Jensen Weekend ROCKED!

The weekend fantastic and is, sadly, now over. I got home late last night and was frankly too wiped to do much more than fall in to bed. Today was busy with wrapping things up at the firm, making my way through my mile-long to do list, and enjoying an extended lunch with
technosage and
annkiri (OMG! 4 hours flew by before I knew it -- but, as always, I had a great time girls -- thanks!). So, I'm just now getting around to updating everyone on the Jensen Weekend festivities.
hewet_ka_ptah and I arrived in Fort Worth on Friday afternoon. We successfully navigated our way out of the airport and to our downtown hotel. After getting something to eat, wandering around downtown for a while, and then hanging out a bit in the room, we proceeded with The Alcohol and Gay Porn Plan that I mentioned on Friday. And, I've got to say, this was one of the finest plans ever. The alcohol half of the plan had us hitting a great club with the Best. 80s. Cover. Band. We drank, a lot, and geeked out to The Music of Our Youth, a lot. And it was good, my friends. It was very, very good. Somewhere around 1 a.m., we decided we needed more food to go with all the alcohol, so we went to Bennigan's for appetizers and long island ice teas (which we hoped would sustain the buzz through the gay porn still on the agenda).
We headed back to the room, and introduced
hewet_ka_ptah to the joy of gay porn. (For those of you that missed the Friday's update, I learned that she had somehow never watched gay porn, and I set about to correct this travesty with the aforementioned Alcohol and Gay Porn Plan.) I kept having her turn up the volume because she really needed to hear the wonderful dirty talk in this particular video, so we may have traumatized our neighbors with the loud porn, especially if they were part of the "Follow the Christ" convention contingent.
Unfortunately, between the early wake up call and the large amount of alcohol consumed,
hewet_ka_ptah passed out on me before I was able to read her the slash that was next on the agenda. I've promised her a rec list, though, so if you have a Sam/Dean or Jared/Jensen fic that you think is a "can't miss" read, let me know and we'll get her properly versed in SPN slash.
Saturday we slept in late and forewent any plans for sight-seeing in favor of rest and advil.
wrenlet got in to town with enough time for a very quick lunch before she had to head off for the matinee performance. (For the record, I LOVE
wrenlet! Love her like chocolate milk! I had such a fabulous time hanging out with her all weekend!) So, ahem. Yes. Lunch. And then? Lunch again! Just after sending
wrenlet off to Jensen,
wendy,
txtequilanights,
phaballa, and
arielchan arrived, so we sat down with them while they had lunch. It was good to meet everyone, and, of course, to see
wendy again.
After lunch,
hewet_ka_ptah and I made an alcohol run so that we'd be adequately provisioned for after the show. Provisioned we were. We had enough alcohol to ... well, to get many fangirls very, very drunk.
As we were getting ready for the show, we learned that
brynwulf had missed her flight. She, however, obviously has hidden superpowers, because she was somehow able to bend space and time (or, possibly, catch a later flight) and make it to the theater several minutes before the show started. So, while
brynwulf was using her super powers to get to the show on time,
hewet_ka_ptah,
wrenlet and I had a fabulous Tex-Mex dinner and then made our way to the theater. At the theater there were more fangirls to meet, more than I can remember now. But it was particularly wonderful to run into
unperfectwolf again and to meet
coolwhipdiva. I wish I had more time to chat with
coolwhipdiva because she struck me as sharp in all the best of ways, but there simply wasn't enough time and our paths didn't cross after the show. Ah, well. Perhaps another time.
The show. Wow. Seriously, I don't think I can adequately express how much I loved the show. Obviously, we were all there because Jensen Ackles was performing. And while his performance was truly outstanding, there was so much more to love about this production. The set design was brilliant in its simplicity; the light design was perfect; the acting, all of it, was amazing. Everyone delivered rich, layered performances. Jensen and Lou Diamond Phillips OWNED those roles, made them fresh, and compelling, and completely theirs. I didn't hear any echoes of the movie in what they brought to the stage.
Plus, it was A Few Good Men. Dense, smart Sorkin dialog; court room drama at its best. I was in geeky lawyer HEAVEN! Even better: it was Jensen Ackles playing a defense lawyer, talking rules of evidence, cross-examining witnesses. My fannish obsession and my professional experience as a defense attorney collided in two hours and forty five minutes of BLISS!
So, yes, in sum: loved Jensen, loved Lou Diamond Phillips, loved all the wonderful actors, loved everything about this production. LOVED. THE. SHOW.
We, thankfully, skipped the whole stage door thing in favor of food and alcohol (fangirls we may be, but we obviously have our priorities!). Although I understand that Jensen did go out sign autographs that night, which is cool. Stocked with tons of alcohol and just about every appetizer on Chili's menu, we headed back to the room where
hewet_ka_ptah,
wrenlet,
brynwulf,
annkiri and Amy, her lovely younger sister,
wendy,
txtequilanights,
phaballa,
arielchan and I hung out, drank, ate, and talked all kinds of fannish talk. Good times.
I obviously didn't make the trek in to Dallas to hear Jason Manns play. I simply wasn't up to that much driving. Jason Manns has a place of honor, though, on my List of Music That Makes Me Exceedingly Happy (Yes, I really do have a playlist so named). So, I'm fairly certain that I'll have to plan a trip to L.A. soon to hear him play. Yes. This will definitely have to happen.
I am very glad that I screwed up my ticket purchase and inadvertently had tickets for Sunday's matinee as well. We grabbed lunch with
annkiri, Amy, and
traffic_west. A lovely lunch with lovely people! *smishes
annkiri* Then it was back to the theater. Both times we had great seats. We were in the first row on Saturday night and in the second row on Sunday afternoon. But on Sunday we were able to see the show from the other side of the stage, so it was great to see some of the action and facial expressions that we missed the night before. If possible, I loved Sunday's performance even more!
After the show, we said our good-byes to
annkiri and Amy and headed to the airport. By the time we got to the gate, I was done for, completely exhausted. But the weekend was fantastic, and it was wonderful beyond words to have shared it with
hewet_ka_ptah. *loves*
In sum: Jensen Weekend ROCKED.
Now, I'm off to catch up on my flist before getting back to my mile-long to do list.

I didn't know you liked 80's cover bands! There's a terrific one called Shirley's Temple that my mom took me to see at the Skeptical Chemist in Scottsdale (faboo Irish pub) & I danced many muscles into pain. And I'm willing to do it again! ;-)
