For the real world just don't feel right

There are things in this life that I just don't understand. Like why my Blackberry is only delivering messages every couple of hours so that they all arrive in large, overwhelming clumps of things I need to give my attention to? And why, even though I've been sitting in front of my computer for hours, I still haven't managed to get a single item crossed off my to-do list today? And why haven't I won the lottery so that I can have several thousand dollars of immediately available disposable income to buy Diamondbacks season tickets?

But topping my list of things that I just don't understand today: why does fandom continue to be so fucking crazy??? Newsflash fandom: (1) he's really not fucking his male costar anywhere but in our collective fantasies; and (2) the likelihood of him fucking YOU anywhere but in YOUR imagination is even slimmer than #1 actually becoming a reality and there being a sex tape to prove it. So, given #1 and #2 but most especially #2, who he's actually dating is none of your damn business. Continued expressions of dismay and, even more disturbing, hate for him and/or her only go to prove your idiocy and inability to take a firm grasp on reality. My suggestion? Get a damn life! (This rant is courtesy of me apparently seeing one too many "I hate her" or "I'm so mad at him" posts on my flist, with apologies to the non-crazy portion of fandom.)

Ok. Moving on. Despite all the things that boggle my mind today, there are also very good things that fill me with joy. For example, I had a damn good workout with the new trainer this afternoon. He's definitely a keeper. Plus, his rates are super reasonable! After the chaos of the holidays and losing the previous trainer, I'm finally feeling positively about getting back to a regular workout routine! \o/

Also, I have two whole weeks of time blocked out next month!!! I don't know what I'll be doing with all that free time, but I'm really looking forward to it! Any ideas about what to do with two whole weeks of vacation time???

What? What?

You mean they're really not shagging?????????

Oh you've totally ruined my entire life!!!!!

and this is just a few days into hiatus, can you imagine the crazy cakes that're gonna get bakes between now and march?

[identity profile] moonmelody.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes I know. Reality is harsh and heartless thing.

*shudder*

[identity profile] wendy.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Jess, I had to unfriend someone because she kept bashing on Jared for dating Gen. Like, in multiple posts! I mean full on "I have lost all respect for him," etc. I was like..."SIGH I CANNOT DEAL WITH YOU ANYMORE."

You should visit Texas. Yes, AGAIN! *grin*

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Like, seriously, for real, people are pissed about this????? Because it DIRECTLY CONCERNS THEM WHERE HE STICKS HIS PENIS.

*sighs* Oh, fandom entitlement, let me buy you a clue...

[identity profile] wendy.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's entitlement. I think mostly it's people being confused about how Gen and Ruby actually AREN'T the same person. Who knew!

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
*GASP* You mean, they're NOT????? Oh, the horror.

[identity profile] moonmelody.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently, so I'm being informed, where he sticks his penis (or who he has "off-screen chemistry" with) has some bearing on the show, and therefore fans are entitled to express their displeasure. *boggles* Yeah, I have no idea.

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, people can like or dislike whatever they want for whatever reason they want. However, I think the sane of us are entitled to tell these people that their insane reasoning is, well, IN-FUCKING-SANE. That's like telling some total stranger that they need to get laid so they'll be more productive at work.

[identity profile] moonmelody.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I keep seeing these posts and thinking, this is a joke, right? You mistakenly believe you're being funny and you will stop soon. But, NO. The insanity continues and I just don't understand!!!

Texas!!! *tempted* (But part of that time out WILL be with my Texas Girls in L.A.!!!)

[identity profile] wendy.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
YAY yaaaay! We are so looking forward to seeing you guys! LA! Come to me!!

[identity profile] idiosyncratic.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Do I dare presume that #1 and #2 are prompted by the fucktards gnashing their teeth and beating their breasts over the news that Paddywhack is dating Genevieve? If so, A-FREAKING-MEN. I've been waiting for the backlash over that news, and I'm surprised it's taken this long.

[identity profile] moonmelody.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
You presume correctly and I hit my wall of tolerance for fucking crazycakes. Make it stop, Jo!

[identity profile] idiosyncratic.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I still maintain that the Lotrips fandom was, by far, the batshit craziest, but SPN fandom? Hands down win for 1) sheer amount of wank and 2) overwhelming sense of entitlement.

Just makes me glad that I seem to have kept (or removed) the major crazies from my flist. *snugs*

[identity profile] drkgoddess.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto on the BlackBerry - my gmail on the phone keeps getting messages way before the BlackBerry itself gets them. Has been happening since sometime this afternoon. I hope it remedies itself soon!

[identity profile] moonmelody.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It was highly annoying. Today it seems to be behaving though. *fingers crossed*

[identity profile] ladymairwen.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Any ideas about what to do with two whole weeks of vacation time???

Visit Portland. :-)

[identity profile] moonmelody.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be awesome. Sadly I think finances are going to keep me a little bit closer to home. :(

But Portland will have to happen sometime soon!

[identity profile] ladymairwen.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear ya.

Absolutely soon!!!!

So the whole J2 offscreen chemistry that pretty much drove fandom for the first two years had no bearing or reflection on the show?

Because I don't see Jared/Cortese as being all that different of a situation. *shrugs* It's gotta have -some- affect on the show and thus fandom.

[identity profile] moonmelody.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're saying that all the Jared/Gen hate is because fandom doesn't like Ruby??? Or doesn't like the Ruby/Sam arc???

See, I just don't get this. All these actors owe us, as their fans, is a good show. If I'm displeased with their professional product, I quit watching it. How does having issues with a character or with an aspect of the story arc translate into full license to proclaim my opinion about their personal lives?

I think a lot of it is, yeah. Or they like Sandy better. It's feelings and emotions, it's not logic.

