I'm a little loopy on codeine-laced cough medicine at the moment, so I can't really be articulate enough to write a proper post. On the other hand, that whole mind-blown, head-fuzzy, word-loss thing may because I haven't been able to stop staring at these for the past two days!!!! )
All those things that I didn't talk about yesterday? Yeah. Totes gonna talk about all of that today!

So, first some bitching and kvetching! You're excited. I can tell. *g*

I cannot be the only one COMPLETELY annoyed with authors who seem incapable of determining what rating to assign to their own writing, right? I mean, really, "PG/NC-17" tells me NOTHING about what I can expect from your story!!! Neither does some made up rating like PG-15. WTF is that even??? There are entire WORLDS of difference between a PG story and one that's NC-17. Speaking of, if you tag your fic as NC-17, someone sure as hell better be getting fucked. I will be most annoyed with you and will probably never read anything you write again if you tell my your story is NC-17 and I read it to find that there's no actual sex anywhere on the page.

Also, I will totally judge you, unkindly, if you cannot figure out how to properly write and format a heading. Seriously, this is not rocket science, people. And if your summary is a page long? Well then may I suggest you grab a dictionary and actually look up the word "summary."

*deep breaths* Well, I certainly feel better about all that. :D

Ok, let's talk about Lady Gaga. I think y'all know that I'm a fan. No, like, really a HUGE fan. I still maintain that Gaga's Fame Monster tour is like in my top 3 all time favorite concert experiences. I think Bad Romance is brilliant! I think her videos are amazing. I love me some Gaga! So I was definitely predisposed to pretty much love whatever new music she put out. Until she started hyping the shit outa it. By the time Born This Way was released this week, my expectations were like stratospherically high based on all of the hype coming primarily from Gaga herself. This is supposed to be THE definitive gay anthem, after all.

When the lyrics leaked a few weeks ago, I put aside my initial OMG THESE ARE REALLY OFFENSIVE cringe, and decided I'd reserve judgment until I heard the song. The song was, after all, supposed to completely blow my fucking mind, so maybe I would be able to forget that she sings about me being from "chola descent" or about being "Orient made." (Oh, gods, so much NO!)

Then I heard the song. And, well, aside from thinking it all sounded really damn familiar, I was decidedly underwhelmed. Sure, it's catchy. So was Express Yourself. And I'm certain it will play great to a live audience -- lots of dancing and fist pumping and all. But, come on, this was supposed to be GAME CHANGING. She told us it was going to be the best thing ever!!! Instead it's just another derivative, catchy pop tune. If it hadn't been so damn over-hyped I probably could have even liked it. Instead I'm just MEH about it. And, also, more than a little bit offended by those lyrics now that my mind is sadly NOT blown. (I'm not even going to get into what I think about her partnering with motherfucking Target of all places, and the fact that she is apparently not getting called on that by anyone. *rage*)

So, you know, when Lady Gaga shows up to the Grammys in a plastic egg and hatches on stage to sing a song that has fallen far short of all the self-promotion, I find myself being more annoyed than entertained. Surely this defeats the purpose of the plastic egg and alien shoulder implants. :/

Ok, so apparently I had things to say about that. This has turned into considerable more bitching and kvetching than I had anticipated, so I'm going to put all the awesome stuff and pictures of pretty boys in another post. Pictures of pretty boys! Now THAT I know y'all can get excited about! *g*
I have LOTS of things I want to talk to y'all about today, like some fic pet-peeves, and how Lady Gaga is making me eye-roll so hard it's starting to hurt, and Cheeks' hilarious remix of her new single, and the Grammys, and how ridiculously HOT Adam looked at the Grammys, and the new (wet & shirtless!) pictures of Darren. Yeah, lots of things, that I'll get to later today.

