Around these parts, that seems a little ridiculous given the endless days of 112 or more fucking degree temperatures we've been sweltering through! Argh! Have I mentioned yet how much I hate living in the Arizona desert??? Because, really, from May through October I pretty much despise living here.

Also, court this morning was completely INSANE. Why oh why do we schedule sex offenders with the rest of the calendar when we all KNOW we can't do anything on their cases with the rest of the chain in the courtroom??? *boggles* So, not only was it crazy, it was unproductive too. Which just added to my sun-stroked pissy mood. Grrr.

While I'm on the topic, also pissing me off today: malpractice insurance being so damn expensive; clients that mistake me for their babysitter, their therapist, their personal assistant and/or their mother instead of their lawyer; fandom still reeking of insanity, meanness and hypocrisy; paying more for a gallon of gas than for my venti iced latte; and going on a week with a wicked bout of insomnia.

*mentally shakes self*

But it is Friday, which in itself is happy making. And, despite my pissy mood, there is plenty good to be had in my world. So, enough with the bitchfest, and onward with a FRIDAY HAPPY LIST!!!

  • Baseball!!! Allie!!! D-backs WIN!!! Yesterday afternoon was spent at the ball park with [livejournal.com profile] technosage where we watched the Diamondbacks' win over the A's. Justin Upton finally connected for the winning home run in the 8th.

  • Mmmm...coffee. For reasons that have now been corrected I was sadly deprived of my normal caffeine intake yesterday. So today's 4 shot iced latte tastes even better than it normally does!

  • Tomorrow night I get to pick up [livejournal.com profile] azewewish from the airport and we will then proceed to pack as much ROCKIN' GOOD TIMES as is humanly possible into the subsequent 24-36 hours!!!

  • GEORGE MICHAEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chief among our ROCKIN' GOOD TIMES this weekend will be seeing George Michael in concert Sunday night FROM THE 11TH ROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *flails wildly*

  • Also on the weekend's agenda will be brunch on Sunday followed by "Mongol," which is apparently showing in only one theater in the entire state of Arizona. Grrr. But. With some careful planning I think we can squeeze all of that, plus GEORGE! of course, into our Sunday!!! Rockin' good times, I tell you!

  • Exercise!!! *flexes arms* Trainer!Boy has been sick all week, so I've been on my own. Which is ok, but I have missed our sessions so I'm glad he's feeling better and will be kicking my ass this afternoon!

  • L.A.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next week!!!

Ok. I'm in a MUCH better mood now. *beams* I'll be back later with Foto Friday, for now, though, the "to do" list beckons. Hope everyone's Friday is filled with things that make YOU happy!
Some days I no matter how many phone calls I make or how many emails I send or how many different ways I try to get through the piles of crap on my to do list all I manage to do is spin my wheels and get absolutely nothing done except to get supremely frustrated. Thankfully, this is NOT one of those days. Today I have blazed my way through most of my "to do" list. There is still a trial file in complete disarray on my table just begging for some organization, but other than that everything that I hoped to get done today is done and it's not even 4:30! Today I obviously ROCK!

What doesn't rock, though, is the sad news that there is clear-cut logging decimating the land bordering Diana's Grove. I haven't been able to make it to the Grove this year, and frankly I don't know if I will until after any future move to L.A., but that land is still very much at the heart of my spiritual community. That clearcutting happens at all is tragic, that it's happening around the Grove makes me both unbearably sad and angry. I'm deciding how I can help, but the least I can do is spread the word and hopefully bring some awareness to an important environmental issue.

Gah! Now I need something HAPPY to think about! I know! BASEBALL!!! Tomorrow! Allie and I have tickets to the afternoon D-Backs game, so I'll be playing hooky from the office and going to the ballpark instead! \o/
Ok. Just where in the hell did this week go? *looks around suspiciously*

Work is, as predicted, still kicking my ass. I'm still juggling way too many things and I'm feeling quite overwhelmed and disturbingly unfocused. There's just so much to do that I don't know where to start, so instead I'm just bouncing around ineffectively from one thing to the next. Gah! I'm sure I'll get it together soon enough, just as soon as I can wrestle out a TO DO LIST OF DOOM, but for now crazy and stressful and overwhelming seem to be the way of things.

