Notes on the (May) Day.

It's supposed to be the lusty month of May, right? Yeah. Not so much with lusty, ribald, celebratory feeling 'round these parts. Whatever it is that came and took up residence in my lungs last Friday has completely kicked my ass and made me it's coughing, hacking, OMG-I-can't-breathe-and-would-really-like-to-just-DIE-now-please bitch. I managed about a half day's worth of work yesterday before I just couldn't and today I somehow dragged my ass out of bed and to court and then to the office for what amounted to almost a full day's worth of work. But then I came home and was just wiped. the. fuck. out. There was nappage and then I whipped up a yummy batch of spaghetti for dinner. And now I'm on the couch, waiting for Supernatural to start, and firmly planning on not doing anything else that requires any effort for at least the next 15 hours or so.

So, no May Poles for me. But despite the plague, there are still good things happening in my world.

First, there's the aforementioned NEW EPISODE OF SUPERNATURAL tonight!!! *bounces* I didn't bitch aloud (mostly because I was busy fending off DEATH), but I was less than enamored of last week's show. I mean. It was ok. But after waiting forever for a new episode, I was expecting a hell of a lot more than just MEH. So, tonight I'm fully expecting our show to kick ass! *nods*

Second, plague or no plague, tomorrow there shall be BASEBALL!!!!!!!! technosage and I have tickets to see the D-Backs take on the Mets and kick some ass of their own, as they do. OMGYAY!!! Baseball! And hotdogs! And beer! And ogling of the hotass Conor Jackson! And ALLIE!!!!!!! Good times, people. Damn good times.

Third, I've been mentally spending my tax refund and economic stimulus check all week, even though only one of them has actually graced my bank account. I'm thinking it's time I jump fully into the technological age and buy a Blackberry or some such device. Who's got one? What do you have? Do you love it? What do I need to know before buying one? Am I going to regret being forever tethered to my email or will this be the best thing ever? Advise me, oh wise ones.

I've also, possibly, got my eye on a charity auction for VIP tickets to see NIN at the Voodoo Experience in New Orleans this Fall. (OMG how awesome would that be???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) And, perhaps, I'm considering splurging on floor level tickets to see George Michael. Maybe. (Anyone want to join me? *tempts*) Obviously, there shall be NO practical investment or debt reduction or some such nonsense.

Fourth,...um. Well I really don't have a fourth. But I do have Winchester boys in five minutes. So I'm outa here! Blessed Beltane, peoples! Or Happy May Day! Or just enjoy the impending Spring! Whatever floats your boat. I wish y'all lot of sex (or at least porn!) and ribald merry makin'! *mwah*

What model of Blackberry do you have? Show me a picture? Please. :) Also, I can be technologically challenged at times. Is it easy enough to use/set up that I'll be able to do it?

I have a Curve. I've carried a BB for YEARS, so I've been through several and this is my fave.

Trust me, if *I* can set it up and use it then anyone can.

I used to look down my nose at people with their PDA/smartphone obsession. It seemed totally unneeded and a waste of money!

Then I bought a Treo, and seriously, I don't know how I ever lived without it. :)

Why did you go with Treo instead of a Blackberry? Is it easy to use? Is the phone functionality lost in all the other bells and whistles? I wanna know EVERYTHING! :)

A couple of reasons... for starters Palm OS works with my Mac, and I wanted easy backup/loading/etc. capability. Also, I really like that Palm will let you load applications and documents on it - Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. as well as little applets (I have an awesome alarm program that I downloaded for free). I like the touch screen and stylus input, it makes it very easy to copy/paste rather than typing a bunch of stuff if you're composing email or whatever.

Oh, I LOVE the camera -- it takes really nice resolution photos, considering it's a camera phone. And the LJ Mobile application for Palm is cool -- take a photo, compose a post, post to your LJ right from your phone, it's all automatic! It's kind of awesome.

Also with Treo you can "beam" stuff (documents, games, programs) from one Treo to another just by pointing them at each other and pressing a button. It isn't something I use a lot but it's pretty cool when I do. :)

But more importantly than any of that, the Treo was cheaper to start and had a $100 rebate, plus the monthly service (I have Sprint) for Treo was WAY cheaper for the services I wanted. Like, $30-$40 a month cheaper than Blackberry or iPhone. So I can't say that Blackberry doesn't do all of those things and more (I honestly have no idea), because the price differential was so extreme I didn't really look at it very closely.

Yay! Thanks for all the info! I had a Treo briefly, for about 2 weeks, when I worked for The Firm. But I couldn't get used to the touch screen/stylus when I needed to just use it as a phone. Have you had any problems with that? Do they now have a number pad too?

Hmmm. The price difference IS something to consider. *thinks*

You can either use the touch screen OR the keyboard to dial - there is a "number pad" designated on the buttons (those keys are white instead of blue on my model). Or you can hit the contacts list or recent call logs and just hit enter.

Treos are really HEAVY compared to Blackberries. Just something to be aware of.

That may well be true, but the model I have is much narrower than previous Treos so you might want to test it out & see. Oh, and the battery lasts for DAYS.