First, though, let me tell you about all the amazing things I've been learning...from drag queens. I've been watching RuPaul's Drag Race this season, because Sutan Amrull, Adam's amazing make-up artist, also known as Raja, is competing. Raja is fabulous and I'm thoroughly enjoying the show. I wasn't expecting, however, all the valuable life wisdom there was to glean from beautiful drag queens! Seriously, y'all. These queens are amazing and have a thing or two to teach the world about being fierce and fabulous and courageous and authentic and funny. And, yeah, I'm a little bit in love with all of them. *g*

One of the things that Rupaul does in every episode is he reminds the girls that "If you don't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?" This is TRUFAX, people. True fucking facts.

And last night, as I was up all night, again, hacking up a lung and basically not being able to BREATHE (ugh. I'm so OVER being sick!), I thought about that and realized that I haven't been doing a very good job of loving myself lately. Admittedly, it's ~challenging to feel love for yourself, for your body, when it feels as if it's betrayed you by throwing out the welcome mat for every germ and virus that comes knocking at the door.

But that's the thing, right? Love, all love including self-love, is forged and made a real and solid and lasting thing, not by its expression when it's easy, but by what it does and says when it's NOT easy to love.

So, today, I'm going to work on loving myself better. *nods* This will be my Valentine's to myself. <333

This is how I'm going to start.... )

Happy Valentine's Day to MEEEEEEE!!!! <333

And, you know, if anyone would like to join me in a self-love orgy (mmmm...sounds dirty! *g*) in the comments, please feel free to do that! Tell me three things you love about you, three awesome things about yourself, and three ways you're going to love yourself this week! Let's make it a lovefest!!! Because in the immortal words of RuPaul, if you don't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love someone else? *mwah*
I'm still trying to claw my way out of the grip of this plague. I have no voice today, which is not particularly fun. But I'm still hoping this antibiotic is kicking some germ ass and I'll start to feel better soon. *hopes*

But, on a cheerier note, it is Friday, and that's always fun. Plus, there are some cool things happening in the world, like, oh, you know, the Egyptian people successfully conducting a (mostly) peaceful revolution by harnessing the power of Twitter! Ah-may-zing.

Another cool, though far less world-changing, good thing today: [livejournal.com profile] _lisalisa_, [livejournal.com profile] coolwhipdiva, and I have VIP tickets, WITH MEET & GREETS, to the San Diego Glee Live! show!!!! *twirls* J was workin' the ticket mojo yesterday and she scored for us! I'm still deciding about whether I'm going to the Las Vegas or L.A. shows, but I'm super excited about the San Diego show with mah girls!!! <333

Also, in case you've been under a rock and somehow missed all the hype: Lady Gaga's new single dropped today. Now y'all know that I love me some Gaga, but you can't deny that "Born This Way" sounds a hell of a lot like Madonna's "Express Yourself" with a side helping of "Vogue". I don't hate it -- and it'll probably grow on me the more I listen to it. And I'm sure it'll play really well to a live audience. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I was underwhelmed. I mean, if you're gonna self-promote your single as the best anthem ever, then you better produce something phenomenal. And this is ok, I just don't think it's phenomenal. *shrugs*

Also, relevant to nothing at all, I want cupcakes. I haven't actually consumed anything but soup, orange juice and Nyquil for most of the week. But I have a wicked craving for cupcakes right now. Someone bring me cupcakes, 'k? *beams*
Cilantro Lime Chicken Soup is the Mexican equivalent of chicken noodle soup. Since this has been the House of Plague for the past two weeks, we've been hitting the soup pretty hard -- cilantro lime chicken soup, orange juice, and Nyquil pretty much sums up my nutritional intake this week.

So, since the plague seems to be going around, I thought I'd share the recipe in case y'all wanted to add a little Latin flare to your get-better soup makings.

not so much

Feb. 9th, 2011 09:20 am
I hate to celebrate another's misery, but I gotta say I was pretty damn happy when I got the call this morning that the attorney I was going to interview with came down with bronchitis and had to reschedule our interview. I have been experiencing a resurgence of the plague since Monday and was feeling particularly "not so much" this morning. (Which is what Rhyan says when she's not feeling good -- that she feels "not so much." I totally understand what she means.) So, anyway, I'm really ok with not having to power through my own misery in order to wow someone with my brilliance. Hopefully next week we'll all be feeling better and I can be brilliant and charming without being plague-ridden and miserable.

