski shares porn online. *laughs and laughs* When I clerked for the 9th Circuit, I thought Judge Kozinski was a complete ass. Brilliant, sure. But still an asshole. The news that he kept porn on his website though? Kinda makes me like the asshole.

Lastly, shamelessly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] drvsilla: Foto Friday!!! )

Hope y'all are having a non-scary, non-creepy and completely FANTASTIC Friday the 13th!
This, of course, is EXCELLENT NEWS! I've not read the full opinion yet (it's 121 pages long!), but what I've seen of the majority's opinion, the language, while obviously limited to California's constitution, seems to be expansive and potentially helpful in other such battles: California's ban on same-sex marriages violates the "basic human right to marry a person of one's choice." It also addresses and rejects the often used argument that allowing same-sex marriage somehow deprives opposite-sex married couples of something: allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry "will not deprive opposite-sex couples of any rights and will not alter the legal framework of the institution of marriage."

And while I absolutely think that today's California Supreme Court's decision should be wildly celebrated, because, hell yeah they got it right!, I also didn't want it to get lost in all the cheers the sad truth that this win could be short lived. So, ATTENTION CALIFORNIA VOTERS!!! There is a proposed ballot initiative (scroll down the page to #1298) currently pending signature verifications that could completely undo this victory. The initiative, if it makes it to the ballot and is approved by California voters in November, would amend the California Constitution to provide that marriage is only between a man and a woman. This would, in effect, supersede today's ruling. So, yeah. Be aware. Be informed. And vote!

And, in the meantime, CELEBRATE BECAUSE HELL YEAH THE CALIFORNIA SUPREME COURT GOT IT RIGHT TODAY!!! *throws confetti*

Heath Ledger, dead at 28. I find myself unspeakably sad over this tragically early end to such a talented young man's life. May his passing be peaceful and may his loved ones find comfort for their loss.
The New York Times offers this test to measure just how well you paid attention to what made the news in 2006.

I haven't taken it myself. But based on the few questions that I glanced over, I must have had my head buried in the sand all year. I think I'll try it again tonight after a few glasses of wine.
Time Magazine's Person of the Year for 2006 is you. Or me. All of us, in fact, who spend what is probably way too much time in front of our respective computer screens. I suppose "congratulations" are in order.
