Before I get to today's happy germs list, allow me a moment or two to bitch about home ownership. So, last month, after about six months of fighting with the insurance company, to no avail, I had to take out a loan to rebuild the wall in my back yard. It was an old wall, built back in the early 70s, that was bound to crumble eventually. But back in early summer some vandals kicked several huge holes in it, thereby accelerating the crumbling process. Even though the wall could not be repaired and needed to be replaced, the insurance company would only cover about 10% of the cost. So I had no choice but to go in to debt for the other 10 grand in order to get my yard walled again.

But, wait. That's just Act I of this home ownership rant. Act II involves the Heater/AC unit. While we don't have much of a winter, it has been getting cold enough in the mornings for us to flip on the heater in order to warm up the house a bit while we're showering and getting ready. Well, we noticed that the heater was making a strange noise. And by strange noise I mean something slightly less loud than a 747 taking off from our roof. We thought it prudent to call in someone to do some regular maintenance on the unit. Well, it turns out that the sound of planes taking off when in fact there are no aircraft around is BAD. Not just bad, but very, very bad. The unit, in a word, is dead. Not only that, but the Nice Mr. Repairman informs us that we are damn lucky that we did not set our home on fire, as we've apparently been running it for over two weeks with a completely blown compressor and frozen coils and the entire thing has been heating up to self-combusting levels. *facepalm* So, bottom line, is that we need a new unit and that means another $10,000 of debt. I am not pleased. *grumblebitchcomplain*

So, now that I've got that off my chest, let's move on to the HAPPY, shall we?

:: Despite the above two act rant and the recent dizzying plunge in to an additional $20,000 of debt, I am damn lucky to have my home, to have an affordable mortgage at a very good interest rate, to have plans and projects in mind to improve it and change it, and to know that it will be paid off in less than 9 years. There are, sadly, millions in this country right now who are not so lucky.

:: Starbucks Peppermint Mocha Twists continue to be Christmas-y Deliciousness in a Cup!!! Mmmm...so good! Although, I'm not sure why we need the "twist" in the name. Didn't it used to be just a "peppermint mocha"? *confused*

:: Fuzzy socks!!! They are doing a good job keeping my toes toasty and happy! :)

:: I got my free Obama "Yes We Did" bumper sticker in the mail yesterday, which reminded me that, yes, we indeed did!!! \o/ For those of us counting, only 40 more days. Yay!