In better news of the ass-kicking variety: my trainer has done a pretty damn good job of kicking my ass this week. Owie! There is much upper body soreness happening today. But it's a well-earned soreness, so I don't really mind it. In fact, I'm glad for it. Also glad for the added boxing training we've been doing as it's better than therapy for exorcising the week's yuckiness. Plus it makes me feel FIERCE. Fear me. *g* Trainer!Boy will be back for more of the ass-kicking tomorrow. \o/ Have I mentioned how much I love having my trainer come to me? It's completely made of WIN!

Once this week is actually over, I'll be heading down to Tucson on Saturday to catch the X show with [livejournal.com profile] hewet_ka_ptah. I haven't seen Deb in FOREVER, so there will be much catching up and talking and laughing and rockin' out and GOOD TIMES!!! \o/
I'm really supposed to be working, but I seem to have misplaced my motivation. So how 'bout some quick bullet points on the day?

  • I'm feeling good better almost human today! I think I am finally gaining the upper hand on the plague! \o/

  • Monday's aren't so bad when they start with a good amount of flirting with Mr. Hot Court Security Man. There may have been slightly unprofessional comments about his wand involved. What??? That persnickety security machine BEEPS at me every. damn. day. Which, you know, is not so bad if I get to be, ahem, wanded by Mr. Hot Court Security Man. *g*

  • I'm implementing a new policy for my law practice, and I think I need to print it on my business cards, just so that it's clear: If I have at any time fucked you, please do not be asking me to handle your divorce. Thank you for your consideration. The Management. Seriously. This comes up more often than I had ever anticipated. Three times in the past six months. WTF. o_o

  • HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!!! Everyone realizes that no one in Mexico, outside of Puebla, actually celebrates this day, right? Irrelevant historical and cultural details aside, I'm going to have dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant with the familia. There shall be yummy food and plenty of margaritas!!! Mmmmm...margaritas.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday!!!
I really wanted to choke all of my clients this morning. First, I get a call at 6:30 in the freakin' morning from one client informing me that she won't be in court because she's on the way to the ER with her kid. Ok. These things happen. I can explain all this to the court and probably get a continuance. But I'm really ill-equipped to deal with a hysterical, pregnant mom with a sick kid on the way to the ER who is convinced that she's going to be arrested in the hospital waiting room before I've had any coffee. Then I had a morning full of whiny clients with huge entitlement issues who are convinced that it's my job to make their every wish and want materialize because apparently they think I'm their fairy godmother instead of their criminal defense attorney! They're all damn lucky I didn't stab them with my magic wand pen!

Ok. Now that I've got that out of my system, on to happier things! Like BASEBALL!!! [livejournal.com profile] technosage and I went to our first game of the regular season last night to see the Diamondbacks take on the Dodgers. The D-backs won, 10-5. It was awesome to see Doug Davis pitch such a strong game on his last outing before undergoing surgery for thyroid cancer tomorrow. What a trooper, man. Hopefully his recovery will be a speedy one and we'll see him on the mound again later in the season.

Also awesome were our seats along the first base line in a section of the ballpark where we had wait service!!! Seriously! What's more awesome than a baseball game where a waiter brings your beer and nachos to your seat??? I can think of very little more awesome than that, except maybe if the waiters were hot and shirtless. *nods* There was also plenty of eye candy courtesy of one Conor Jackson on first base. Damn that boy is pretty. And, as Allie so artfully puts it, he's prodigiously furnished as well. *g* In sum, the evening was made of awesome and we had a blast!