So, now that I can be miserable in my PJs from the warm comfort of my bed, I'm feeling better about this day. *g*

Let's talk about things that ARE so much, shall we?

Like the Glee Live! concert tour announcing U.S. dates! This is so much awesome!!! Sadly there's no Phoenix date this year, but damn right I'll be heading to L.A. and San Diego for those shows. I may even talk myself into the Vegas show. This show was like a huge helping of PURE JOY last year and I can't wait to see what they bring this year!

Speaking of Glee, I absolutely LOVED last night's Valentine's day episode! ) Way to knock it outa the park twice this week, Show! <333

Who watched Chicago Code the other night? Admittedly it wasn't take much for me to be on board with a show that brings Jason Clarke back to my t.v. screen, but I liked it. Definitely a keeper on the DVR schedule.

Ok, now that I'm not having to be brilliant this morning, I'm going to go drug myself up with some cough medicine. Later, I think I'll finish my taxes -- nothing like crunching numbers when in a narcotic haze!
I had been feeling so much better, and then I randomly woke up feeling like road kill again. I'm not impressed by this turn of events. :/ Especially since I had awesome, happy-making things to flail with y'all about today!

I still want to talk about the awesome, happy-making things, but due to the aforementioned feeling like road kill, I'm going to confine my flail to a list:

- Congratulations, Packers!!! (I still love Mike Tomlin like PIE, and I greatly ~appreciated his hotness on my t.v. screen yesterday, but, man, I really did not want Ben going home with a Super Bowl ring this year.)

- GLEE!!! I loved, loved, LOVED everything about yesterday's episode!

- GLEE!!! (It totes deserves two spots on this list!) I can't wait until tomorrow's Valentine's episode!

- This picture and this picture melt my heart into a big pile of happy goo!

- I have an interview on Wednesday! *fingers crossed*

- My family. <333

- Phil Anselmo and his pet chickens.

- Homemade guacamole.
I've been reading a lot of Hawaii Five-O fic recently. Some of these are older, because they've been sitting in my "to read" folder for a while, but they were all thoroughly enjoyable!

H5O: Steve/Danny )

I love reading Steve/Danny, but a little Chin Ho in my fic wouldn't go amiss. I don't even care who he's paired with. Chin Ho is like the little black dress of the island -- he'd go great with anyone! The only problem? I can't find any Chin Ho fic!!!! *woe* So, if you know where the Chin Ho fic is hiding, please tell me! *begs prettily*

Now, back to the recs...

Let me tell you a tragic tale about brownies. You'd think that any tale involving brownies, or, really, chocolate in any form, couldn't possibly be all that sad, right? Well, you'd be wrong.

After four days of feeling like reconstituted crap and having the energy to manage nothing more strenuous than a nap, I decided that I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. My solution? Baking brownies! Naturally. I'm obviously of the opinion that chocolate can cure whatever ails you.

I should probably not have tried to bake while under the influence of Nyquil, though, because when I bit into the delicious, chocolaty goodness of my brownies...they crunched. My brownies were not supposed to crunch. As soon as I bit into, um, crunchiness, I remembered that a few weeks ago I broke a glass dish in the same cabinet that houses my brownie pan. I thought I had picked up all the glass. I was wrong. There must have been small shards of glass in the brownie pan that I didn't see before pouring in the mixture.

For the record, a chocolate coating does not improve the taste of glass. :/

I have no way of knowing if there was more glass in the pan, but I didn't want to chance it, so I dumped the whole thing. So now I'm sick and tired and brownie-less. I think I'm going back to bed now. :(

I am currently living in a House of Plague. Everyone in this house is various degrees of sick and miserable. Except, of course, for the rambunctious 2 year old. Gods help us. :/

Between the plague and the cold meds, I can't seem to make words, so instead I'm going to post pictures. Pictures of happy!

The absence of a routine has been a hard adjustment; so in an effort to start the weeks off right, I've been doing happy lists on Mondays.

