So, apparently all I need as incentive to be amazingly productive is Steve. *g* Because I got SO much work done yesterday. Er, maybe that was Tuesday. Whatever. That fuckton of work I had to do? Done.

Which meant that I did in fact hop a plane this morning -- yesterday morning -- to Austin where I spent a lovely afternoon hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] annkiri. We had a great dinner and then headed to a strange little place called The Blind Pig where both Steve and Alligator Dave from the other night were playing. Alas, Alligator Dave was there sans Hot Drummer Guy. *sadface* But he was still freakin' hilarious. I think we're gonna keep him. *g*

Steve went on next. It was definitely a different vibe than Dallas. It was obvious that very few people were there specifically to see either of the performers, and Steve looked considerably less at ease. Still, it was a good show. He did far more covers than he normally does, several of which I hadn't heard him do before -- Nina Simone's "Turn Me On" and U2's "Running to Stand Still" are the two I'm remembering right now. Both of which he sounded amazing on. I think he was doing more covers because there were so few people there that new his music -- he kept saying stuff like "no one wants to hear original stuff." Silly boy. Anyway. Good show.

Afterward we were chatting a bit because [livejournal.com profile] annkiri wanted to buy some CDs. While we were standing in front of the stage talking to him, some idiot Drunk!Dude went up on stage, grabbed his guitar, and started messing with it. We were outraged for him and he didn't quite seem to know what to do until both me and this other guy sort of spoke up and told Drunk!Dude to put the damn thing down, which is when Steve went up and rescued his guitar. Thankfully, Drunk!Dude's girlfriend showed up about then and took him away. But, seriously? Who does that? Just go on stage and start fiddling with someone's guitar? *shakes head*

Ok. That was more of a tangent than I had planned. I'm obviously tired. The point here was that Steve, as always, gave an awesome performance. And that some people are too dumb to live.

But, yes, tired. That's me. It's 3:15 a.m. and I have to be heading to the airport in about 3 hours in order to catch a flight to Phoenix, where I'll go home, switch bags, and head back to the airport to fly to L.A. *groans*

But then? WinCon!!!! Tomorrow afternoon I shall be arriving in L.A. ready to meet other fannish folk, squee together, get blindingly drunk, embarrass myself at karaoke, distribute and receive many hugs, and generally have a fabulous time!!! \o/
OMG. I'm so very hungover. Even more tragically, I'm hungover and unable to sleep. It's patently unfair to have to be conscious while my head feels as if it might explode. *groans*

But, before the hangover there were some incredibly good times had in Dallas! [livejournal.com profile] annkiri, two of her lovely friends, [livejournal.com profile] wendy, [livejournal.com profile] wrenlet, [livejournal.com profile] technosage and I had a fabulous time at The City Tavern last night. We got there around 9, after having had appetizers and pre-drinking drinks in the room while we got ourselves ready. There were two others, besides Steve, scheduled to play, and no one seemed to know in what order they'd be playing, so we went early to be safe.

The first group to play was kinda adorable in that they were sort of the ultimate nerd band. They weren't half bad musicians either, but their cute factor definitely came from the massive geek vibe they had going on. [livejournal.com profile] wendy was smitten and may just be planning to stalk them; from a discreet distance, of course. *g*

By the time the cute geek boys were done with their set, I was well on my way to pretty damn drunk. I can't be sure, but I suspect that I wasn't the only one. Also, I had a substantial eye fuck thing going on with Hot Guy from the next table, who kinda made me love him forever when he came over to tell me he thought I was, in his words, gorgeous. Yeah. I'm just that easy. Whatever.

