A friend from the Path, Carolan, told us about her friend and fellow-writer, Lisa, who went to Houma, Louisiana within days of the Hurricane to help with the relief effort. At first, Lisa's focus was on helping the members of the Romance Writers of America impacted by the storm; but she soon expanded the scope of her efforts to anyone that she could help.

One of the particular needs that Lisa encountered almost immediately was the need for plus-sized clothing, both women's and men's. So, Carolan posted that information on the Weight Watchers message boards. Makes sense, right? Who's gonna have the plus sized clothes to donate if not those on Weight Watchers? She had a great response, too. Many have sent clothes; others have donated money for plus-size clothes. Yesterday, however, the powers that be at Weight Watchers pulled all of Carolan's posts about the need for plus size clothes. WTF??? It's a public message board for gods sakes. Of all the stupid shit that's posted on those boards, WW decides to pull these posts? Fuck Weight Watchers.

But more importantly, if you want to donate, you can send your donations here:

Bent Pages Bookstore

You can check out Lisa's web journal, click on the "journey here" link, for more information about other supplies that she needs.

Also, as it seems obvious that the greatest help is still coming from grass-roots efforts, pass the word along.