Today has been a truly sucktastic Monday. High stress has resulted in low immunity, hence feeling only slightly more whole than road kill today. So did not need this right now. Wallowing in my own misery and phlegm, I really did not feel like thinking of positive things to put on a happy list today. But I guess that's the whole point, right? Focusing on the good despite feeling not good.

So, yeah, a happy list:

- Yesterday I got a surprise visit from an old friend, Sara, who I've known for over 20 years but whom I rarely see since she lives in Nashville now. It was so great though to go to brunch and spend hours talking and catching up and it truly feeling as if we were just resuming a conversation we started last week, even if it's been more than a year since I saw her last.

- Speaking of my amazing friends, I had a lovely phone chat with [livejournal.com profile] editorzon last night that made me again realize how blessed I am to have such fabulous women in my life. Y'all know who you are! *loves*

- Adam had a birthday on Saturday and there was a photo booth at the party, which meant hundreds of awesome pictures like this to sift through and enjoy: )

- Also, Nyquil and orange juice. Thank all the gods for Nyquil and orange juice.
The national tour of "Spring Awakening" is playing at Gammage this week for two nights. My mom and I caught last night's show, and, holy hell, it completely blew my mind! I don't even know if I can coherently express how freakin' amazing this was. The music! The cast! The set design! Ahhhh!!!! No. Words. I might need to see it a few dozen more times before my words work again. Just, if you can, go see it. (My L.A. girls: it'll be playing at the Pantages in a few weeks. Go! Go! GO!!!)

Other fabulous things about this Friday:
♒ A Cassidy Haley sex tape. No, really.
This interview with Darren Criss. Delightful!
Pictures of Adam at Disneyland with Sauli looking ridiculously happy. :D

Now you go. Tell me what's fun and fabulous about your Friday! Or your weekend! Or your LIFE!!!
Cowboy Mouth: [livejournal.com profile] llandaffaz and I went to see Cowboy Mouth Saturday night at The Compound. Holy hell! They KILLED it!!! It was flat out FUN! So much screaming and dancing and jumping -- by the time their nearly 2 hour set was over I had lost my voice, was drenched in sweat, and was happier than I'd been in a long time. Seriously, these guys know how to bring the good times; if you get the chance to see them live, don't pass it up.

Cowboy Mouth also made me totally miss New Orleans. This blasted job situation needs to resolve itself soon, because there really does need to be a trip to New Orleans some time this year.

Football: I really hold no love for the Jets, and I think Mike Tomlin is all that is hot and amazing, and I love Hines Ward and his ridiculous smile, and I think Troy Polamalu and his ridiculous hair are wonderful; Ben Roethlisberger, however, is on my shitlist and it's gonna take a hell of a lot more than a good season for him to redeem my now very low opinion of him. Plus, Jason Taylor! I really wanted Jason Taylor to finally get to play in a Super Bowl. *sadface* So while I'm happy enough for the Steelers (mostly the aforementioned Coach of all Hotness, Hines and his adorable smile, and Troy's hair *g*) it wasn't really the outcome I was hoping for. *ducks from [livejournal.com profile] azewewish and [livejournal.com profile] idiosyncratic* In any event, this is going to make for a good Super Bowl match up, so there's that.

T.V.: Hawaii Five-O continues to bring the eye candy and snarky partner banter. This continues to make me happy. I'm easy like that. *g*

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena premiered this weekend and, while Andy Whitfield is definitely missed, it looks promising. There was plenty of crazy fight scenes and spurting blood and gore, and of course there was no shortage of sex and half naked gladiators. All of which make for A+ television as far as I'm concerned. (We've established that I'm easy like that, right? *g*) I was also intrigued by some of the new characters introduced and I'm interested to see what happens to them (presumably something bloody and fatal, since they didn't make it to the first season). So, yeah, while this is obviously a stop-gap, it seems as if it will at least be an entertaining one.