So, Steve went on after the geek boys, and he was, as is to be expected, fucking fabulous. There's no way I'm going to remember his entire set list because, as already mentioned, there was some alcohol involved. But he opened with "Wasted Jaime" (is it just me, or would those lyrics make a hell of a lot more sense if you were stoned?), he also did "Hummingbird Billy," "If it Ain't Easy," "Piñata Novia," "You Belong With Me," "Dynamite," "Hotel Love," "The One that Got Away," and his cover of "Miss You" (which I kinda love). There were others, but, frankly, I'm surprised I remembered this much. I do remember, though, that he ROCKED and that we all had a fabulous time. Also, [livejournal.com profile] azewewish, hellos were delivered to which he replied, "awwwww, that was really nice." *g*

So, after Steve's set, [livejournal.com profile] wendy, [livejournal.com profile] wrenlet and I stuck around to hear the last guy, Alligator Dave, play. Which I'm really glad we did because he was fucking hilarious. But before I get to that, imagine my delight when Hot Guy with the ego-boosting compliments turns out to be the percussionist/fiddler/funny as hell side-kick. *g* So, this Alligator Dave person? Funniest. Damn. Thing. EVAR. Gods, I haven't laughed that hard in a really long damn time. Seriously. Go listen to the stuff on his MySpace. And then imagine it live, with both musicians and audience alike completely drunk. Add the worst, but most awesome, dancing, again, by both musicians and audience. And if you're not laughing...well then you're obviously not as drunk as we were.

After the hilarity, Steve came back on stage with Alligator Dave and Hot Guy and the nerdy drummer boy from earlier, and he did several more songs, something like an abbreviated version of Drunken Rockstar Karaoke. It was great! \o/

They didn't stop playing until well after 1:00 a.m. After which I chatted with Hot Guy. Who, incidentally, did give me his name, at least three times, and his myspace page, also numerous times, but which I was too damn drunk to remember. *facepalm* Then Wendy, Wrenlet, and I made our way out and back to the hotel for good-byes and hugs and plans to see each other next week at WinCon!!! (By the way, thank you both for partying like rockstars with me to the very end! I had a fabulous time!)

So, yes, hangover notwithstanding, Dallas definitely WINS!
My calendar says that this is it! That Thursday, the Thursday, is OMG finally HERE!!! I know there's a part of my flist looking at me askance wondering what could possibly be special about this Thursday as compared to any other random Thursday. But believe me when I tell you, oh unbelieving flisters, that this Thursday is a most auspicious Thursday indeed.

This is the Thursday of the Supernatural Season 3 premier. This is the Thursday of Sam and Dean and crossroad pacts and jobs to do and demons to kill and brothers to save and one year in which to do it all. And it all finally starts tonight!

*throws confetti*

Speaking of our boys, I hear that they made an early appearance on iTunes by way of a free download of the season premier. I didn't download, although I still might later today on my other laptop, just to add another number. But I don't plan on watching it until tonight, on the big, pretty t.v., because I like my boys big and pretty. Ahem. Or something like that.

So, let's see. What other Thursday Things are there to speak of on this O Most Holy of Thursdays?

- Ah, yes. Last night was Beer & Pool Night with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] technosage. I'm not sure what was wrong with us, but for whatever reason the pool half of Beer & Pool Night was disastrous. *facepalm* Gods it was bad. We couldn't sink anything. And, really, we're just damn lucky we wrapped up four games without injuring ourselves. Seriously. That bad. But the beer half of Beer & Pool Night, I'm happy to say, was a resounding success. \o/

- The D-Backs took their first game against the Cubs last night! Go home team!

- Tomorrow Allie and I fly to Dallas! There we shall get to see [livejournal.com profile] annkiri, [livejournal.com profile] wendy, and [livejournal.com profile] wrenlet! There is sure to be much fannish chatter and squee over tonight's premier! And much anticipatory delight about WinCon next week! After which we will all be heading to The City Tavern to hear Steve Carlson play! Seriously. Does a Friday night get better than that?

- Speaking of Allie, and Steve, and, well, Chris (what? the train of thought was perfectly logical in my head!)...if you are a fan of [livejournal.com profile] technosage's Break Loose Ranch then you'll want to read her latest, that triangular circular love thing. It's Christian Kane and his boys, and there's something magical about it. Her Break Loose Chris's voice is so distinctive and consistent, and the writing is lyrical with strong emotion and a musical cadence that makes it easy to imagine Christian singing the words. In short, it's lovely. Go read, you'll see.