I just don't get this. All these actors owe us, as their fans, is a good show

Then why have conventions? Why go on talkshows? Why stand around on red carpets for people to take pictures? Part of the business of Hollywood is selling charisma and personality and good looks. Can you really tell me that knowing for a fact Jared and Gen were screwing at the time would have no affect on you rewatching their sex scene in 4.09? You would not have one single passing thought about their personal lives?

[identity profile] moonmelody.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Then why have conventions? Why go on talkshows? Why stand around on red carpets for people to take pictures?

The difference, as I see it, is that all of these things are aimed at increasing exposure to and commercial support for their professional product, be it a t.v. show or a movie or a sport. Who they are or aren't dating has NOTHING to do with their professional output.

And if I'm thinking about the actors personal lives when watching that scene or any other scene, then someone (be it the actors or the writers) is not doing their job correctly because if they are then all I see on screen are Sam and Ruby.

I don't know. I mean Jared has never drawn a line between his real life and professional life before. He kinda set a precedent with Sandy-- making his girlfriend part of his professional life: bringing her to all the red-carpet events with the attendant paparazzi pictures, her showing up as a convention guest a couple of times, she's at those promotional gift bag events, even to guest-starring on his show. To suddenly turn around and call the fans out for not separating his personal and professional lives seems a little bit disingenuous when he's still dating a co-star. She's still a part of his professional life, you know?

But as with Brenda, I think we need to agree to disagree.

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)

Actually (and no real surprise, I'm sure *g*), I have to disagree with this. Jared & Jensen's off-screen chemistry has nothing to do with the show. It's only their onscreen chemistry that matters & how that drives the show. They could have hated each other to death in RL for all we knew - the important thing was that we believed their acting & that these two men WERE brothers onscreen.

That they hang out RL is the bonus on the cherry for people who like to think that sets are one great big lovefest & that everyone should get along. But that's not why most of us watched the show.

[personal profile] stormcloude 2009-02-11 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
But you went to Paley. And you're going to see Misha at a con. Why do that if all that matters is what's onscreen?

And I'm not solely talking about SPN fandom. There's also RPS fandom. I just think it's naive to believe that what happens in their personal lives will have no affect on fandom. Every time Jared and Jensen appear together fandom explodes with fic. Look at all the stories and art just from finding out they were roommates-- or the Red Bull event. (And I get that that's not -your- fandom, but the points still apply to whomever you're shippng-- look at the photos you post of your favorite football players slapping asses and the conclusions drawn from that.)

I'm not making a judgment call on whether it's right or not. I'm just surprised you guys find it so unexpected and rage-inducing.

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I went to Paley because I wanted to hear more about the show from the creative team, not because I gave a shit that Jared & Jensen use the same trailer. I'm going to see Misha at the SPN con because he seems like a cool cat & I dig his acting, not because I care what he thinks of who Jensen & Jared are dating.

I like the creative process. When I interview people, I want to know what the talent thinks of the characters, the writing, the process, the WORK. I don't care who they're dating or where they go to buy coffee or who they're BFFs with.

That's why I have an imagination.

Yes, I absolutely squee over pics of 'my' guys (and gals) hanging out with each other, because it's fun & squeeing over fun things is all part of being a fan. But I'm not entitled to these pics, nor do I go off on rants if I don't get the pics I want or the soundbytes I want or if my (insert favorite actor of choice) doesn't squee over (insert co-star of choice) the way I want them to.

I write RPS because it's fun to imagine, not because I want it to happen in real life. Because, frankly, I don't CARE. It has no bearing on why I like (insert favorite actor/athlete/musician of choice) or what brought me to them in the first place. In the RPS side of fandom, we use the small bits we get & imagine things. But, man, I can do that without seeing the pics - I mean, let's take SPN, for example. Jared & Chad haven't been seen together in a public setting for years, but people still write them. Even though one of them is engaged & the other is dating someone else. Jensen's been dating Danneel for, God, I don't even know how long, Sandy & Jared were engaged, but the fandom is still exploding with Jared/Jensen fics. And were long before anyone found out that they share digs in Vancouver.

Karl Urban is married with children. Orlando Bloom has been in a long-time relationship with someone. Sean Bean is also married. These facts have ZERO basis in my written sexual fantasies about them. Because it doesn't matter. Their real lives have nothing to do with me or what I write.

Dude, you can hate who you want, when you want, how you want. Doesn't mean I don't like you or respect you less as a person. That's your right & you're welcome to it. Just as Jess & I are welcome to say, hey, take a step back, because these peoples' personal lives have zero bearing on why you started getting into their shows/music/movies/teams in the first place. Or, at the least, it shouldn't be.

[personal profile] stormcloude 2009-02-11 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
because he seems like a cool cat

But would you think he was a cool cat if he was dating insert-your-most-despised-person-here? Or would that affect what you think of him and whether you wanted to see more of him or not?

And I know you've complained about how small the Jared/Chad segement of fandom is. Don't you think there would be a whole lot more going on and more activity if they -did- start showing up places together? Don't you think that would have an affect on the fandom?

I just don't think you can completely divorce real life from fandom. You apparently disagree. :)

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, no, not really. I despise Kirsten Dunst as an actress to the nth degree, but it never affected how I viewed Jake Gyllenhaal when they were dating.

I mean, I get that some people feel that way, I just don't care myself. I don't like Jake's films because of who he's dating or not dating, that's not why I got into him as an actor.

It's sort of like the recent kerfluffle with Bale. What happened on that set was NONE of my business, and I don't care who yelled at who & for what reason. Will I go stop seeing films that Christian is in just because he was a dick in RL to some guy I don't even know? Nope, because that's confusing his characters with how he is & I don't have to live with the guy, so I don't care.

I'm totally not telling you personally how to feel, you know that. Just that I see it (apparently) completely different. :)
