Tonight, Austin. Tomorrow, L.A.
Oct. 11th, 2007 12:54 amSo, apparently all I need as incentive to be amazingly productive is Steve. *g* Because I got SO much work done yesterday. Er, maybe that was Tuesday. Whatever. That fuckton of work I had to do? Done.
Which meant that I did in fact hop a plane this morning -- yesterday morning -- to Austin where I spent a lovely afternoon hanging out with
annkiri. We had a great dinner and then headed to a strange little place called The Blind Pig where both Steve and Alligator Dave from the other night were playing. Alas, Alligator Dave was there sans Hot Drummer Guy. *sadface* But he was still freakin' hilarious. I think we're gonna keep him. *g*
Steve went on next. It was definitely a different vibe than Dallas. It was obvious that very few people were there specifically to see either of the performers, and Steve looked considerably less at ease. Still, it was a good show. He did far more covers than he normally does, several of which I hadn't heard him do before -- Nina Simone's "Turn Me On" and U2's "Running to Stand Still" are the two I'm remembering right now. Both of which he sounded amazing on. I think he was doing more covers because there were so few people there that new his music -- he kept saying stuff like "no one wants to hear original stuff." Silly boy. Anyway. Good show.
Afterward we were chatting a bit because
annkiri wanted to buy some CDs. While we were standing in front of the stage talking to him, some idiot Drunk!Dude went up on stage, grabbed his guitar, and started messing with it. We were outraged for him and he didn't quite seem to know what to do until both me and this other guy sort of spoke up and told Drunk!Dude to put the damn thing down, which is when Steve went up and rescued his guitar. Thankfully, Drunk!Dude's girlfriend showed up about then and took him away. But, seriously? Who does that? Just go on stage and start fiddling with someone's guitar? *shakes head*
Ok. That was more of a tangent than I had planned. I'm obviously tired. The point here was that Steve, as always, gave an awesome performance. And that some people are too dumb to live.
But, yes, tired. That's me. It's 3:15 a.m. and I have to be heading to the airport in about 3 hours in order to catch a flight to Phoenix, where I'll go home, switch bags, and head back to the airport to fly to L.A. *groans*
But then? WinCon!!!! Tomorrow afternoon I shall be arriving in L.A. ready to meet other fannish folk, squee together, get blindingly drunk, embarrass myself at karaoke, distribute and receive many hugs, and generally have a fabulous time!!! \o/
