Good times!

I've been buried in work since I got back from vacation, but it IS Friday and last weekend was KICK AWESOME, so I'm calling it a win!
Let's see if I can manage the Cliff Notes version of vacay:
:: Friday I drove to California, dropped my mom and grandmother in Anaheim for their Disneyland weekend, and headed up to L.A. where I met up with
azewewish,
sabrinagb,
editorzon, and
coolwhipdiva for yummy drinks and a late dinner at Cafe Was. Cool place. Awesome company!
:: Saturday
azewewish and I had VIP tickets to see Down. The VIP package included admittance for soundcheck and a pre-show meet and greet. Let me just say that this whole thing ROCKED SO HARD and Brenda is amazing beyond words for getting me such an awesome experience for my birthday!!! There were about 50 of us who had the VIP tickets, so it was a small group. Phil was chatty and in such a good mood. And, as is to be expected, looking hot as hell! Seriously, man, that boy is doing something right, because he just gets hotter every time! *bites lip* And Pepper fuckin' Keenan! Pepper came down off the stage with his guitar and literally did the entire sound check standing right next to me!!! *flail* It was crazy!
The meet and greet was HILARIOUS! Phil's good mood continued. He was chatty as hell. The guys were being huge goof balls, alternately making jazz hands and obscene gestures to the camera. When I got up there, I said hi and got a hug from all of them. Then I told them "hey guys, it's my birthday so I'm expecting y'all to kick some ass." What Phil and Pepper obviously heard, though, was an invitation to KISS MY ASS, because a prolonged and absolutely hilarious discussion over who got to kiss my ass ensued. *laughs* Pepper bodily turned me around so that Kirk could go at it, while Phil grabbed me around the shoulders and started singing "today is my birthday..." Phil was inordinately pleased that he was my birthday present. *g* The whole exchange was hilarious and I was laughing so hard in these pictures!

The concert itself ROCKED! The opening bands were unusually good. The Melvins, especially, rocked the hell out of that place. I don't think I've ever heard a group who knew how to control and ride the energy of live music the way they did. This is probably odd, but the whole time I was listening to them I kept thinking what a kick
artemis112 would get out of them and the parallels to really effective ecstatic ritual. Other than being too short, Down's set was, as usual, on fire! I think we've been forever spoiled by the solid 2 1/2 hour show they played last on their last tour, so a regular set seemed too short. But, they did play New Orleans is a Dying Whore, which was awesome, and they did Lifer, Bury Me in Smoke, Temptations Wings, and Ghosts of Mississippi -- probably the only song that I really missed was On March The Saints.
The whole thing was GOOD TIMES, man. Just damn good times.
:: Sunday
azewewish,
editorzon,
coolwhipdiva,
aproposofnothin,
hollywoodsmile and I had brunch at The Abbey, where we enjoyed yummy drinks and even yummier eye candy! Seriously, that bartender was undoubtedly one of the hottest men in WeHo. Hot damn that boy was pretty! The Abbey was sadly lacking in go-go boys on a Sunday morning, but it was otherwise a damn fine time with damn fine company!
After brunch, the lovely
editorzon and I headed to Culver City for massages! Several mojitos with brunch combined with a seriously amazing massage and I was a big pile of utterly relaxed goo! Mmmm...bliss.
:: On Monday I was down in San Diego where
_lisalisa_ and I got together for margaritas and several hours of chit chat and hanging out time. It was lovely!
:: On Tuesday, my mom, grandmother and I did the touristy thing around San Diego. Of note, my grandmother drove me only marginally crazy -- I made sure to apply alcohol liberally to the family-time, and it helped. Although, I'm pretty sure she drove my mom right over the edge -- on Sunday my mom was lamenting the fact that two days with my grandmother at Disneyland had sucked the magic right out of the Magic Kingdom for her! So sad!
In all it was a good time. Thank you, chicas, for an awesome birthday weekend! *mwah*