In T.V. to look forward to news: The new season of RuPaul's Drag Race, featuring Raja aka Sutan Amrull aka Adam Lambert's wickedly talented friend and make-up artist!!! I can't wait to see Raja be all fierce and fabulous on my television screen!

Other Good Things Happening This Week: Nia class tonight! Volunteering with 1n10 again tomorrow night! Spring Awakening on Thursday!

Also, since I'm in the "I'm missing New Orleans mood" thanks to Cowboy Mouth, I think I'll make some delicious jambalaya for dinner tonight. Nom nom nom!

So, yeah, that's my good stuff happy list for Monday. What's good in your world this week?
Well, my trainer Matt kicked my ass well and good this morning, so I guess that was fun. For a certain value of fun. The inability to move my arms now is definitely not fun, though. Ow. :/

And in our good news/bad news segment of Fun Friday: I got a phone message from the producers of The Talk. Apparently I got tickets to the taping on February 9th when Adam will be appearing. Two free tickets to see Adam!!! (This would be the "good news" part.) The bad news part would be that it's in L.A., and I'm in Arizona, and jobless and trying to be fiscally responsible, and I just don't know if I can or should make a trip to L.A. at this point. *sadface*

We also decided to postpone our night of burlesque. Half of our group came down with some type of creeping crud, so we decided to wait until everyone was healthy again. No sexy fun times. What kind of Fun Friday is this anyway??? :(

In better news, although for Saturday so it really doesn't make my Friday any more fun, [livejournal.com profile] llandaffaz and I are going to see Cowboy Mouth tomorrow night at The Compound. I think it's humanly impossible to listen to Cowboy Mouth and not have a damn good time. This will indeed be fun and I can't wait!

I'm going to get on with my fun marginally amusing Friday, with some yummy lasagna for dinner and the return of hot gladiators to my television the premier of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena!
Mostly, there are t.v. things:

:: White Collar: I'm so happy this show is back!!! )

:: Hawaii Five-O: I was several episodes behind, so had some catching up to do on my DVR, all the way back to Hana 'a'a Makehewa. Anytime we want to air another episode that involves a sweaty and gorgeous looking Chin Ho on his knees for practically the entire hour, please, Show, feel free to do that. Sweet jam on crackers, that was mind blowingly hot! Eye candy aside, I really loved that we got more character development for Chin Ho in the last episode. And, really, Steve and Danny, can you be any more married???

:: I just found out that I can stream Starz on Netflix! This is very good news because it means that I will be able to watch this starting this weekend! )

Also, while I'm really going to miss Andy Whitfield as Spartacus, this guy seems like a good choice to replace him.

:: The Cape I really wanted to watch another show with Summer Glau in it, and I tried, I really did. But no. Just, um, no.

:: Jason Clarke will be back on my television screen soon!!! I just saw the preview for The Chicago Code and I made all kinds of embarrassing squeaky noises of glee when I saw that Jason Clarke was in it. Please, gods, PLEASE let this show not suck! Jason Clarke!!!! *flails*

Also, a few Tumblr things:

:: Darren Criss weeerking the red carpet at the Golden Globes after parties! )

:: These pretty boys will be on the cover of EW next week! )
Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. day, fellow Americans! I loved waking up to dozens of Dr. King's inspiring words being quoted on my Twitter feed and on Facebook. These are some of my favorites:

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Life's most persistent and urgent question is, "What are you doing for others?"

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

Powerful, inspiring words! What a great way to start a Monday!

So, let's continue this whole Start The Week Off Right trend with a Monday Happy List! :D

Chris Colfer won a Golden Globe last night was adorable and his cast mates were delightful and he gave the most beautiful and heart-touching speech of the evening! )

This photo of Darren Criss and Lauren Potter, the actress who plays Becky, makes my heart go all warm and mushy! )

This is going to happen!!! [GLEE SPOILERS]

♦ Adam Lambert joined forces with charity: water and asked his fans to raise $29,000 for clean water projects for his birthday on January 29th. That goal was reached within five hours!!! He's now upped the goal and as of this morning over $65,000 has been raised! People doing good is definitely happy-making! :D