In other happy flavored news, I'm currently busy packing because tomorrow morning I'll be heading to California for three harrowing fun-filled days at Disneyland with my niece, Rianna, and her cousin, Carissa. Thankfully, my mom is coming with me to help me run herd over the little ones. I happen to be one of those adults who really love Disneyland, so I'm actually looking forward to this trip. But I've also done this with Rianna before so I know exactly how EXHAUSTING all this fun will be! [livejournal.com profile] azewewish will be joining us at Disneyland on Saturday and on Sunday we'll be meeting up with Brenda and [livejournal.com profile] coolwhipdiva for the Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues. It's my mom's birthday on Sunday, so I think the Gospel Brunch will be a fun way to celebrate. So, a fun and busy weekend ahead! Yay!!!
Thank the gods, my motion for a continuance was granted and my Trial From Hell rescheduled until the first week of April!!! This makes my trial schedule for the next two months actually manageable. *big sigh*

Also, it may be slightly professionally inappropriate, but my new work icon makes me laugh. *g*
Man. Why do we even bother with this day? Seriously. Wouldn't the calendar be much more pleasant if we fired Mondays and instead had...oh, I don't know. Some other day that wouldn't involve a full day of work. Maybe a transition day from weekend to work week that involved only a few hours telecommuting in the early afternoon so that you could sleep in and work could be done in your PJs! This type of Modified Monday could work for me. *nods*

Alas. No Modified Monday for me. Instead I was at the office at 6:30 IN THE OMG SO FUCKING EARLY MORNING! *rubs sleep from eyes* Then it was to court. Again. And annoying clients who seem to forget that I was the one who went to law school, while they were the ones who broke the damn law. Therefore, the legal strategies are MINE to make. *grumbles* And, if that wasn't enough to make this Monday completely sucktastic. I somehow managed, while sitting at my desk and not engaging in any obviously dangerous activity, to SLICE MY FINGER OPEN. It bled all over my laptop and my files. And it hurt! Ouch! It's finally stopped bleeding and I have it bandaged, but trying to type with 9 fingers is no fun at all.

So, yeah. If I could, I'd fire this damn day.

But the weekend? The weekend is a keeper! Saturday was spent in a whirlwind of activity getting ready for a surprise 60th birthday party for my aunt. The surprise was a success. As was the party, which involved lots of yummy food, loud music, more alcohol than was probably wise, and about two dozen of assorted family members crammed into my living room watching ASU take Cal and Game 3 of the World Series.

After all the cleaning and cooking for the party and then the party itself with the drinking and the late night, yesterday was purposefully lazy. My brother and my niece came over and we spent endless hours watching sports on television. Unfortunately, my brother does not have the same appreciation for Tom Brady's ass as I do. So, my frequent exclamations over the perfectness of said ass were not well received. My niece, though, will grow up with a much more developed appreciation of both the game and, ahem, the players' talents. I consider it my duty as Aunt. *nods*

Also, kudos to the Boston Red Sox!!! It may not have been much of a series, but Game 4 sure as hell turned into a good game. Speaking of that win, has Papelbon reprised his riverdance yet? Someone needs to point me to that video when it happens. *g*

So, where were we? Monday sucks. Check. The weekend rocked. Check. The week ahead? There's work. But there's always work. The GOOD NEWS for this week is that on Sunday [livejournal.com profile] technosage and I are heading to L.A. for some time with the Hookers and to catch Steve Carlson and Jason Manns play!!! YAY!!! \o/ I'm thinking that if we time our drive right we can be in L.A. in time to watch the Patriots/Colts game. Again...YAY!!!

Anything else? Oh, yes. Apparently the weekend involved some wank and some more wank about the wank. *shakes head* It's strangely comforting that fandom will always involve some element of CRAZYCAKES. You know, kinda like that one family member who's on crack or perving on the teenage cousins or who forgot to take his meds and is in the corner talking to his spoon? Absolutely INSANE, but the family just wouldn't be the same without him. Then again, maybe it's just MY FAMILY that has this kind of crazy. *facepalm* Anyway, my point is, I think, that fandom just wouldn't be the same without the CRAZY. *g*
Seriously. This week? Where has it gone? Not that I'm going to complain too much, because as weeks go, this one's kinda been a bitch.

Work has sort of been kicking my ass lately. I've been in court EVERY DAY since I got back from L.A. and Nashville last week. Early morning court days are exhausting. And several in a row? Completely do me in. I think I've managed to fix things, though, so that I don't have to come in to the office tomorrow. \o/

Friday off is a very good thing, indeed, as I'm hosting this family shindig on Saturday and I've done absolutely nothing to prepare. Yikes! I will be a mad woman, for sure, with the cleaning and the shopping and the cooking all day tomorrow. Anyone want to come over on Saturday for carne asada and margaritas? :D

What else? Ah, yes. Beer and Pool Night last night, sadly, involved no pool. I blame it on the sucktasticness of the week. But it did involve beer and mango shrimp tacos and baseball, of course, Allie! It also involved Very Important Discussions with [livejournal.com profile] technosage about Steve/Chad in Break Loose! *bounces* This idea makes me ridiculously happy! So much so that I had to go find me some Chad icons to encourage her in this endeavor! *points to the pretty icon*

Also, while I'm not sure how it happened, it is Thursday!!! I think we could all use some Hot Ass Winchesters to salt and burn this hellish week. Right?
Ugh. Work is kicking my ass. These judges have no regard for the fact that I'm exhausted from all the fun-making and quite possibly picked up some sort of crud on my many travels. Inconsiderate bastards still make me get up freakin' early to be in court every damn day and they expect coherent arguments and preparedness. *kicks them all*

On the plus side, it is already Thursday, so there shall be Winchester Boys tonight!!! \o/
This day has been the longest Wednesday ever. I had to get up disturbingly early in order to be at court first thing. Then I spent the rest of the day bouncing from jail to jail visiting clients. I think I hit every holding facility in the county except for two (which I get to visit on Friday). \o/

Jail visitation days just take it out of me. You have to wait forever as you jump through a million security hoops; the local sheriff doesn't believe in appropriate air conditioning for his charges even though we live in hell, so the jails are oppressively hot; and it's just depressing to spend the entire day within cement walls, talking to people who are generally hopeless, and being escorted around by staff who is almost always surly. Also, for the record, NO ONE who isn't either Jensen Ackles or Jared Padalecki looks good in inmate garb. I'm just sayin'. So, yes. A very long day. And it'll be even longer yet, as I've just now made it back to the office to tackle a couple hour's worth of paper work.

So, in an attempt to drag myself back into a good mood after a long and craptastic day, I'm making a Happy List.

The Happy. )

So, flist o'mine, what is your Happy on this Hump Day?

ETA: Pictorial assistance added for those of you unfamiliar with the hotness musical talent of Alejandro Fernandez. And also because these make me HAPPY.

I'm going to have to completely revise my opinion of my secretary. Most of you have probably heard me bitch about her -- about how she doesn't like me because I don't usually have much for her to do and how she is annoyingly passive aggressive and ridiculously insecure about "her" people getting along with any of the other support staff.

Yeah. Well all that's still pretty much true.

But, it doesn't matter anymore, 'cause now I have a reason to LOVE HER....she's a rabid Supernatural fan!!!!

She just came into my office and noticed my Supernatural mug on my desk (which she previously hadn't noticed due to the massive amounts of crap work also on my desk). But, yeah, she noticed and grabbed it up and hugged it to her chest and went on and on about how much she loves the show and loves Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki (she even knew their names!) and loves Dean and Sam and how she records it every week. And, yeah, my snarky secretary and I BONDED over Supernatural. It was a touching moment.

But, even though I may have to like her now that we share the Supernatural love....she doesn't write angsty, hot, brother sex, so I still need to figure out how to become rich and powerful so that I can hire [livejournal.com profile] mona1347 as my legal secretary personal porn writer.
I get particularly annoyed when someone says "I need this by such and such a date," and then they neglect to inform me that they will, in fact, be out of the office and won't even read what I give them until three days later. It would save me a great deal of stress and frustration if you would consult with your travel calendar before setting my deadlines.