- Finally, IT'S SEASON 3 PREMIER THURSDAY!!! So much glee! Speaking of premier-related glee, [livejournal.com profile] wendy is throwing a little squee-fest. Par-tay at Wendy's place!!! \o/
Ok. Who the hell has absconded with the entire fucking month of September??? While we're on the subject, where the hell did August go? *looks suspiciously at calendar*

I really have no idea what happened to the last couple of months. But apparently we're heading in to October. Like tomorrow. *boggles*

So, while I scramble to get work done while time seems to be on hyper-drive (I'm expecting at least three, maybe four, trials before the end of the year *facepalm*), here are some shiny things about it (almost) being October:

  • Supernatural!!! Season 3, baybee! Thursday. Hiatus finally comes to an end. \o/

  • Dallas!!! On Friday!!! With [livejournal.com profile] technosage!!! Hangin' with [livejournal.com profile] annkiri, [livejournal.com profile] wendy, and [livejournal.com profile] wrenlet!!! Another Steve show!!!

Ahem. Ok. I'll stop with the abuse of the exclamation point. But, yes. Friday. Dallas. Good friends. Good music. Good times.

  • Friday Night Lights!!! Thanks to several of you on my flist, I have a new t.v. obsession. Which, incidentally, I needed like I needed a hole in the head. But whatever. Too late now. I'm hooked.

Unfortunately, the new season starts on Friday. And, if you were able to read between the exclamation points above, you know I won't be home sitting in front of my t.v. enraptured by Coach Taylor, or Riggins, or even adorable Matt on Friday. I do, however, have a date with my t.v. and the Panthers on Saturday. *twirls*

  • Then next week...heading back to L.A. for WinCon! I have no point of reference for what that'll be like. But I'm assured that there will be plenty of alcohol, which is always a good start. Plus, there are tons of folks who I can't wait to see again and/or finally meet. I'm expecting to be highly amused and delighted by all of you, which I imagine will be helped along by the profusion of alcohol. :D

  • And immediately following WinCon, in case there was any residual doubt as to combined force of our insanity, Allie and I are headed on a crazy turn-around trip to Nashville where [livejournal.com profile] way2busymom will be unceremoniously dragged in to the vortex of our crazy join us for yet another Steve show!

And that's just the first couple of weeks of October. Sometime in late October there will also be a big family party thing that I'm supposed to be co-hosting. I guess I should probably get on that. Or at least figure out when that's supposed to happen. *nods* Yeah. That would probably be a good idea.

I had also hoped to get to the Grove once more this year, but I don't think that's going to happen, unless it's for closing weekend in November. The better plan would probably be to wait and instead plan on being there for opening weekend in January. I'm still seriously considering IPP next year, which will mean several more visits to the Grove than I've managed the past two years.

But now I'm getting ahead of myself. I was looking at the October shiny. Which there is a lot of. And, if my schedule for October is any indication, explains why time has just been flying by lately. So, unless someone wants to give September back, let's get on with the fun and games of October! \o/
I'm home. Finally.

I'm tired. Very.

But OMG I had a great time in L.A.!

Last night we had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] coiledsoul and [livejournal.com profile] onelittlesleep. I always enjoy putting a face and a full(er) personality to the folks who inhabit my flist. So, thanks, ladies, for the tacos, tequila, and porny conversation!

And thank you, too, for being our designated drivers. I'm not sure I would have managed to even find Hotel Cafe on my own. :)

Steve's show was again fantastic. I really liked hearing him with play with the band. The guys who play with him are great musicians and it's always fun to watch people do something that they so obviously enjoy doing.

And while I loved getting to hear Steve play again, at least equally fantastic was hanging out with the L.A. chicas again!

[livejournal.com profile] azewewish, [livejournal.com profile] editorzon, [livejournal.com profile] sabrinagb, [livejournal.com profile] without_me, [livejournal.com profile] aproposofnothin, [livejournal.com profile] fergus80, [livejournal.com profile] idiosyncratic and [livejournal.com profile] coolwhipdiva (who was missed last night!): I absolutely LOVED hanging out with all of you! Thank you so much for being so FANTASTIC and just plain FUN, and welcoming me into the Hooker ranks! Y'all seriously ROCK!!!

