Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. day, fellow Americans! I loved waking up to dozens of Dr. King's inspiring words being quoted on my Twitter feed and on Facebook. These are some of my favorites:

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Life's most persistent and urgent question is, "What are you doing for others?"

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

Powerful, inspiring words! What a great way to start a Monday!

So, let's continue this whole Start The Week Off Right trend with a Monday Happy List! :D

Chris Colfer won a Golden Globe last night was adorable and his cast mates were delightful and he gave the most beautiful and heart-touching speech of the evening! )

This photo of Darren Criss and Lauren Potter, the actress who plays Becky, makes my heart go all warm and mushy! )

This is going to happen!!! [GLEE SPOILERS]

♦ Adam Lambert joined forces with charity: water and asked his fans to raise $29,000 for clean water projects for his birthday on January 29th. That goal was reached within five hours!!! He's now upped the goal and as of this morning over $65,000 has been raised! People doing good is definitely happy-making! :D

This was on my Twitter feed this morning:

How would you fill in the blank?
Ok, I'll warn y'all up front, if you are in possession of a heart, which I'm pretty sure y'all are, this will likely make you cry like a baby who just wants his mommy.

This "It Gets Better" video is from televangelist Oral Roberts' gay grandson. Yeah. I didn't know he had a gay grandson either. Apparently he had a gay son too. Ronald David Roberts committed suicide in 1982, just after coming out. This video is a letter to "Uncle Ronnie."

The text at the beginning of the video. )
Ok, so, I'll say it, yesterday sucked. And not in the positive, life-affirming kind of way. I now live in a state that has actually elected Jan Brewer as governor; the Democrats lost control of the House; and people like Rand Paul were elected to the Senate. Not. A. Good. Day.

Today I had to trek to Tucson and back to pick up my grandmother. That drive is brutal. And all I got out of it was a piña colada Eeegee. What I'm basically getting at here, is that, given the past two days, I could use some cheering up. So, how 'bout some random bits of awesomeness?

I know I always talk about Adam around here, but, in case I hadn't made it clear, let me say that Kris Allen is fabulous too!!! Only, you know, fabulous in plaid instead of glitter. )

Also awesome? Pink's new song, "F**kin' Perfect"!!! It's, well, FUCKING PERFECT!!! (Too awesome for asterisks!) If you haven't heard it yet, you should. You can check it out HERE.

And while we're on the subject of Pink's awesomeness, have you seen her video for "Raise Your Glass"? I dig it. *nods*

Raise Your Glass! )

Both of these It Gets Better videos were awesome in totally different ways: beautiful voices, beautiful faces, beautiful message (and one green frog). )

You know what else is awesome? The rest of that Eeegee from earlier today made even betterer with the addition of a generous amount of Malibu rum!!! Delish! :D

Ok, me and my rum laced Eeegee are feeling better about life now. *g* What's happening with y'all?
So, today kinda sucked. Even more so than your average Monday suckage.

First, just about everyone in this house is sick, including me. Rhyan has strep throat. Rianna is in the hospital for the second night in a row with a chest/head cold type thing that sent her asthma into overdrive. They still can't get her breathing right, so she's in for another night. Whatever germy crud initially got to the girls has now attached itself to me too. So much DNW.

Second, I got word that a job I interviewed for a few weeks back, one I was genuinely excited about and for which I thought the interview had gone really well, is not going to be mine. And, that news just really drove home how much this whole unemployed/job search thing really just blows. I'm so sick and tired of not working; I feel as if my mind is literally turning mushier every day; financially things are getting trickier to juggle. The whole thing just sucks big hairy monkey balls.

But, despite the general suckage of this day, there were some really awesome things that, in the end, totally redeemed the last 24 hours for me.

First, Adam announced a second L.A. show!!! He'll be playing the Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theater on Wednesday, December 15th. This is awesome for several reasons. The obvious one: MOAR ADAM!!! But an Adam show on this date at this venue is also a pretty cool full circle moment, as he performed there exactly 6 years ago, on December 15, 2004, in the Zodiac show where he sang an amazing version of A Change is Gonna Come. (YouTube vid of that performance for the uninitiated.) Mostly, though, this is awesome because it means a second show glamming and rocking out with my girls!!! *clings*

Second bit of awesomeness: Jerrod Niemann is doing a show in Mesa next month!!! It's been way too damn long since I've seen that boy do his thing. Jerrod's shows are always damn good times! *g* And I'm definitely needing some damn good times right about now! Any AZ peeps up for some country music, a hot dude with a guitar, lots of tequila shots, damn good times or any/all of the above, mark November 21st on your calendar and let me know!

Third awesome thing: Cheeks posted what is probably my favorite It Gets Better video! )

The most awesome thing about today, though, was a serendipitously timely and completely lovely telephone chat with [livejournal.com profile] editorzon! Man, a little perspective, some good advice, an understanding ear and the space to not have to hold it together from a good friend is just the thing to make yummy lemondaide from an otherwise lemon of a day! Thank you, baby! *mwah*

So, yeah, I'm still feeling like roadkill and I still don't have a job, but there were definitely some sparkly silver linings in this day!
Today I wore a purple shirt when I went to the post office; my Twitter and Facebook feeds were awash with purple avatars; across the country people joined together in various ways in support of anti-gay bullying efforts. And yet, just last night in the midst of all this solidarity in purple, anther young man took his life. Obviously, all of the purple in the world is not going to solve this problem.

But, if enough people tell them that it gets better and if enough people work at making it better, then it will get better.

I loved Adam's "It Gets Better" video because not only does he deliver that message, but he also reminds the listener that they each have the power to make it better:

Also, I Aftermath is THE perfect song to accompany this message:
