The crazy thing here isn't that this was my second show of this tour. Nor is it the ridiculous amount of money I was willing to spend on good seats for this show. Or the lengths I was willing to go to in order to get my hands on meet and greet passes. No. The crazy thing is that the show was in Kansas City. Missouri. Kansas City fucking Missouri. I, on the other hand, live in Phoenix, Arizona. Which is to say, I flew half way across the country to see Adam Lambert perform a 20 minute set. My life! I'm obviously not the only one who has lost my mind, though, because it didn't take much to convince
_lisalisa_ to join me in my madness! (Thank you, bb! I had a blast with you this weekend! *mwah*)
The weekend was a blast! In short: Kris was a tiny bundle of hotness, Matt was charming, and Adam was fabulous.
Adam beckons you in to read the details!

Pre-Show M&G.
The pre-show meet and greet was an exercise in awkwardness. Seriously, I feel so bad that the Idols have to go through that before every show! Basically, after going through security and a whole list of do's and dont's (mostly dont's), we were herded into a room where all the Idols were seated behind a table. There was a stack of group photos in front of the first person (on Sunday, it was Scott); each Idol signed it and passed it on, while the group filed in front of them with no opportunity to actually do anything that remotely resembled "meeting or greeting." Awkward! You're not even handing them anything to sign, so that you can at least pause in front of each of them. It was repeatedly stressed that you could only have one item signed -- except that they're controlling the one item, so you can literally go through that process and have no exchange with any of them at all.
Thankfully, I'm a firm believer that, at least for the reasonably intelligent person with a modicum of good sense, rules should really be more like guidelines. So, while I had said a brief "hello" and "thank you" to Scott and Danny, when I got to Adam I introduced myself and asked if he'd mind signing my Rolling Stone magazine instead. Which is when he looked up, flashed a huge smile, said "hey, I love your tattoo," and basically made my life! *laughs* He said something about liking the colors and the "swirlies," but it's hard to remember exactly because he was smiling and it's difficult to think when that's happening! Lisa assures me, though, that I made relatively intelligent small talk and said thank you and didn't embarrass myself despite the lack of actual brain activity! He was super sweet and gracious and his smile is blinding and hugely distracting in person!
There were quick, awkward hellos to Michael and Anoop, while they signed and passed, signed and passed, signed and passed. Matt, though, was laughing and chatty and somehow we started talking about the fact that I was there from Arizona and the Glendale show, and he thanked me for coming out to see them again, and, truth be told, I was completely charmed. *g* By this time I had dared to slow the Procession of Ultimate Awkwardness by actually meeting and/or greeting two of the Idols, and the handler at the end of the table was impatiently holding out my signed group photo for me, so I barely managed a quick hello to Kris and the girls, before we were ushered right back out of the room. The whole thing was this really strange and disorienting combination of AWKWARD! and AWESOME!
Here's a shot of the Procession of Ultimate Awkwardness, otherwise known as the Pre-show Meet and Greet (click thumbnails for full-size, high-resolution versions):

At this point, we decided that we needed alcohol to help us deal with the combined effect of the horrible awkwardness and absolute glee of that meet and greet, so we went across the street and got our drink on. Alcoholic fortification was a good thing, because about an hour and a half later when we went back to pick up our tickets and after show passes, we noticed that the Westoboro Baptist wackadoodle protesters were out with their disgusting, hate-filled signs. They had kids out there, spouting their hate. Who does that??? Thankfully, their numbers were small and for the most part it seemed as if people were purposefully ignoring them. And while the hatefulness of it all literally turned my stomach, in the end I could only think how pathetic they were. So sorry for their life.
The Show.
Anyway. The show. We had great seats, on the floor, third row, stage right. Our area of the floor was basically on its feet for the entire show. I don't think that was the case everywhere in the arena, but it was hard to tell for sure. The vibe was definitely different from the Glendale show. The energy level just seemed less intense. Regardless, I had a great time. Lisa and I were on our feet, dancing and rocking out for the entire show (Danny's set excluded, as it made for a perfect bathroom/rest our feet break). Also, I was highly entertained by this really young, really adorable gay boy in the first row who was obviously having the time of his life -- his glee was infectious, so whatever else was happening in the arena we were having a good time.
I thought that almost all of the Idols had improved since the beginning of the tour. They just seemed more relaxed and easy on stage. I was again impressed with Michael, who has the toughest job of them all opening the show.

Megan's hair was a hot mess. Seriously, who the hell is making her styling decisions??? She was probably my least favorite, just because she really doesn't seem to be having fun up there. But her ink is pretty and bedazzled!

Scott needs to change his schtick up a bit, because it's considerably less amusing the second time you hear it. But, other than that, he did a good job.

I didn't get any pictures of Lil because we made a beer run during her set. What? Priorities, man! She sounded pretty good, though. Better, I think, than during the earlier part of the tour.
I thought Anoop was really good. Better than the Glendale show. He just seemed much more at ease, his dancing was smoother, and it just looked as if he was having more fun than when I first saw him. Also, I think I mentioned this last time, but he's unexpectedly hot. But the best part of Anoop's set was watching Young, Adorable Gay Boy sing and dance along to My Prerogative. He was rockin' it! So cute!

Matt was on fire! He's an amazing musician. And, even more, he just really seems to bring it every time, just rocks out full throttle on every performance. Awesome energy, amazing piano, and great vocals. Why isn't this kid signed yet???

A few shots from the group number:

Despite an initial issue with the mic (there were multiple technical difficulties during this show), Allison rocked the hell outa it! She is just a firecracker, man. I really can't wait for another 5 or 10 years when she really figures out how to work all that innate sexuality. In the meantime, I just feel like a perv. *g*

And then there was Adam. He had definitely changed things a just a little bit since the Glendale show. He was singing at a lower register and didn't hit as many high notes, which only makes sense when having to do so many shows. There was all the thrusting and mic jacking that we've come to expect with Whole Lotta Love. I think I heard the woman in front of me audibly gasp when he straddled and jacked off his mic stand. Luckily she was already seated in a wheel chair, otherwise I would have worried for her ability to remain standing! Even after all the repeated performances, Mad World is still hauntingly beautiful, Starlight still blew me away and is probably my favorite number, and he just kills that Bowie medley. He and Allison were fantastic during Slow Ride and they definitely have that groove down. Plus, they are just adorable together; at one point he draped his arm around her while they sang and then led her out in several turns. Too cute!
I was again completely blown away by him. I think I've run out of adjectives to describe him. He is simply breathtaking on stage. No one owns that stage the way he does. A.MAZ.ING. I cannot wait until he's touring his own material.
I didn't take as many pictures this time as I did at the Glendale show, because I really just wanted to enjoy the performance, but here are some of the better ones:

Kris was fantastic! He has gotten so much more comfortable on that stage! They had a slight malfunction with the curtain and stage hands had to run on stage to manually rip it down. After the show Kris said that he was cracking up about it during the rest of his set. So, he's obviously more at ease and not easily flustered by the whole thing. Also, I think his pants have gotten tighter in relatively the same proportion has his shirts have become increasingly more unbuttoned. I approve!

(All of the pictures can be found in high-res, along with a whole bunch more that I didn't post, [here]. Feel free to use and enjoy as you will!)
After-show Meet and Greet.
So after the show, we were shown backstage to what was some kind of locker area, where the Idols were already out of their stage clothes and gathered. Adam was swamped with people, so we decided to talk to Kris first. What a sweetheart! We chatted a bit, told him that I thought his set was amazing, even better than Glendale, and that I was looking forward to his solo material. He was completely gracious and charming and laughed about the curtain fiasco. He signed some of the pictures that I had taken at the Glendale show and laughed at one of them because he said he looked really happy in the picture! Just an adorable guy! And hot. Dear heavens, Kris has this sort of stealth hotness that just sneaks up on you unexpectedly. He's pocked sized alright, but he's a tiny bundle of hotness!

After talking to Kris, Adam still had a sizable crowd around him, but Lisa was afraid he was going to vanish or be whisked away, so we made our way over to him. There was a little girl who had consumed entirely too much sugar in front of us. I think the handler was afraid that she was going to bounce off of Adam and injure someone, so he came over to move the hyper child and her entirely unhelpful mother along. Adam, though, was a complete doll. Once the bouncing child had bounced away, I introduced myself again and we chatted for a bit about the show and his upcoming CD, which, by the way, he confirmed would be dropping November 24th. (I can't wait!!!) He signed the picture in my icon from the Glendale show, and we took some pictures. We couldn't chat for long because he still had a lot of people to get to and we probably should have waited closer to the end of the line to not be as rushed, but he was absolutely charming and gracious and I cannot wait to see what he's going to do with his music!

Once we had talked to Adam, we realized that all the other Idols except for Matt and Kris were gone, so I didn't get to tell Allison how cool I thought she was. But we did get a chance to get a picture with Matt. He remembered that I was from Arizona, and he was again completely charming.

The weekend was a blast and completely worth all the crazy lengths we went to in order to make it happen!