You know who else seriously ROCKS? [livejournal.com profile] technosage that's who. It was such a blast to do the Thelma-and-Louise-esqe road trip with her. She's AWESOME! :D

Seriously, though, with all the drinking and partying and great music, the absolute best part of this mini "working" vacation (which, unsurprisingly, contained almost no work at all) was time spent with some of the most FANTABULOUS FRIENDS EVAR! *blows kisses*
Last night was so much fun!!! The good times started with [livejournal.com profile] technosage and I enjoying appetizers and the awesome company of the L.A. girls. [livejournal.com profile] coolwhipdiva, [livejournal.com profile] azewewish, [livejournal.com profile] editorzon, [livejournal.com profile] sabrinagb, [livejournal.com profile] without_me, [livejournal.com profile] aproposofnothin, [livejournal.com profile] fergus80, [livejournal.com profile] idiosyncratic, y'all seriously ROCK!

And [livejournal.com profile] notthequiettype it was awesome to get to meet you and Crystal! I'm hoping we get more time to hang out on Tuesday. :)

Jason Manns kicked things off and he was fabulous. That boy is so freakin' adorable, and his adorableness factor only increases with his drunkenness. It seemed as if he was enjoying the hell out of his birthday.

Steve Carlson and band were up next. I'm not sure how they managed on a performance area literally the size a rug. They were like a precariously balanced pile of Jenga blocks; if any of them moved wrong I was sure they'd be going down in a messy but probably amusing pile. But manage they did and they ROCKED IT!!! I love hearing Steve sing live, but even so my OMFG moments were courtesy of the other Steve. I was so fucking blown away by Steve Dress on the stand-up bass!!! Jeezus, the way he plays that thing is just magical! The entire set was fantastic and there was much singing along and dancing and generally having a fantastic time on our part.

Corey Pearson also played. The poor boy seems sweet and probably quite talented, but he really needs to learn to enunciate. This is the second time I've heard him and I still haven't made out any lyrics other than the word "frolic."

The Drunken Rock Star Karoake Hour was quite possibly the BEST. THING. EVAR. Steve's imitation of Eddie Vedder doing Yellow Ledbetter was the most fantastically hilarious thing I've heard in a long time!

In all, the night was FANTASTIC!!! If it didn't mean taking another bar exam *shudder* I'd be seriously considering moving to L.A. right now. 'Cause these kinds of good times need to be had as often as possible.
This time it is all [livejournal.com profile] technosage's fault. After learning that Steve is playing at Hotel Cafe on Tuesday, we've decided to stay in L.A. through Wednesday and catch both shows. *facepalm* I know!!! We've obviously lost all reason.

We are justifying our insanity by telling ourselves that we'll be taking our work and laptops with us and making it more of a "working holiday." I'm not sure how well that plan is going to work, exactly. But by some miraculous alignment of the stars, I don't have to be in court all all next week, so I figure I might as well take advantage of the time and enjoy a few extra days in L.A.

As further evidence of our insanity (as if that hasn't already been established beyond all doubt), airline tickets for Dallas on October 5th have also been purchased. [livejournal.com profile] annkiri, [livejournal.com profile] wrenlet, and [livejournal.com profile] wendy we'll see you in about two weeks! OMGYAY!!! \o/

So, yes. Allie and I are completely fucking insane! I think we're making our peace with this though.

\o/

Sep. 18th, 2007 06:29 pm
I'd like to say that this insanity is all [livejournal.com profile] technosage's fault, but I'd be lying. I completely encouraged and perhaps even enabled the craziness.

Steve Carlson announced some shows today, and within hours, certainly before either of us could inject any degree of reasonableness to our plans, Allie and I had made all the necessary arrangements to go to L.A. this weekend and to Nashville the day after WinCon to see him play. *facepalm*

So, yes, L.A. flisters, Steve, Jason, and Corey are all reprising the fun at L'Scorpion this Sunday. Tell me y'all will be there! \o/

Also, Nashville on October 15th. Anyone?

He's also announced a Dallas show on October 5th. I'm still thinking about that one, but if anyone in the DFW area wants to talk me into it, it probably won't be that hard to do. *g*

See? I told you this was CRAZY. But, seriously. Impromptu road trips! Nashville! Allie!!! Steve!!! Fantastic music!!! Tons o' alcohol!!! How can this be anything but Great Fun?!?! \o/
